Hii, any recommendation for proposal ring with a budget of 2-3k?

You can pop by JP for a diamond education first then see what they can offer you to get a rough gauge. Then view ideal diamonds from HOH side to get bang for your buck. Or you can visit retail stores first but do ask what's amiss especially if they give u a relatively big carat weight.

I heard from my SO's friend that diamond wholesalers can sell cheaper than JP but ever since she heard we already paid for deposit, she didn't want to share her contact. She just wants us to be happy with our purchase and not end up going to that diamond wholesaler and regretting our decision lol.

All these so called diamond wholesaler are getting the online inventory list similar as the rest of the dealers, just that they mark up lesser, u can cross reference the GIA number of the selected diamond with various dealer, you see who willing to earn lesser and there you go and u get the cheapest haha :) As far as i've seen, so far JP willing to go lower than the rest for such diamonds, probably because they have a very low operating cost as compared to other shops. No harm asking and trying out.

I think my SO was saying that the friend said that these wholesalers supply diamonds to the retail stores, and even private jewellers? A bit risky though if the stocks are online cuz can't see the physical diamond and judge with the eyes.

Actually.. I'm quite envious of those who manage to search through many stores. But too bad my SO was just really sian keep looking at diamonds and hearing salespersons only talk about the cert, "perfectly cut" diamond (like every store also say their diamonds are perfect lol) but JP really backed up with education, scopes and good service so he settled. Happy/sad moment for me haha.

Would love to hear stories from those who visit many stores and share experiences please!!

How come it’s a happy/sad moment for you?? You didn’t like the diamond he settled for?

I have a friend also bought his diamond from this kind of wholesalers.
1.09Ct, G, VS1 @ 10K+. No GST charges
But the seller didn't provide him any scope at all.
I asked him then how he knows that this diamond shines? He said the dealer will do the job, there is no need for the buyer to go through the trouble. I asked him if he check the ASET, my friend doesn't even know whats that.

When I talked about light performance, he talked about color. Lol.

I can't remember the shop name, I think its called venus something (not venus tears)

No no don't get me wrong. I'm happy with the diamond (give me time to request for scope images)!

I just envisioned us to go to MANY stores to compare diamond specs and prices. Going to tiff&co and cartier was just to make me happy as I knew we would never buy our rings from there but I still wanted the feeling of entering the shops haha. These kinda shops can only get you half carat for $10k and low 0.7 for $15k. F/G VS1/VS2 kind. And they don't tell you anything else other than their diamonds are carefully cut and selected. I just remember tiff&co lightings are blinding. And their patented designs which I'm not a fan of xD

Then we went love&co. They only have H&A scope but we could only view from the top but even then their arrows weren't quite distinct. I like their ring designs though! But diamond more important at this stage heh.

Then it was JP. I was considering between heart shape, cushion brellia, super ideal cut and octagon cut. In the end didn't choose any of those because heart shape no bling (still dam sad omg). For cushion brellia, most of the carat weight goes to its depth so it actually looks smaller than a round of the same carat weight. Octagon cut looks like a round at an arm's length away (for carat weights below 1 at least) but costs a premium, felt not worth to spend on it. Didn't get a super ideal cut because they had an awesome 0.72 carat weight ideal cut which falls within budget :D This was after much effort from Ranjit at entertaining us and amazingly he could tell it was a good diamond before checking with scopes :)

Anyway now I'm sad because my diamond search journey was so short.. So short that I'm still searching for reviews of other shops lol I mean, I know I can trust JP/HOH since my diamond from HOH side, but I guess I still need to feed my curiosity haha.

This is as good as buying blindly :/ his budget so high.. He could have gotten a better cut though smaller carat weight but cuz of bling will look bigger. Maybe he just wanted to cross that 1 carat weight mark hahaha

Anyone bought from venus tears? I like their ring designs but SO found them too fanciful to even consider lol

Oh i see.. for me i went to lots of stores b4 i finally settled on 1. if u’ve this kind of feeling, does that mean that the one u eventually picked out isn’t something that blew u away and u didn’t feel this was “the one”? That’s why u’re curious to see if there’s anything more suitable out there?

For me I knew it was what I wanted and was happy that the search ended and till now still happy whenever I wear mine out :)

I find their wedding band quite nice. haha

Since engagement ring will settle at JP (as diamond is the focus), will consider either Cartier, Love&co or Venus tears for the wedding band (which focus on the design).

Well the thing is my SO and I still have lots of time before he decides to even propose to me (about 1.5 years) so I really wanted to search many stores before we settled. And I really wondered if there are other stores that allow to view through ASET scope or take the diamond out of store to view. But that day he was really determined on that diamond because well my fault la kept telling him such a good diamond if don't reserve later other people take. And he himself felt such a chore to go through many stores when JP was recommended via the forums and we haven't heard of other stores that allow as mentioned above. So yes, settled! Lol.. But yeah, I still wanna know if there are other stores????? >.<

That day we went cartier also viewed wedding bands haha! Around $6k a pair, more if there are more smaller diamonds. Read blogs that love&co quite expensive but designs nice, not sure myself cuz didn't see. Heard that for venus tears, price of gold and platinum not much diff, probably $3k a pair. Do share any info when u are done searching! :D

If ur main concern is the scope images, then JP probably the best place already.. i didn’t care much about scope images and when i look at the diamond will always request to view it under normal lighting (all stores were ok for me to bring out of the shop to look). as long as it sparkles well at all angle under normal lighting i’m fine with it. or can always buy scopes online & bring with u to stores

have u paid the deposit yet? still got time to look around? if not in a hurry can always slowly look ard, don’t rush and regret..

Paid deposit le haha. I also wanna slowly look around but my SO not inclined to, especially after we've spotted that high light performing ideal diamond.

You can always request JP to search for u a cheaper less-than-ideal diamond if u wish, it will still probably cheaper than other shops.

I think most people has the misunderstanding that JP only sells high quality diamond. They do have access to the same world wide diamond database that whole-sellers has access to and able to offer those diamonds too, just that your invoice entity might be coming from House of Hung instead of JP.

Is it because you would like something bigger? If that's the case you and your partner can save up more and up the budget :) I think it will be worth it as long as you are happy with the diamond you eventually get!

Anyone bought ideal diamonds from HOH?

Pls correct me if I'm wrong but their Ideal diamonds are still very good performing diamonds with the naked eye right?
If naked eye can tell diff, is it to trained eyes? Or very obvious when compared side by side?
If naked eye can't tell the diff, how to justify the price difference?

Personally trying to decide if the premium for a SIC is worth it... Didn't get the chance to compare Ideal diamond when I dropped by recently
