need some advice.. quite a computer noob cuz for the past 10 years I just buy the standard macbook pro without much consideration for specs.. now looking to get a desktop.

Main usage will be just for trading, running multiple chart windows on tradingview as well as MT4. Occasional youtube streaming in the background and no gaming at all.

Should I go for the Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7? Also, will 16gb ram be enough or should i go for 32gb?

Thanks in advance :)
Sorry I'm unable to advise you as I'm also getting advice from guys here :)

For those of you using Crucial Ballistix DDR4 RGB ram and unable to control your RGB led, Crucial just updated their Crucial MOD software. Apparently Crucial uploaded the DDR3 MOD software onto the DDR4 link. So Crucial was pushing an incorrect, outdated version of their software. They have since corrected it.
I have tested it on my Crucial Ballistix DDR4 RGB ram and it's working fine.

Link to the updated MOD software below. Please click on the "Download Software" button. Do not click the link to the DDR3 MOD software.

I am not too familiar with trading/ chart software, but considering my bro in law did not use a very powerful system to do his trading job, I supposed you may not need too powerful a system. If that is the case and to play it safe, I think a Ryzen 5 should be good enough. You may need an external GPU if you need multiple screens. If you wait till Aug to get a Ryzen 5 5600G, it will come with integrated graphics, but it should only support up to a max of 3 screens if I am not wrong.

What kind of trading platform/software are you using? I am running Poems and Tiger Brokers client software for trading on my current rig with just a Ryzen 3300X and 16GB of rams. More than enough.

A Ryzen 4650G or the upcoming 5600G with integrated graphic and 16GB of rams should be more than enough.

Indeed, I don't think I need a really powerful system like those spec-d out 2k and above rigs like those i saw on aftershock website. I'm currently powering 2 monitors from my mac mini m1 and another external display from my 2018 hp envy 13 laptop. Ideally looking for a new desktop rig that can output to 2-3 external displays to replace both the mac mini and hp laptop.

Since August is just a few weeks away, I guess I should just wait for the new Ryzen 5 5600G since I'm not urgently requiring the new desktop? Would there be a huge price difference between getting the current Ryzen 5 4000 series vs the 5000 series?

I currently use MT4 as well as a **** ton of charts on TradingView via vivaldi browser (to bypass tradingview multi chart window limitations). Noticed from my mac mini istats that vivaldi browser is eating up a lot of my ram and thus utilizing a lot of the ssd swap memory as well. Hence thought of getting at least 16gb ram or even 32gb (overkill) to ensure everything runs smoothly.

if you are using m1 maybe its lagging because not native app? i dont think 5600g will be easily available.

since everything works for you, best to wait for next years ryzen 6000 with ddr5. if buy pc this year a bit wasted because you can expect 30% improvement for the same price

if single thread performance is not important to u (which it might not be for ur use case), then it might be better to go with the 4650g. u can get it now for about $300, and that is ignoring the fact that pricing for it has been on a downward trend for the past few weeks. meanwhile, the 5600g starts at 260usd, which is about $350 before gst and local distro markup. graphics and io are identical across 4000 and 5000 series, and cpu is generally safe to buy without warranty, so personally i would just save the $50+ and get it now, though of course ur priorities may be different.

Buying a new PC this year may mean shelling out more because of ongoing chip shortages which impacts most of the components in a PC. But in any case, I won't recommend going with Ryzen 6000 and DDR5. DDR5 will benefit the APU mostly when it comes to gaming. There are some applications that may prefer higher memory bandwidth, but not too sure if it makes any tangible different to trading / charting purpose. And I am pretty sure DDR5 is not going to be cheap since its new, not to mention the base model may even regress in performance due to much higher latencies.

Best is at least wait for Intel 3mn Second Generation.

Only that the Ryzen 4000 series APU are not available as boxed versions. One can get it as a tray version, which means the warranty is tagged to the seller and not direct with AMD. Otherwise, the other way to get it will be from a system builder.

TSMC will make Intel CPUs on 3nm in 2022.
Moi waiting to see first batch performance how.
If Intel can lower nm it should crush AMD.
That's TSMC 3nm man. And given the cost of 3nm, I don't expect consumer chips to get TSMC 3nm treatment. Alder and Raptor Lake should be on Intel 10nm. The below is just some leaks, but looking at Intel's 7nm timeline, chances of Raptor Lake getting the 7nm treatment is very slim since the chip design should be ready by now or soon.

https://www.techradar.com/sg/news/i...illed-including-compatibility-with-alder-lake
Also, I won't think they can crush AMD because while Alder Lake/ Raptor Lake comes with a higher core count, that is courtesy of high number of efficient cores. But nonetheless will be interesting to see how they perform.

I also think its a good bargain to get those 4650G now. Price have been dropping after the announcement of Cezanne APU. Don't always chase the latest hardware, it's never ending. :giggle:
5600G won't be cheap locally when available. One can bet on that.

its not. they explicitly mentioned the chassis is the root cause
Today contacted Lenovo via hotline, was told the same.

was offered 5% discount if want to wait

Thinking whether to wait or to cancel the order, any thoughts?

If you find a good alternative, no harm cancelling. Conversely if you don't find anything as good in terms of specs and price, then no harm waiting.

Moving close to aug 5, official launched of Ryzen 5600g and 5700g for retail

seems like 3200mhz ram is a good enough pairing

while 4000mhz is the sweet spot but more expensive option

many one ready for it?

Personally I would go for the 3600 Mhz rams since they are not a lot more expensive than 3200 Mhz ones. The Ryzen 5000 APU is decent, but in view that next gen APUs are going to be based on RDNA2, if you don't need one now, it makes sense to hold off the purchase at this point. At least this no longer interest me now.

Almost deciding to move ahead with below parts for itx

AMD Ryzen 5600g
Asrock B550m ITX/A
Corsair vengeance 8gb 3200mhz rams x2
WD SN750 500gb nvme gen 3 ssd
All from Amazon US/SG

hope this built is decent and good enough to last for 5 yrs with minimal or light gaming

just not sure if the b550 mobo from Amazon can use Ryzen 5600g straight out of the box or need to flash the bios to latest but I have no previous gen chips to flash the bios
