I think Ryzen 5 4500U Laptop with 8GB RAM around SGD$700 should be attainable.

I feel the pricing is to be expected. When I see Asus, I won't be bothered anymore. Considering I was expecting at least 650 SGD for the base barebone system, adding the SSD, RAM and OS, the pricing around 900+ sounds about right.

Anyway in my opinion, this is an Asus problem. AMD sells the chips to PC makers, so it is up the PC maker to price it accordingly.

You could already buy that from qoo10. last sale got 100 off 1000 or 10% off. so the lenovo slim 3 4500u is below $600 (before 7% customs). acer aspire 5 $680 (seller use dhl no gst)

Last year I already grab a 3500U 8GB 2TB Lenovo Laptop SGD$520.


So don't really need a new paper weight atm.

yup. maybe 2 year later sell that off at $200 then can get another china amd with 4000 or 5000 at $400-500 to upgrade.

Laptop are better.
1) Cheaper.
2) Got Monitor Screen.
3) Got free Legit Windows

Only downside is bigger size and cannot put behind monitor.
All these NUC knn mostly overpriced, even for Barebone.

I just buy Laptop nowadays, unless you really need the small form factor.

Have been buying desktop all these years becos of easier to troubleshoot and upgrade different parts but have been buying smaller and smaller desktop
Now even mini itx case feels too big for my usage haha

Had a netbook laptop connected to monitor previously but found it troublesome so always stick to desktop ever since

And yes, will be vesa mounting my new desktop to save space

In terms of value, laptop is indeed a better buy. However if you don't have much space to spare, then something like an NUC that can be mounted behind say a television, is still more desirable. So this is subjective to individual's need.
