2) If you do not mind using Nokia ONR, Starhub promotion on the 5Gbps plan at S$29.55 per month is of very good value.

https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...speed-5gbps-onr-at-2955_ultraspeed-5gbps.html

UltraSpeed 5Gbps with Wifi 6 router
$29.55 per month
Yes this 5Gbps is quite attractive. They don't go all the way down to fight price. But always bundle this bundle that, always trying to make ppl take tv & disney+...

Last time I paid 50+ for broadband termination.

Eh, I'm using ONR.
Also using my own router though.
2 routers infact. One set as AP, with same wifi ssid as before, so my devices can just connect seamlessly.
The other router testing dual WAN, this is set as normal router. So I can access the admin as per normal.
Yes.

In AP mode your own wireless router acts as a switch.

Some people connect it as wireless router mode and have double NAT but don't realised they have network issue.

Don't think is a choice anymore.

Both 2.5 and 10gbps already price at $29.99 on their website, and stated "FREE upgrade to 10Gbps Broadband & 10Gbps ONT device worth $118" for 2.5gpbs.

Top up $9.99 or jump ship.

Currently I pay around 30 buck for m1...wanna swap over to the $20...end up 29.99. 💀🤡

Just remmeber the older "S$20" plan is not at S$20 per month, but at S21.80 per month (wth GST) and upfront fees (ONT and NLT activation fees). And it is with 12 month contract and not clear whether SIMBA will continue to offer that price after 12 months -- I believe NOT.

Now the two fees are free -- I believe the free ONT will be permanent whereas the free NLT activation fee is a temporary promotion.

SIMBA 2.5Gbps Broadband
Waived NLT Service Activation fee worth $61.04
FREE ONT device worth $50

FREE upgrade to 10Gbps Broadband & 10Gbps ONT device worth $118

If you count the two fees and the 12 month contract, then the S$21.80 per month plan becomes S$21.80 + (S$50+S$61.04)/12 = S$31.05 per month.

Total cost of ownership is almost the same for 1 year, just remains to be seen if they will grandfather the old price for earlier 2.5G subscribers after 1 year.

Actually Singtel users complained about Internet lag not because of Double NAT or the basic features of the Singtel ONR, but because of poor wireless routers from Singtel or the lousy Singtel Mesh solutions (junk grade mesh solution). Singtel gets low cost wireless router and mesh solution from Arcadyan/Askey/Airties and customize the firmware features to the bare minimum.

Those who choose to use Double NAT with Singtel ONR are the better ones among Singtel user base -- they want to use their own router but they may not know how to bridge the Singtel ONR. So they will go with Double NAT rather than using their own router in AP mode.

BTW, Starhub free Wireless routers are not really better by much either -- Nokia Beacon 1 is the worst free ISP given router after year 2014, along with Singtel AC Plus. Nokia Beacon 2 is only slightly better. Even the Linksys Atlas is not good. The latest Nokia all-in-one ONR (WiFi AX6000) is not that good either.

Same, my MR 1Gbps contract finish in a few months.

$30 for 10Gbps sounds like a bargain, but also have to factor in cost of new equipment as well (router, switch, network card). If not i am using it as 2.5Gbps anyway.

Now considering 3Gbps instead from other ISP. Need to pay a few more dollars (same price as what i am paying for 1Gbps though), but at least they are more established and would have better routing than Simba.

That time my contract ending they didn't have this plan yet. Kept calling me to recontract. If I had recontracted, will be paying the same price of 3Gbps for 1Gbps.

Just hate long contract periods....

My own home area still doesn't have Simba bb coverage yet.
Been on M1 500Mbps contract-free for more than 2 years ($30).
Between Starhub 5Gbps ($30) vs. M1 2.5Gbps ($40) - seems like the Starhub one is the more value for money plan. I don't use the Home Digital Voice service in my own home.
I intend to use my own router (China Huawei BE3Pro). The Starhub ONR.. will it be difficult to put it to bridge mode and use my own router? Kinda noob here.

Starhub ONR basically can only be bridged if you manage to get the one time superadmin password from the installer (against Starhub SOP).

So better not to take chance if you do not want to use unbridged ONR.

Huawei BE3 Pro is anyway not a good router. So you can just use it as an AP after the Nokia ONR if you are keen on the Starhub S$29.55 per month 5Gbps promotion.
