5w40 is too thick for most general usage unless for turbo charge car, waste of useful mileage.

Yeah I prefer 5w30 too. 5w40 makes the car very feel very sluggish. Probably going to try 0w30 next, will it make a difference?

A bit different between 5w30 and 0w30 but 0w20 or 5w20 would be the best for throttle response and FC gain.

Any harm to the car if switch to 0w20? I suppose it's a much thinner oil compared to the stock 5w40. I'm driving a Toyota Corolla

I suppose your is a late model corolla, if you check your owner manual, Toyota should also recommend 0w20 or 5w20 viscosity oil, so feel confident in using what's the manufacturer actually recommend, no worries.

Anyway we have many brands of w20 oil at MXTRADINGS to choose from, so do drop by if you are free, can slowly decide which w20 brand suit you.

MXTRADINGS carry 2 type of Motul transmission fluid, Motul Multi-ATF and Motul 300 75w90

Hmmmmm.... surprisingly that's what I drive. the manual says 5-40W but I thought i missed the promo a while back.

If you have an oil temperature guage, you could decide to go thicker or thinner depending on the oil temp during boost. If the oil temp went above 110'c, then w50 would be more suitable, if around 90'c then 5w30 or 10w30.

Ah, was not aware of that. I don't have a gauge though. Been keeping it stock. Which temperature is 5-40W suitable for then since 110c and 90c are pretty close to each other.

Viscosity thicken or thinned according to temperature, if the manufacturer recommend 5w40, they mean it to be at max 100'c. And with every 10'c increase, like to 110'c then you should go 5w50 for it to act like 5w40 at 100'c.

If you see 120'c then you should choose w60 and so on, something like that.

haolian about staying in overseas and drive some yada yada joke puny car don't even know how long it takes to cruise/boost to get from 90degree to 110degree for a stock car

come back and ask the same thing when you drive bigger capacity and bigger turbo car

mine usually hovers around 80+ degree after warm up and normal driving with occasionally boost
