Undoubtedly some may have faulty units. My mum's Redmi 8 has both SingTel prepaid and TPG SIM in it, no major network issues. The Redmi 6A before that had the same two SIMs in with no issue too. I have been using Xiaomi since 2014, Redmi Note 4G, Mi 5, Mi A2 and now my Pocophone F1 and Redmi Note 8 Pro. No major issues with all, closest was diagnosed motherboard issue with my OOW Mi 5, other than that mostly just software bugs that were later fixed with updates. I do agree that the prices are no longer as competitive especially the physical stores, better luck with online stores.

Heard that the Realme C3 which is using the same Mediatek G70 processor is not working as expected, with no small amount of bugs. Wonder if it's really true.

Should be out this month. Didn't know of the G70 processor issue, but I feel Note 9 or Note 9S could be a better deal compared to the Redmi 9.

As expected, releasing Redmi 9 but running Android Pie (Android 9) out of the box. Instead of Android 10.

I guess it should be Android 10, inexcusable for a manufacturer to sideload Android 9 in a 2020 phone. Sony drawn some flak for their Xperia L4 launching with Android 9 early this year. Android 11 still in beta, not even out on Pixel phones, so Android 10 is still considered up to date at this point, though it will take Redmi a very loooong time to update their phones to new Android versions.

Redmi 8 just got Android 10 in China... so we may get it soon here... Redmi 9 seems to have mysteriously disappeared? I see Redmi 10X but no news of Redmi 9 anywhere... and the Redmi Note 9 already launched all models in the line-up...

Comes with TPU case in-box. Bought a 4/64 for my mum a few months back at $139. Now I guess with Redmi 9 available they are trying to clear Redmi 8 stock.

Actually its not really $99 promotion. Its selling $109 with $10 voucher (minimum spending $100). Yesterday night while I was still deciding which color to get for my parent, the red color got OOS liao. So cant wait just hoot black, got it at $109-$10.

No lah, I placed order yesterday liao too.

I was trying to search information in xiaomi Singapore facebook too, but can only find this page. So technically the current price $109 isn't the cheapest.

I was actually thinking between Redmi 8 or 9, which of course by right the newer the model the better. But I didnt have good experience with MTK phone, so I decided to pick the Redmi 8 instead. Now is see how fast (or slow) it will be delivered.
