Hi @noobzpro

If you're looking for lab grown, GIA doesn't talk about growth method or even report type2a/b for lab growns. But either way for lab/natural they don't talk about light performance at all so you can't see light leakages, can't see if there's any milkiness/graining/brown/green hue cause GIA doesn't show any video or photos of the diamond at all.

They only go by proportion which is honestly not enough to go about since you still need the ASET to accurately see the light performance of the diamond of the whole 57 facet (if you're looking at normal round brilliants)

here some more details of what GCAL 8x certification provides

- 360 view of your diamond

Top and Bottom view , Fire video and Scintillation video

Brilliance , Symmetry along with hearts and arrows

for a GIA certificate , i feel that not a lot of information is being revealed haha

the only shop that i know of which uses Gcal 8x certificate in SG is jp.

I feel GCAL8x is far more transparent and detailed for consumer.
The reason why you see more GIA certs than GCAL 8x reports is just cause most retailers won't want to spend that extra USD$100-150+ compared to GIA/IGI to go and certify with GCAL 8x when most of their inventory probably wont even pass Gcal 8x. From what i know its extremely difficult to get a 8x grading. GIA not stating the differences between those, would just make all of them look equally good on paper as 3 EXC, since most consumers don't know what to look out for anyways which is how most of us end up here when we deep dive into more research haha.

gcal 8x > gia anytime. Stricter on color clarity according to data compounded in pricescope. It’s extremely difficult to make the 8x cut grade as well. Too much requirements. You’re pretty much guaranteed the best cut possible. Also gia paper tells u nothing about the diamond at all

Hi Senpais , i went down to JP a few days ago and initially was looking at just round diamonds.
My SA showed me their white series diamonds , one of them is Decagon, and also a new cutting style called Octagon Nova.

Has anyone seen it before? I don’t see anybody mentioning it here but they told me it was only launched last week. My SA did a video of it to show me, should I go for Decagon or the Octagon nova?

My SO told me to get something unique for her, i think this is something i never seen before and pricing i was told the same eh . I’m leaning more towards the Octagon Nova if you ask me haha

thanks for the video. Seems like I need to have another look at the octagon nova at my next appointment. I went down on Sunday and at first glance, was not a fan of the octagon nova due to its more pointy edges compared to decagon. from the video here, I see that it gives out a lot of small flashes and look more busy compared to H&A, which some people may or may not prefer.

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if anyone has bought from Ritani (US website) and had loose diamonds shipped to Singapore. If anyone has done it please let me know! Thank you!

octagon nova is new? I been following Paul’s insta I haven’t seen an update on it, that looks crazy beautiful love the large and small flashes. Decagon still looks like the H&A king though

Eh bro I think that's what I just saw with my friend yesterday sia but they mention is currently on hold for someone! JP's decagon is the best of the best liao. Their filtration is pretty strict so not much difference from other decagon actually. My wife also tagged along yest, last time no decagon when I buy, only sic. Now my wife see already want upgrade to decagon cutting 😵💫. Die liao. I think if you like the decagon just go for it man I'm sure your girlfriend wouldn't mind having the best if it fits in your budget one la 😂

I have recently been introduced to a freelance jeweller as I’m looking at buying an engagement ring. The freelancer doesn’t have a physical shop. We met up at a cafe. She sounded quite knowledgeable and helpful, and she claim her prices are slightly lower than branded places like JP as she doesn’t have a physical shop. I’m not sure how she sourced her inventory but it seems she does have genuine clients. Does anyone have any experience buying rings from freelancers? Are there things I should watch out for that established places like JP can offer better than these freelancers? Is it better to pay more and buy from brands like JP, or is it actually the same buying from these freelancers?

jp cuts are designed and cut to the highest light performance possible. If you’re talking about their white series then they perform in all lighting conditions and don’t go dark when tilted. If u compare prices the premium comes from the extra weight loss and expense on the master cutter to achieve that level of brilliance. If it’s a freelancer then they’re likely to just get from a middle man, jp grows and cuts their own. The end product and after service would be sub par too. 1. Jp knows their cuts the best, their inhouse master setter is one of the best I’ve ever seen he streams everyday on YouTube, level of precision u won’t get from a freelancer cause they’re going to get the diamond and ring set from some local goldsmith. There’s gonna be risk of diamond chipping/slanted/ chipping / unsecured. Resizing etc and plating thereafter is also something to consider cause jp does it free for their pre existing clients. In a nutshell, she can’t provide the same patented cuts jp does, nor level of quality of final product or after service. There’s always a middle man fee. If we taking about the quality of the rough, be it natural or lab grown experts on pricescope swear by jp.( and their standards there are already very high) Even those in the trade like Garry who invented the aset or Jonathan from gog complimented on jp’s quality so theres a lot of things to look out for than just “jp has a shop”

Appreciate any thoughts on these two JP decagons. Originally wanted a 0.55-0.59 F/G VVS2, however there’s no available stocks and was offered these two pieces:

0.6, G, VVS1
0.56, D, VVS2

The price quoted for the 0.56 is abt $700-$800 cheaper. I am leaning towards the 0.56 for now as it appears “whiter” though smaller but will like a second opinion on this.

Does anyone know what happened to the Round 10? I got that a few years ago and just realised it's been discontinued or replaced by the Round 8.

If you're happy with the size, go for the smaller one.

Hello. Appreciate if any experts out there can share their review on this diamond whether it is really good, white, bright etc as the specs suggest? Many thanks in advance!

1.2, D, IF
wow. D color and internally flawless and certified by Gcal.
with 8 excellent grading.
this is like the very high grading already
The fire is all around the diamond, much more sparkly than a round brilliant diamond

0.56ct dimension is 5.34 x 5.08mm
0.60ct dimension is 5.46 x 5.19mm

Usually when its set into the ring, the difference isn't that huge between this 2 diamond.
if that helps you to save $700 - $800, you should go for the 0.56ct .

JP has told me that they don't have stocks for certain sizes and that it will take a few months to lab-grow them. They also mentioned to me that since it is lab-grown, the level of brilliance, brightness, and others are not guaranteed. It will all depend on how the diamond is eventually grown in the lab, and however it turns out to be, that's the diamond I'm getting. Does this mean that if I'm not getting something they have in stock, I run the same risk of diamond chipping/slanted/brightness performance, light leakage, etc. that I might have elsewhere?
