Thanks for the feedback. I'm wondering if the JP prices are negotiable and usually by how much?

Anyone care to comment?

From what I know their prices are fixed when I bought from them. But now with the Covid going on, maybe it has changed. Best is to check with them

Congrats origiri, that looks pretty large! Simple and beautiful that looks like a big one what ct size may I ask? JP workmanship looks amazing

Its a 0.60 ct :) Thank you! Went for a plain solitaire so as to make the diamond look bigger. Indeed Master Miyabi's skills are outstanding!

Prices are fixed but JP prices are very reasonable already. Also you are getting the best cut and they have great customer service so it is worth it!

Wow. It doesn't look like a 0.6ct at all. I thought it was a 0.8-0.9ct. Nicely done!
I saw that they are live streaming Miyabi working on their youtube. Can see how precise hes workmanship is man.

What are the requirements you guys usually look for in the diamonds or set?

You should watch the videos by JannPaul on their YouTube channel. It’s very informative and a good place to start! But essentially ASET scopes are the most important as you can see how much light return the diamond has.

Thanks for this. I have actually attended their online education workshop and they have recommended one of their SIC series to me. So I'm trying to see if it is good.

I'll take some time to view the videos later. Do we have to get our own ASET scope to verify?

They will email you the ASET scopes for you to see. If you are happy with that diamond you can put down a $500 deposit to book that diamond.

Then you can either choose the setting from their existing collection or if you have a design in mind you can get them to do a mock-up for you at no extra charge
:)

Edit: that diamond you posted is 0.61ct G IF. May I know how much is this diamond? Normally one will not go for IF clarity as all diamonds from JannPaul are already filtered to be eye clean. So no point paying extra for IF clarity.

You should drop clarity and go for better colour.

Alternatively if you can wait you should wait for JannPaul new white series decagon or round 10 H&A.

They have informed me as their scoping machine is currently down, pending parts for repair thus unable to provide the scoping images for me.

What would be a fair price for this grading though?

Thanks a lot.

Hi everyone, for comparison purposes, aside from JP, are there any other recommended retailers for engagement rings that offer attractive pricing and are honest/transparent?

Thanks.

Hi Rivers,
I found that online retailers are much more affordable that traditional retailers. Earlier this year, my fiance & I compared the price points of some retailers (Blue Nile, Taka Jewellery, James Allen, Vivo, etc.). The aim of our game want the most bang for out buck.

Amongst all, we settled for this new platform called LUXIEE. They were very transparent with us throughout the whole process and we saved a lot on the diamond because their website lists diamonds that are directly from their diamond suppliers.=:p

🤦🏻 The places you mentioned are drop shipment companies (except for Taka jewellery, which is actually known for poor cuts). Are we going back in time to drop shipments? There are much better ones if you're going the online route like Black by Briangavin or ACA from Whiteflash.
There are reasons why these diamonds are in the drop shipment and why people are trying to stay away from them. All these websites with thousands of diamonds don't carry inventory and sell anything they can sell.
Most bang for the buck equates value, not lower quality.

You can find more and more websites like these popping up everyday, there was once a time Jamesallen used to list up ASET images, Hearts, etc, but they've removed them all.

Basically what seuZach_T90 said, drop ship companies prey on the uneducated to make a quick middle man buck. One of the ones you listed even prints out GIA certificate and shows the aset +hearts of a different but good diamond. How i know this? I went there before, the diamond he showed me, was listed on JamesAllen as well. JP has access to the database to all these suppliers as well, the diamond never left india when they contacted the supplier in front of me. So I was obviously shown a different diamond.

Hi seuZach_T90,
I think the concept of LUXIEE actually disrupts the diamond industry and with no overhead costs, customers like us are able to purchase diamonds for the price they are really worth and not pay a premium just because a brand name is attached to it.

I had my questions as well, before I fully commit to getting my engagement ring from LUXIEE. After explanation from LUXIEE's boss, their model is actually not like the dropshipping model you've mentioned. They are basically like a Carousell for diamonds where diamond suppliers from all over the world can list their diamonds on LUXIEE's site. So they are just a tech platform hosting the transactional activity between the diamond suppliers and us(the customers).

From a lady's experience, it was refreshing to know that I was in control of the diamond i purchased - from its depth, fluroscence, cut, clarity, carat, colour, etc and not be limited to the over-the-counter stocks.

Cheers 😊

Hello Sushilicious 👋
As mentioned to my comment to seuZach_T90. From LUXIEE's boss's explanation to my fiance and I, it's actually like a Carousell for diamonds. That's probably why your diamond was still with the Indian supplier when he called. Because the suppliers are using LUXIEE as another platform for them to list their diamonds. So in that sense, they are very different from James Allen and Blue Nile.

Just sharing what I've learned on my engagement ring hunt with my fiance. :)

Cheers!

Hi all, I would be grateful for opinions on this diamond - ASET image and GIC cert in the link below.

Context: I spoke to a jeweller (not naming names for now to prevent any bias) with the lowest specs I could tolerate: G, VS1, 1 carat. I've done a lot of reading on this thread and understand light return/ cut is still the key metric, so I've asked for that to be prioritised. I know triple excellents aren't enough but could someone advise if this can be considered even an ideal cut by HoH or other similar jeweller's standards?

Please note that this diamond is not by JP, as their diamonds are expensive for my budget. I'm fully aware its quality will not be as high as a JP diamond, and don't expect this diamond to have JP's quality, but value is most important for me and the gf at this stage - eye clean is good enough. I have a budget to meet.

My biggest dislike is that it is 1.00 carat, which I know isn't great since it is a 'magic number'. But leaving that aside, please let me know if the cut is decent enough based on the ASET scope - thanks very much all! (apologies I am a new user so can't post images/links directly)

It hits the JP magic numbers with crown n pavilion but slightly deep
Some light leakages and symmetry issues
I would say HOH has better cuts

One thing that always puzzles me.
Color is graded with the naked eye yet some people can tolerate G color

Clarity is graded by a 10x magnifying glass or loupe yet some people can only tolerate Vs1 which the eye can’t see.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, drop shippers are suffering since India's lockdown. There was a time like 5 years back where everyone was trying to meet JP's level and providing ASET images, but it back fired because it revealed too much light performance problems. Now everyone's removed the ASETs from their sites, and back to just certs.

Hiding more information and confusing customers is the way to go these days. My friend bought a lab grown thinking it was a real one, because it was never even disclosed or mentioned. Companies would never buy back or trade in lab growns back because
1. It's mostly IGI(the crappiest cert ever),
2. They know prices are going to plummet to almost costume jewelry prices, they would never tell a consumer this either. So profits is their quick driving factor... I mean.... SK and LeeHwa is on shopee now.. lol.

Anyway it's not the first time people are desperate, anyone remembers this? https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/jewel-firm-pays-for-defaming-rival-online
