No...what I meant was that, in order to be accepted into the major-biz admin, nid at least GPA 2.75 from last sem onwards. In order to graduate from a biz admin degree, nid at least GPA 2.5 to graduate.

For those who come from poly, there is no exact cut-off-point to get into any course in ub, as acceptance into ub will be considered as a case-by-case basis. Basically, you just nid to fulfill the minimum criteria, which is at least 5 'O'-level credit to get considered for admission into UB. Also, as long as you did relatively acceptable in poly, they will consider your application. Just that ppl rarely come directly from 'O'-level, because you will have to pay the whole course fees which are super expensive as you will not have any waivers or exemptions. Ppl normally enter with a dip. or an 'A'-level cert.

I hope those info helps :)

What do you mean by "not because gahmen dont allow?" Our govt does allow, I have frens in UB who come directly from 'O'-level. Just that its way too expensive if you come directly from 'O'-level as you will have to pay the full school fees.

To justdroppingby,

You will get a general biz degree cert, with dip in whatever concentrations that you chose. You can do either single/double concentrations.

A diploma in the concentration? Does this mean that if I am from the polytechnic and I have a diploma in Finance and i chooce the finance track, it means that I have 2 diplomas in finance? D=

didnt see this anywhere though =S

Nope, one can still enter UB with just a mere 'O'-level cert, just that you need to have 5 credit passes. An 'A'-level cert or a dip. is just an addition and an advantage so that you will get advanced credit when considering for admission and waivers/exemptions for the course that you chose in UB.

Yes, you will receive a degree in biz admin with a diploma/double diploma in whatever concentrations that you chose. In your case, if you were to choose to do finance concentration, then you will receive a bachelor's degree in biz admin+a dipoma cert in finance upon graduation. And yes, this is not written in the UB programme description website. It is when you are accepted into UB, then the school will reveal all those academic-related info.

iPrepNS | Pre-enlistment FAQs
i think this website contradict your assumption! if you know someone please provide example where they can directly enter uni without serving national service

First of all, I am NOT making an assumption. I do have guy frens who enter into UB directly from 'O'-levels. They can defer their enlistment until after they graduate, where they are only ~19/20 yrs old. Or alternatively, they can serve the NS when they are called upon, then take leave of absence at UB. They can rejoin UB again after they finish serving their NS. I think what you have heard is applicable to local unis? In UB,you are allow to take leave of absence whilst you serve NS.

NS.SG:Can I defer if I am studying private courses? You will be granted deferment to pursue full-time courses at private institutions, not leading to a degree qualification, if you are able to commence the course before you turn 18 years old.

please double check your information! as this is an assumption that will affect many . Personally if what you say its true i will change my recommandation to people who asked me for advice

Let me stress again, this is NOT an assumption. UB allows the taking of leave of absence to complete NS. After which, one may continue his studies. Written below is evidences of my statement from UB, please do not use you whatever info you have to rebutt me again, as you are NOT an UB student, therefore you DO NOT know what can be done/cannot be done. As long as everything is being settled in a proper and legal way, its possible.

Leave of Absence for Spring 2012

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear students,

The application for Spring 2012 Leave of Absence opens on Monday, October 3, 2011.
The deadline is Monday, January 6, 2012 at 5.00pm.

You are responsible to DROP ALL THE MODULES during the Course Registration Exercise in November 2011 (look out for official announcement on the exact period via SIM Students' Portal) if you are applying for Leave of Absence for Spring 2012.

As published in the UB Website
Undergraduate Leave of Absence (LOA)
* You may request a Leave of Absence for one or two semesters from your enrollment at the university. Securing a Leave of Absence will preserve your status as of the time you begin your leave and will eliminate any re-application process or paperwork when you return.

* Documents to be submitted for approval (1 original set and 1 photocopied set):

1. Leave of Absence Form (UB) - download the form from this link
2. Student Request Form (SIM) - click title to download form

** Click HERE to view the sample form of Student Request Form

1. Application for Spring 2012 only - click HERE to view the sample form

2. Application for Spring 2012 & Summer 2012 - click HERE to view the sample form

Students Applying for Internship

* Submit forms for LOA while awaiting confirmation on your internship. You may retract your application in the event that your internship application is unsuccessful.

* Confirm your internship application status before Spring 2012 begins on January 16, 2012 by writing to SIM mail using your SIM LIVE@EDU account only.

* You are responsible to drop all the pre-registered modules via HUB if your application is successful.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERA
* You must possess a UB GPA of 2.0 or above and have no disciplinary check-stops. Additionally, students convicted of felonies while enrolled at UB are not eligible for a leave of absence.

* Students who are ineligible for a Leave of Absence, but who leave UB, must complete an Admissions Re-Entry Form should they wish to return.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
* You might delay your graduation every time you apply for Leave of Absence.

* You are responsible to check the Course Sequence upon your return to catch up on the modules you have missed during your Leave of Absence .

