i suggest u dont buy deskmini. i had to rma twice. the motherboard doesnt last 1 year. i sold off after the second rma. both a300 and x300 deskmini is the same hardware in a different case. asrock even accidentally release 4000 series firmware in a beta a300 bios.

This don't sound good at all man. To think that the barebone system is actually not that cheap, failing 2x a year is not a good sign. What I did not like about this barebone system is the limited power and cooling which stopped me from trying it out. The last time I experimented with the InWin Chopin chassis, despite the slightly better cooling solution I used, the Ryzen 5 3400G was overheating in it. The PSU despite being 150W was roasting hot under load. So with stock cooling in the Deskmini with a lower wattage PSU, I don't think it will work well especially if we select say a Ryzen 7 APU.

the 2500u is more value for money than 3450u. if your game supports fsr then you can also play 4k in performance mode

Just get another stick of RAM and you should see a good performance uplift. In fact, you don't have to get DDR4 3200 stick because the 3450U only officially supports up to 2666 Mhz. So that will save you some money. Also, it looks like they are cutting cost because the unit I got came with Crucial DDR4 3200 8GB ram, not Goldkey.

In addition, if you need more storage, I recommend that you sell the SSD off and get a higher capacity one. I don't recommend installing the SATA drive because installing a 2.5 inch drive there means a significant amount of ventilation will be blocked. The design of the chassis isn't good because the fan is installed on the other side of the board where there is no ventilation other than the gaps between the edges of the motherboard and the casing. Under load, the fan works very hard to cool the CPU. For my case, fortunately it never throttles though the temp did hit 90 degs before.

I agree. The performance uplift from the Ryzen 2000 to 3000 series APU is actually very small, with the benefit mostly due to the faster official memory support, i.e. 2400 vs 2666. I am not sure if Maibenben configures the 3450U to run with faster 2666 ram speed or still stuck to 2400.

In most cases, yes. But when it boosts to 3.6Ghz, it may exceed that TDP. Otherwise, the clockspeed usually hovers around 2.8 Ghz.

I think since you have gotten it, might as well just use it. I thought about that too when I got this Maibenben mini PC too, but I feel the price gap is quite big between the 2500U and the 3450U with base ram and SSD config. So the cheapo me went with the cheapest option.

RAM wise, I feel 16GB is good enough. At most you get another 16GB, and make it 24GB with the existing stick. I feel there is no need to replace the existing stick since it is good enough. For my case, I just found a 4GB SODIMM that I pulled out from my dad's M75Q that I got for him and slap it in my mini PC to make it 12GB.

i had one maibenben for abt 3 mths now. used it mainly for movies and I must say it's pretty gd as htpc. I think for ofc work and surf it's more than competent.

Yup, it works perfectly fine for work and multimedia purposes. Gaming wise, I think one can still game reasonably well at low resolution in some games. So for the price, I think it is well worth it.
