when using wifi to do test, it is also subjective to your device. When i do test with both Dell laptop and Macbook Air. Same distance and both connected to same AP with Wifi 6 connection. My Dell only can get 100plus mbps but my Macbook Air can get 200plus. My Dell laptop can only get 200plus is I just place my laptop next to my AP. My Samsung phone even worse not matter where i do the test, with wifi 6 i can only get 60plus mbps only.

Wah lau, I use my cheapo Poco F5 phone and test, I get 800+Mbps via Wifi6 at about 4-5m from my AP with a wooden door in between. LOL!

Wifi test got many things that could deter the max speed.when I see people put "Connect to Wifi-6"
Do they know it's connected to 2.4GHz or 5GHz or 6GHz bandwidth??

If you router combines both 2.4 & 5 GHz bandwidth. Then it might not be using 5ghz (faster) but instead using 2.4ghz (slower).

Hmm, the question has been answered multiple times.

In order to fully utilize SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan, your router needs to have 2.5G WAN port. TP-Link Archer AX72 does not have 2.5G port.

Recommended router to go with SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan.
1) Recommended: Dual 2.5G ports
This is required if you have 2.5G wired devices now or in the near future, one for WAN and one for LAN.

Local version with warantty
Asus TUF-AX6000 (around S$329) and GT-AX6000 (around S$450 BNIB from Carousell), etc, depending on your budget.

Asus China version if you do not mind no local warantty
Asus TX-AX6000 (China version of TX-AX6000), very cost effective version

If you do not mind no local warantty, China version WiFi 7 routers (no 6GHz band, no 320MHz channel width), then you can look at the following.

Xiaomi BE7000
Xiaomi BE6500 Pro
ZTE BE7000 Pro+
TP-Link TL-7DR6560 BE6500

2) Single 2.5G WAN port
This is only applicable if you do not plan to have 2.5G wired device.

Local version with warantty
Asus TUF-AX4200 (around S$229) and Asus RT-AX86U Pro, etc, depending on your budget.

I would not recomend TP-Link Archer AX55 Pro (around S$229, AX3000) or Archer AX72 Pro (around S$300, AX5400) as Asus TUF-AX4200 is cost effective (around S$229, AX4200) and better.

3) List of China version WiFi 7 routers here.

Currently I'm on M1's 500Mb, using Asus RT-AC1200G+ Router.
I used one of its LAN for the TV.

I don't understand what's the need for WAN?

Thanks for clarifying.

If you use a router with gigabit WAN port, then you are using SIMBA 2.5Gbps as 1Gbps plan. You can of course do that.

But Asus RT-AC1200G+ is already EOL and no longer supported by Asus, so it is better for you to upgrade the router. In that case, it is better to upgrade to a router with 2.5G WAN port to fully utilize the bandwidth provided by SIMBA.

I know I need a latest router but don't understand what does WAN do, as currently I'm using LAN for my TV.

Does WAN works like LAN for my needs ie connect to my TV?

Thanks

Watch the few introduction videos in the first post of the following thread and you should gain some good knowldge of home networking.

But if you are really impatient, here is one introduction.

Thanks for all the info bros.

But my new router (Asus Tuf- ax6000) only comes with 1x 2.5Gbps WAN and 1x 2.5Gpbs LAN (rest are 1Gpbs).
If I want to connect to 2 other PCs with 2.5Gpbs, can I buy a small switch that has 4x2.5Gps ports? This works?
Means the 2 PCs will share the 2.5Gpbs LAN speed?
Else then would be 1 PC use 2.5Gpbs LAN, the other use AX wifi?

Yes you can buy a 2.5Gbps 4 port switch to connect both PCs with 2.5Gbps.

You won't be maxing out all 2.5Gbps at the same time all the time anyway.

Its just like currently how all your Gigabit devices all connect to Gigabit Switch or router with a 1Gigabit plan.

Updated the comparions of WC 2.5Gbps (ONR, aggregated 2.5Gbps) vs SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan (CGNAT without IPv4 add-on).
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...nd-whizcomm-boradband.6984714/#post-150697339

Personal Recommendations: just my personal opinion:
Avoid both plans as of now, especially for power users.

For an average user who want to have a low Fibre internet plan and do not mind the limitations of the ONR, WC 2.5Gbps may be the way to go. The WC ONR limitation may not mean much to an average user. WC 2.5Gbps may be more stable choice between the two as it is riding on Singtel network and it is available now to all users whereas SIMBA is still rolling out the service.

If currently using MR 1Gbps without IPv4 add-on, using Xiaomi BE7000 router, no complains with MR for few years. Switching to SIMBA 2.5Gbps should be fine right? Not hosting anything.

Hi, for Xiaomi BE7000, there are 4 ethernet ports, the description on the router just state 2.5GE WAN/LAN , so all 4 ports are will give me 2.5 ? e.g 1 port to SIMBA modem , 2 ports LAN cable to my 2 PC, both the PC will be on 2.5?

Yes.

also BE6500 pro or BE7000 ? about $30 difference

Xiaomi BE7000 is better in terms of faster CPU and better wireless coverage. Some people also do not like the large form factor. If you do not mind the form factor, go with Xiaomi BE7000.

Xiaomi BE6500 Pro is not as good as BE7000 in terms of CPU and wireless coverage. But it supports Xiaomi Ecosystem stuff (Chinese ones). Some people may also like the form factor.

No issues with the setup.

Performance wise -- SIMBA latency may be worse compared to MR if you play on-line games, especially to China. SIMBA also does not have the proven track record of stability yet.

thanks man.. appreciate your help and patience here .. using a non 2.5g router currently, the wired connection seems unstable compared to previous 1g singtel plan. live streaming keeps getting disconnected. hopefully a new router will fixed it.