* You are responsible to confirm your return by writing to SIM mail using your SIM LIVE@EDU account only.

REASONS FOR LOA
* Enlistment for National Service (2 years) - 2 forms required

* Internships

* Summer Abroad Study Program

* Exchange Program

* Medical reasons (if you will be away for the entire semester). NOT applicable to a few days of absences from classes. The official documents are required.
* Awaiting June 2012 Conferral - No modules to register for a particular semester and awaiting conferral in the following semester. Please ensure that you drop all the modules during the Course Registration Exercise.
For example: If you have completed all the requirements by Fall 2011, and have filed for June 2012 Conferral. You MUST apply for Leave of Absence for Spring 2012.

PROCEDURES
* You must formally apply for Leave of Absence and have it approved by UB, after which it will be coded on the computer system (to hold your place and provide easy re-entry at the end of your leave period).

* Submit 2 sets of forms to Student Helpdesk in an envelop attentioned to HE4, before the deadline stated above. Please go through all your documents with the Student Helpdesk staff prior to sealing up your envelop.

Attention: HE4
Documents for : "Leave of Absence Spring 2012"
From: Your Full Name
Program/intake: BAC/6 (example)
Date of Submission : December 25, 2011 (example)

* Late submission will be rejected.
* Just prior to your planned leave semester, you should meet with your advisor, especially if you intend to later transfer credits to UB. If you attend other colleges or universities during your leave period, you must have an official transcript forwarded to UB within 6 weeks of your return. The credits will be evaluated as transfer credit.

* Use TAURUS to check if modules taken at other institutions will articulate to specific UB modules.
* You may return before the end of your Leave of Absence, but you cannot exceed the period approved in your Leave of Absence. If you do, you will have to apply for re-admission to UB and to your major department.
* If you need to extend your Leave of Absence beyond the maximum two semesters, you will need to submit additional form for UB approval.

* No Leave of Absence can be approved retroactively. If you leave the university without an official Leave of Absence , you will need to complete a Re-Entry Form with the Office of Admissions. And, upon readmission, you will be obligated to follow new academic policies and fees and will have to re-apply to your academic major department.

* Students convicted of felonies during their UB enrollment are not eligible for a Leave of Absence. These students must apply for readmission using the Admissions Re-Entry Form, and must comply with all procedures stipulated by the University Screening Committee for Judicial Concerns.

Withdrawing/Cancelling Leave of Absence
* If you decide to cancel your Leave of Absence , please write to SIM mail officially using your SIM LIVE@EDU account only.

Returning from Leave of Absence
* Students are to inform the Program Executive via SIM mail using SIM LIVE@Edu account 2 months prior to the commencement of the semester after the end of Leave of Absence .

For example: Leave of Absence ends in Spring (April), students should send the email in February to confirm their return in Summer or to extend their Leave of Absence.

This confirmation is important as UB needs to be notified early in order to include returning student in the pre-registration list for the new semester.

NOTE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
* International students cannot apply for Leave of Absence, they need to submit Student Request Form and tick "Withdrawal from course", apply for re-entry upon completion of National Service in home country.

* The re-entry application is not an automatic acceptance and is subject to approval by UB and ICA.

You are strongly encouraged to clarify with SIM-UB staff prior to the submission of Leave of Absence forms.

SO how is that not making a assumption?

p.s please read the NS directive before shoot off
such as this statement again

If you have valid information , please back it with a credible sources as personally i feel that if what you say is true , its a alternative route for local students

Hi guys, i am currently in the ub program, taking biz admin. The GPA for this program have just risen starting from this sem, from 2.5 to 2.75.

I came from JC, and I've gotten waivers for up to $12000. Some of my frens who took similar mods and excel in them in 'A's will get more waivers, up to roughly $15000. It really depends on your subjects that you have taken, your grades and the course that you choose to take in UB.

From what my poly frens have told me, if you have taken similar dip. course in poly and in UB, you will get roughly half of the course fees waived off, or even more for some. You will get waivers from some of the core mods and some general education mods, humanities requirements, AACSB requirements and free electives waived off. So generally, those from poly will graduate much earlier than those coming from JC. Feel free to ask me any qns abt the ub program :)

Hi there, I'll be starting UB Biz ad soon, and I'm kind of unsure about the waivers for credits. If it's okay, can I know which subjects they took into consideration for your waiver? And with those credits waived off, does it mean you don't have to take those respective modules? Thanks in advance!

Hi jrawker,

I've graduated from poly with a dip in accountancy & finance, but I'm not entirely sure how many exemptions I'm eligible for. Do you've an idea of how much time+money I might get to save if I were to take up the Double Deg in biz admin + psych? I'm not asking for an accurate answer here, just a rough gauge to aid in my decision making. Thanks :)

Is there no one here taking UB BA Communications? Could someone shed some light on credit exemptions if I come from an engineering background in poly?

For a Diploma graduate in Banking and financial services from a local Polytechnic, how long it will take estimatedly to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree from UB and the total school fees?
