On the other hand, it is pretty difficult to explain the issues faced by some users here where wired speed seems to be normal (eg: 1.8Gbps with 2.5G capable device, or 900+ Mbps with 1G capable device), but the wireless speed seems to be very low.

I tend to think this is still related how SpeedTest server works. But I do not have the technical background to really explain why wireless results are much worse than normal (only 200Mbps to 300Mbps) if the wired result is normal.

I tried to replicate the issue with non-Singtel SpeedTest servers, unforutnately I can not replicate the issue (proper wired result yet poor close range wireless result, with a decent wireless router and wireless client). My poor close range wireless result is linked to the poor wired resutls.

Today my Singtel 1Gbps plan (Singtel ONT, Asus RT-AX86U router, Acer Windows 11 laptop, Ugreen USB 3.0 to gigabit adapter, Intel AX201 WiFi 6 adapter) has a very bad ping and speed with M1 SpeedTest server, as Singtel does not have good peering with M1. Both wired results and wireless results are bad.

If your M1 speed on wifi is also that low, then it probably means your wireless environment might be too congested. What is the linkspeed established with the router? Normally, the latest intel AX210 wifi card can have a max linkspeed of up to 2400Mbps established with the router. Android phones also can show linkspeed.

There is an app called wifiinfoview which can scan and tell you how many different networks are around you. Then you can go figure out which are the least used/overlapped channels and configure your router to use them. I usually used the wifiinfoview with wifi analyzer (from windows app store). Wifi analyzer is more graphical and better to look at. But wifi infoview provides more details like all the routers max speed, channels they are using and their bandwidths (20mhlz, 40, 80, 160 or 320mhz). Though I have not seen any 320mhz yet. You probably won't need 160mhz channel bonding to hit 500 or 600mbps if you can find a better and with little overlapping 5Ghz channel.
I've tried changing channels and bandwidth and the best combo only gave me 200mbps on wireless, so I'm assuming the problem lies with simba's backend, as the tech only managed 1.1gbps on his equipment despite many tries, and he suggested it could be because it's my location in jurong west...he gave me a link to feedback to simba, but I got a textbook reply about them offering great value, user experience is a "best effort basis"...blah blah blah...which is why I want to see if any user from jurong faced the same speed

As mentioned earlier you have a case here. But even of the wired result is only 1.1Gbps, have you tried using wired test on your computer? Even without 2.5G capable device and testing only with 1G capable device, you should still get above 900Mbps. Have you tried that?

All in all, no point debugging wireless speed without testing the wired speed first.

Internet connection isn't just about bandwidth.

If you ever played online games on a Singtel connection (or have friends who does), you might have found they will get random ping spikes or bad ping to local server or even HK servers.

Not unheard of for them to get 40ms for local servers and 200ms for HK servers

That said, dunno how well Simba does in this regard so i reserve judgement on them. But i can definitively say singtel is a no go if you play games.
I can help you with some new data points. On Singtel and recently trying to play Apex SG servers i get 230ms ping @_@. thank god the other games i play still samasama don;t know what happened to cause thheir routing so gg (before was very usable)

For those who have low wireless speedtest issues, you may want to carry out speedtest using wired first. It is okay even if you do not have 2.5G capable device. You may want to try different test servers.

Expected test results:
About 1.6Gbps to 1.8Gbps with 2.5G capable device, or 900+ Mbps with 1G capable device),

++++++++++++++++++++
The following example is using OOkla SpeedTest CLI version, which may provide clearer information.

SpeedTest server used: Singtel, Viewquest, Starhub and M1. You can see Singtel connection to M1 SpeedTest server is very bad.

For SIMBA users, it is even more important to test with different OOkla SpeedTest servers, since SIMBA may not have good connections to the other ISPs and the SpeedTest servers. And for wireless, it is better to test close range test first.

It is interesting I can not ping simba.sg.

Looks like Singtel routing to SIMBA is very bad.

210.10.78.1 is said to be SIMBA gateway for SIMBA Fibre Internet users.

Bash:
root@OpenWrt:~# ping -c 4 simba.sg
PING simba.sg (210.10.12.91): 56 data bytes

--- simba.sg ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

root@OpenWrt:~# ping -c 4 210.10.78.1
PING 210.10.78.1 (210.10.78.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 210.10.78.1: seq=0 ttl=244 time=221.467 ms
64 bytes from 210.10.78.1: seq=1 ttl=244 time=221.299 ms
64 bytes from 210.10.78.1: seq=2 ttl=244 time=221.320 ms
64 bytes from 210.10.78.1: seq=3 ttl=244 time=221.283 ms

--- 210.10.78.1 ping statistics ---

round-trip min/avg/max = 221.283/221.342/221.467 ms

Not so sure what you mean by no WiFi 6, it is backwards compatible with WiFi 4/5/6. Just got no 6GHz band support. This is common for all China version of WiFi 7 router (no 6GHz support, no 320MHz channel bandwidth support, with MLO support, with 4096 QAM support).

I do not recommend going with Xiaomi BE3600 because of the low 256MB RAM. But if you really want to go for the absolute low cost and if you do not have many devices, you can go with it.

For simba speedtest.. Choose malaysia digi servers.. Can get 1.5 to 1.8gbps for wireless if yr phone and router support wifi 6... I can't get good speed for local servers.. Dun know why.. The last local server is GSL server... But this server is no more in speedtest.

Interesting info. It could be poor peering of SIMBA to other local ISPs.

Could you post SpeedTest data for different local ISPs' Ookla SpeedTest servers (eg: SingTel, Starhub, M1 and VQ) and then Digi in Malaysia? Thanks.

If the CCTV camera is old and need public IPv4 address (eg: need to use port forwarding), then it will not work.

For newer CCTV cameras, it should work as they do not require public IPv4 address. Usually they will use an app through cloud proxy.

Just did a quick Google search, it is said Eufy cameras will work behind CGNAT (SIMBA is using CGNAT).

If the CCTV camera is old and need public IPv4 address (eg: need to use port forwarding), then it will not work.

For newer CCTV cameras, it should work as they do not require public IPv4 address. Usually they will use an app through cloud proxy.

Just did a quick Google search, it is said Eufy cameras will work behind CGNAT (SIMBA is using CGNAT).
thank u so much

I think as of now, for those Simba early adopters, more time is spent on tinkering with Simba broadband than actually using it for productive work. Early adopters are running speed tests after speed tests, configuring 2.5Gbps routers, trying out whether CCTV camera works, calling Simba helpline, etc. Some people like to experiment, some don't. LOL!
