$20+ for 2.5gbps only. Dun expect the sky for the time being.

Indeed.

I do believe that SIMBA will offer Static IPv4 add-on in the future, like VQ/MR. I tend to think they should be able to get IPv6 work as well (without extra cost) since their mobile network is said to have IPv6 working.

Digital Volice may be a different thing as they need to provide Voice enabled ONT which may be of a bit higher cost than the current one.

I see no chance for WC to change the GPON ONR to offer an ONT with 2.5G port in the near future. The plan is an aggregated 2.5Gbps plan in the end. Of course users may be able to replace the ONR with a 2.5G capable ONU but that is only for some determined users.

Yes CGNAT without IPv6 support is a deal breaker for power users.

On the other hand, ONR is a deal breaker for Whizcomms for me as well, even more than CGNAT.

To be honest, IMHO, WC 2.5Gbps using ONR is worse than WC 1Gbps using ONT, at least for my use cases where I need to be able to use my own router's full capabilities. I will not go for either one. But if you force me die die must choose one, I would actually go with SIMBA.

Anyway, I think both are for users who value LOW COST more than other things. And both should be OK for typical users, who will not care about either CGNAT or ONR.

The reason there is no point reaching 2.5Gbps unless you have huge capacity you own in Singapore.

No server is giving your 2.5Gbps. I dont think you expect 2.5Gbps from tormenting or even download from cloud. Like i mention most cloud provided limiting the traffic per ip to prevent traffic hogging.CGNAT making it worst

Maybe my design abit different .. all most of my heavy usage equipment goes into ONR directly and my wifi router only serve wifi traffic. Most wifi struggle to reach beyond 1gbps anyway(real speed not theoretically speed). On my wifi 6 end to end node(no internet involve), it barely keeping up at 1gbps. Wifi 6 threorically limit at 1.2 Gbps per stream.

Instead i see WC will provide upgrade path to 2.5Ggbps ONT when the current huawei stock they have runs out.
Do note WC allow ONT configuration upon request. Its every hard to find cheap GPON with 2.5gbps fiber and 2.5GT-Base GBE, mostly around S$250 without GPON SFP

It is no longer the case for WC 2.5Gbps, as you really CAN NOT bridge the GPON ONR. Once you bridge it, it becomes 1Gbps.

It is the same for Singtel 2Gbps and VQ 2Gbps, you can not bridge the ONR for these type of agggregated plan.

FAQ from VQ:
https://viewqwest.com/sg/residential/faq-delivery-and-installation/

Can I use my fibre modem as a bridge?
You can use your fibre modem as a bridge.

For the 2Gbps Single Network, the 4-port Fibre modem must act as the primary router. Any other routers you plan to use must be set as an Access Point.

If you wish to bridge the modem and use another router as the primary router, you’ll need to subscribe to 1Gbps Plan.

You can easily find cheap ones below S$40 out there.

I believe SIMBA gets the LINK-ALL 2.5G capable ONT at the cost of below S$30 in bulk.

Singtel/WC ONR may be at similar cost in bulk.

BTW, what you say applies equal to SIMBA and WC 2.5Gbps plans, or all the 2Gbps and 10Gbps plan out there.

And that is another reason why I say WC 2.5Gbps plan with ONR is worse than WC 1Gbps plan with ONT.
1) You lose the freedom to use you own router's full capability
2) You will most likely not be able to consue more than 1Gbps anyway.

That being said, most of the users will not care as long as the cost is now LOWER. So in this aspect, both WC and SIMBA 2.5Gbps are good for most of the users.

Not for public.. unless u buy in thousand unit from supplier. also they need to be compatible with your ISP OTL

Yup, u cant run ONT on 2.5Gbps because the current ONR cant support it. In future when their huawei out of stock(gods know when), there might be a chance.

Before jumping into "yeah i got 2.5gpbs for my router capacity" go look at your router currently, are they reaching even near 1gbps ?

When most of the time you cant reach 2.5gbps of capacity on the internet, you lost the pros from Simba while CGNAT cons remain all the time.

Hello i would like to check if anyone is having the same issue or there is something wrong with my setup.

Recently i have swopped to Simba 2.5g plan from Myrepublic 1g gamer plan. However the speeds i am getting on Simba is much lower than Myrepublic. Fortunately i have both line still active to test till mid-feb.

Tested with my iphone 15 pro max via speedtest app, in the same position around 50cm from both router.

Simba is running on Xiaomi Be7000
Myrepublic is running on Asus AX11000

Test to which speedtest server? your wireless router also not consistent, too many variables at play in your testing.

Ideally you'd test against the same server several times using a wired ethernet connection.

I am testing to newmedia server for both connections and have tested it a few times.

Also forgot to mention i have tried to swop the 2 routers but the one that is running Simba connection is consistently having poorer speeds.

Are there better tools than speedtest to measure accurately? Thanks in advance 🙏

OOkla SpeedTest app is okay for internet speed test.

Basically you should test with a wired connection in order to check whether your SIMBA connection is proper or not first before testing wireless.

If your current PC does not have a 2.5G Ethernet adapter, get a USB to 2.5G adapter and it is not expensive (eg: Ugreen is a quality brand). Carry out the speedtest to confirm that your SIMBA connection is okay first (you should get around 1.8Gbps as per the report here).

I am currently using WC ONR that connected to 1 router and another router connected to the 1st router via cable. 1st router set up as router and 2nd router as AP with both routers using the same SSID. Working perfectly for me as the devices will pick up the nearest router almost seamlessly for WIFI. My question is, if I change to SIMBA, i.e., ONT, can the same set up work? TIA for any useful information.

Yes, can work.

But consider a MESH system for seamless roaming.

Your setup will work.

However, if your current main router does not have 2.5G WAN port and only 1Gbps WAN port, then you are not able to utilize the 2.5G bandwidth provided by the SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan.

What are the two wireless routers you are using now?

My first router is ASUS RT-AC2600 which should give me up to 1.7G? 2nd router is Singtel mesh router which should give me up to 1.9G? I am really a noob but my current speed using ethernet connection [both routers] tests show between 1 - 1.2 GB with WC 1GB plan. Actually I am just happy with the seamless WIFI between the 2 routes. Speed tests show between 600-700 Mbps with WIFI at most places in the house.

I am sorry but I can not comprehend what you are saying with regards to the speed above 1Gbps.

With the current two routers you have, it is better to stick to WC if you do not want to change the main router.

I tend to believe you are using WC ONR and your two wireless routers run in AP mode. In that case, your current setup will work well with WC 2.5Gbps plan as well.

I am using 3rd party shipping (淘宝集运) by sea, which is pretty cheap, probably less than S$2. But you need to wait for about three weeks to one month to get the stuff. GST always applies with shipping by sea. Total cost should be less than S$130 (RMB599 for the ZTE BE7200 router, plus 9% GST, plus S$2 shipping, roughly S$126).
hi sorry to bring up this old topic
like to check how is the performance of this ZTE BE7200? is the signal strong and stable ?
thanks
