Hi guys, I'm here again but this time is to mark, well, the end of my wait 😂

We just collected our ring from HOH! My grey diamond (from James Allen) has been mounted onto an 18k rose gold rope twist band. We are totally in love and it does look super unique. Special shout out to HOH for their wonderful service!

Not sure if it's ever going to become 1080p lol... and I'm sorry for the vainy posing but I can't help it 🤣

May I ask how thick is the ring?

Thank you 😊 I also had my fair share of explaining to friends/family over ordering a grey diamond online, everyone felt it was a huge risk 😂 Luckily still ok in the end!

Hi, I didn't check because I tried this design at HOH and requested the exact same design as I felt the thickness is just nice already (looks nice with another diamond band matched too). I think you can check with JP/HOH, they will definitely know :)

Personally people would avoid flat carat weights for after polishing the carat weight may one day drop into the lower tier of pricing for the diamond.. But I guess this probably only applies if you're thinking of exchanging your diamond for cash or reselling it.

VS2 diamonds may have durability issue or may look milky/hazy.. Not sure if you've checked for those..

With a very good cut the diamond may not shine as brightly..

Hmm I suppose if price and carat weight was your determining factor then I guess the price was okay.

In any case, it has been bought already so just enjoy it :)

I have been reading up on this thread for the past couple of months, and got really interested into getting my proposal ring for my partner from Jann Paul after reading up the reviews about them.

Actually, I am only intending to propose to her late next year, but I cannot stop myself from being curious about the service of Jann Paul, as well as checking out their Super Ideal Cut, Solasfera and Octagon diamonds. Hence, I finally decided to book and head down for an appointment with them over the last weekend. They were very prompt and welcoming despite informing them about my planned timeline for the proposal, and that is really appreciated.

I went down for the standard diamond education session with a friend, and we were served by Eugene. A very friendly and patient gent whom guided us through the whole session. We had actually stretched longer than that, to about 2.5 - 3 hours, as he showed us some of the diamonds I am looking for (Mainly Super Ideal Cut, Solasfera and Octagon).

After having gone through the session and looking at the diamonds in person, I personally still prefer the Solasfera, followed by Super Ideal Cut.

My planned budget for the diamond itself is about $5,500 - $6,500, excluding setting. For the diamond itself, I am looking at the below:

Carat - High 0.6x to Low 0.7x
Cut- Solasfera / Super Ideal
Colour - D / E
Clarity - VS1 -to VVS1

Some of the diamond quotes I received were as below:

Octagon D'amor:
0.647 D VVS1*
$7,100 (Inclusive of 7% GST)

0.611 E IF
$6,500 (Inclusive of 7% GST)

Solasfera:
0.65 E VS1*
$7,100 (Inclusive of 7% GST)

I had forgot to ask him for some of the Super Ideal Cut diamonds they currently have on hand for my above specifications, hence that was excluded.

Even though I am leading more towards the Solasfera, seems like if I want a high 0.6x carat, it will probably bust my budget. Nonetheless, I will still probably consider a low 0.6x Solasfera or a high 0.6x - low 0.7x Super Ideal Cut diamond when I am ready to start shortlisting the diamonds.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the service provided by Eugene, and will definitely go back to him when I am ready to start on the selection and customisation of my proposal ring for my partner.

Hi there! :) my partner also intending to propose earliest late next year or early 2020 and we have already booked our diamond lol.

I help you out a bit with the super ideal diamond.

A 0.64 G VS1 is at $5,150 so a D/E would probably cost around $6k. They did mention a high 0.6 is hard to come by.

0.72 G VS1
$6,600 (Including 7% GST)

0.72 F VS2
$6,750 (Including 7% GST)

These low 0.7 already bust your budget. I doubt they carry 0.70 as that is considered a flat carat weight. So you can only hope for a 0.71 but with a D/E VS1 I think the price would be as above, maybe slightly more expensive.

