I got 2 pairs from ed et al. Lovely shoes!
Personally, I find leather sole lack grip. So I stick on the rubber sole.
Anyway, if u wear through the leather sole, u have to replace the whole goodyear welted sole I think. Think its more costly.

Anyone know where to get good and cheap (30-40 sgd?) wooden shoe tree in Singapore? esp since shipping is expensive for the weight.

Their ready to wear series? About $250 right?

Does anyone know how regularly should one apply the shoe cream for:

1) A pair of leather shoes that I use on a daily basis

2) Another pair of shoes that I use once a week for a couple of hours.

Also, anyone has any good deals for shoe cream conditioners online?

Thanks~

Cole Haan

Does anyone have any experience with Cole Haan dress shoes? What about Kenneth Cole? Thanks.

Alright, let me chime in.

You need two pairs of shoes no matter what. The leather must rest after each wear. Rotate the shoes, allowing the other pair to rest with a shoe tree after each wear.

Invest in your shoes now, instead of buying pair after pair of crap shoes. A $300 pair of shoes will last you 3-5 years with good care and sole protectors.

You need to look for full-grain leather, not the plasticky top-grain or corrected grain shoes. Full-grain leather will last much longer as it will not crack. Also, ensure that the soles are welted (goodyear or blake). I prefer goodyear welt, but blake is also ok.

Some brands you can look at are
  • Clarks (you need to make sure that shoe is welted, and not corrected grain)
  • Loake (I can only recommend the 1880 range) - Available from Herring Shoes or Pediwear (Free shoe trees from Pediwear)
  • Herring Shoes (House brand of Herring Shoes but made by Loakes anyway) - Use code HSAB for free shoe trees
  • Allen Edmonds (Excellent quality, but you need to look for seconds sales, which I can't be bothered. Also you have no way to try on your size unless you are very very sure on the size)
  • Johnston & Murphy (A lot of their shoes are corrected grain but they are mostly goodyear welted, so take care when you buy)

You can try Loake (and Herring Shoes as they are made by Loake) at Robinsons & J&M at Taka.

Even if you don't want to pay so much for shoes now, at least get 2 pairs of shoes and rotate.

What is the typical price of Johnston and Murphy?
Is it an US brand?

J&M shoes in Singapore are all 300+, which will be the same price as buying Loake 1880 online. U confirm will be getting airline calf leather with the 1880.

I suggest a second pair to rotate.

I apply the cream once a month to my shoes and polish on a weekly basis. If shoe is wet from rain need to apply cream to prevent cracks.

If you want Saphir go topang the people buying Meermins.

Was at Robinson card members day just before noon. Wah, so many people don't need to work on a weekday one? Where got economy no good?

Back to topic, saw Barker Woody GYW derby selling for $499 before 10% discount. Online this pair can get for 180UKP inclusive of shipping. Can save $100.

Facing the same issue as you. Unfortunately I think locally only leftfoot, and since its out of small sizes, my only option is online.
Weird thought that official ghbass website does not carry the Larkin tassel model. FYI I've read that this particular model runs a wee bit smaller, maybe because its a D width.

Yup, I wanted to buy under the 2 for 250 offer once, but couldn't as they needed me to call in.

Not to sound like sour grapes but I think AE is regarded way over its value and quality due to the biases of the online menswear community. Firstly, because most of the major style/fashion forums are located in the USA. Next, due to constant repetition in these big forums the shoes become associated with 'quality shoes' regardless of their actual quality.

The fact they offer factory seconds at 30-50% cheaper than retail gives ppl the impression it's way over value. Much like tag, on lvmh sale they are on 50% off.

For that matter buy factory seconds not retail!!
Ppl shop factory seconds didn't complain, only mostly complain from ppl buying at retail.

Just call in with phonecard or what cheap also. The time and effort is worth it.

Fyi Those 2 for $250 does not apply to all shoes anyway. If so I would have hoot those cordovan shoes! U cannot find nice shoe for under usd$150 that is make 100% in a develop country.

Not own a pair and see it for your eyes and bitch that its expensive for the quality is pure sour grapes.
If u can get a pair at usd$120 I am sure u wouldn't think this way. Lol for $300-$400 can get 2 pairs to last a long time. A meermin cost closer to $300 after shipping. 2 pairs of factory seconds AE to me beats a pair of meermin any day. If compare 1 retail AE vs meermin the prize goes to meermin of course.

I own 3 pairs of factory seconds all under usd$140 each
