Many thanks all for the life-saving advice. Will check out Leopold as that ticks the checkbox for me. Q5 is out as I require multi-device BT support. Was looking at the Filco Majestouch Convertible 2 but it's quite a dated design (with BT 3.0), so the Leopold looks better.

Separately, how would you rate the difference between Brown and Red switches? Know that Browns have a hump but wonder if that's discerning in real life.
I managed to get hold of a used Filco Majestouch Convertible 2 keyboard. The interesting thing is that both keyboards (while using MX Browns) have a different feel. The second-hand keyboard has more stiff /scratchy keys, with a more prominent tactile bump. It's irking me and I can't unfeel the keys..

Contemplating of brush-lubing the switches while leaving it soldered. Did some research and appreciate some feedback:

- Tribosys™ 3203 would be preferred, is that correct? Only apply a thin film.
- I am planning to brush lube only the side stem rails, and potentially the lower side of the switch. For tactile switches, the upper side (where the metal leaf and legs are) should be avoided.
If your computer is near to your keyboard, BT3 is fine for general office use. Filco is perhaps amongst the laziest brands to update their keyboards but the built quality is amongst the best.

You can try xtremesolutions to try out the different switches. It boils down to personal experience and preference. Generally typists prefer a more tactile feel although that doesnt mean that they dont switch to linear too in the end.

If you're into lubing and hands-on experience, you can try exploring custom made keyboards and just buy parts from aliexpress. With the right parts, you can make a Filco-like keyboard or even better.

Finally, all the parts were delivered for my first custom, lubing the switches and stabs makes a lot of difference.
  1. Feker IK75 - stock everything, swapped the included polycarbonate plate
  2. Switches: Feker panda + Bobagum
  3. PBT double-shot Olivia clone

Nice setup. How are the Feker pandas compared to Boba Gum? Not going for Boba U4T instead?

Have not get a chance to test boba ut4 yet, maybe for next 60% build :p always not enough keebs.

I'm happy with the feker panda for now, definitely feels much better than gateron and cherry mx brown for me.

Just ordered the Keychron Q3 knob version as its my first ever custom keyboard. been using prebuilt keyboards such as logitech, corsair and Drevo.

Probably gonna receive the keyboard tommorow or Monday.

What will be the Must do Mod for the Q3? I am totally beginner. I heard of that force break mod to remove ping. Issit pasting masking tape at both sides of the screw hole when the casing is taken apart? or paste over the screw hole?

And what other easy mods that i can do? I dont want to have a hollow sound and yet still want to maintain the gasket mount feel

I have the Q3.
Personally I think it’s good enough as it is.

Unless there’s something about it that you’re not satisfied with, then exercise the option to mod it.

Since you're buying off the shelf. Perhaps just buy something that doesn't have the sound based on review.

You can try the simple mod he did, he explained it in details (scientific approach).

Do we need to take out the keycaps and switches to do the tape mod and force break mod? because its kinda a chore to do all that.

Depends on the constructions. Don't have first hand experience with Q3, but from the look of it maybe just only needs to remove the knob. The rest just be careful not to bend the pcb too much when you are taping the back of it.

Yes, using it stock at the moment.

Q3 construction is abit different from Q1, if you are thinking Q3 inherits the ping from Q1, it doesn’t have it or at least not as bad as Q1.

icic..yea i saw some reviews about q1 but also saw some reviews about Q3 saying that the force break stock rubber pads in the Q3 didnt fully eliminate the ping as it gets compressed.

Was looking at the tape mod people are doing by putting masking tape..will that make the sound a little more "thockky" ?