I see the octagon like good price but I feel the money not worth to spend on IF diamond.. Lower clarity can get you a higher carat weight for the same price point.

Thank you for the sharing as well! Wow, haha that is even faster than me haha. Thought I am the only gan chiong spider.

The above 0.7x carat SIC diamonds sounds good as well, though it exceeds my budget slightly. Might highly consider them. But still in a dilemma whether to go for a low 0.6x Solasfera or a low 0.7x SIC. I love the scintillation of the Solasfera, though it's 15 - 20% higher. I will probably compare them side by side when I head back the next time round.

Thanks once again!

I've been bugging my SO that's why we searched early hahaha and he placed deposit also to shut me up bah xD

I think what size u decide on highly depends on the size of your SO's finger. Mine is chubby so 0.6 looks a bit small but 0.7 looks good. My sis finger is dam slim so her 0.3 actually looks dam big hahaha my SO and I told her husband he dam lucky.

If you're comparing solasfera and SIC diamond side by side outdoor, please take a video and share! Haha thanks!!

Oh and to add on, prices now are slightly cheaper than similar specs of around 2 years ago. SO was saying it was due to usd weakening or Sgd picking up (one of it.. Or maybe something else) He suspects prices would rise soon, which was why we started hunting for diamond early.

Dug through screenshots of past posts.
2013
SIC 0.72 F VS1 / VS2 $7200
SIC 0.76 F VS2 $7600
Solasfera 0.76 F VS1 $9600

2015
SIC 0.72 G VS1 $7100

2017
SIC 0.71 G VS2 $6200
Solasfera 0.667 G VS2 $6300

To help with calculations, for every colour upgrade is about 5-8%. For clarity is about 3-5% (I think). For carat weights, within same band probably $100 difference (everything else equal). Disclaimer: I roughly assumed based on past posts.

I see, thanks for the heads up. Hmm looks tempting to start shortlisting 1/2 first and make a deposit to reserve a diamond, if there is one that catches my eye.

Do you know what's the minimum deposit amount required?

Solasfera 0.667 G VS2 $6300 - This looks pretty decent. Wouldn't mind getting a F colour and VS1 for a slight top up actually, if it is available.

And definitely, will take a video comparison outdoor when I am there again. But not sure when that will be haha.

Min deposit is 500.

U can text your salesperson and tell him your wish list. So he can proceed to help u keep a look out in their existing as well as new stocks.

Last 2wks ago, I gave my salesperson my wish list.
For e.g. 0.51 to 0.59, D/E/F, VVS2/VS1/VS2 + prefect proportion of the diamond (at least in my sense) + diamond inclusions exclude list.

With this wish list, my salesperson proceed to help me take a look out and inform me if they have such diamonds.

Within 2wks (of changing my mind few times), I finally found the diamond I like and proceed to send it for crafting.

Noted with thanks, I will drop him a text to let me know if any diamond comes in within my preferred 4Cs.

That's great to hear too, congratulations on your new ring as well!

My bf brought me along to Jannpaul to choose the diamond of my choice.

We settled on the diamond w the following specs :
Super Ideal cut 0.52 ct VS1 G.

My finger size 44.5. According to the salesperson it’s very slim so it makes the 0.52 ct looks big 🤣

We got it at $4200 including settings. He made the deposit $500 alrdy but they didn’t let me know when are they gonna get it crafted. 😂

Not sure when is he gonna pop the q though 😫

Looks good! For me, I would put S on one side, and N on the other. Just my 2c haha. May I ask how much was it for your ideal 0.72 E VS1?

Thought about it before but I worry from far will look like SON, you know? Hahaha then my SO's comments is this kind look like school days kind of couples.. For now maybe you like but years down the road later you don't like then you don't wear liao.. So I suggested to combine the 2 letters and he seems OK with it since will be symmetrical by the heart :)

The diamond cost $6200 :)
