I'm currently using a few different IOT host, likes of Smartlife, Xiaomi, Google Home, Tmall Genie. If on Simba, how does it work? My surveillance cam is on Xiaomi, IOT devices on Smartlife and Google Home.

The cameras/ devices usually cannot do it, you need to consolidate their feeds to a capable NVR or surveillance system like the Surveillance Center app on Asustor NAS.

My particular setup is a BlueIris running on a PC. So the Zerotier is running on the PC and the remote viewer is piped thru this sdn connection.

I'm only exposing the security cam tho, no need to admin the house from ouside. For your other IOT stuff it would need to be packaged together thru something like Home Assistant

For tailscale , you can simply Set up a subnet router to access inbound to those devices:

But this only solve half of the equation for cloud based devices as itself need outbound p2p nat traversal hole punching capability to advertise its services...

too technical

In that case, just avoid SIMBA if you have requirements to access home network from outside.

Tailscale (or Zerotier or similar) is more for more technical oriented people. It can be used as a workaround for CGNAT users who want to access home network from outside, but it may not sort out of all issues with CGNAT.

Thank you. I'm still considering options, partly is because to reduce cost. But ever since Simba launched it's fibre. i've seen other ISP reducing their prices. My current M1 have been serving me well so far, hence if IOT doesn't work well with Simba CGNAT, i might continue with M1 then.

But question, if Simba has Static IPv4 or provide IPv6, means IOT devices might work better? Like you mentioned, media streaming use cases is fine with me, 1gbps is good enough and if Simba can give 2.5gbps, that's a plus. But recently i added lots of IOT devices at home hence need it to work.

Thank you

I believe Static IPv4 add-on should be able to sort out the issues with CGNAT for your use case (IoT devices). That is what MR/VQ are doing. Both MR and VQ use CGNAT and not providing IPv6.

As for IPv6, it may help for some IoT devices but I believe it may still have issues.

It is probably better stay with M1 for your use case.

BTW, if you want to upgrade, Starhub 2Gbps at S$39 per month (dual 1+1 Gbps plan) and 5Gbps (you can choose either ONR or ONT) at S$45 per month may be a good option.

thanks. I think for now M1 is better for my use case.

Also, I would rather have 2.5gbps than 1+1 gbps. I have supported router and devices that support 2.5g. So probably i'll keep my eyes on any development from m1 now.

How is the starhub 5gbps plan like? I would like to use ONT that is not CGNAT, that i can use for my IOT devices

You can choose to go with ONT for Starhub 5Gbps and Starhub is using dynamic public IPv4 address and /64 IPv6, just like M1.

By default, Starhub 5Gbps comes with all-in-one XGS-PON ONR (10G capable, with wireless AX6000). But you can request to change to XGS-PON ONT (then you need to get your own router) at the physical shop.

If you do not have 10Gbps capable router, you can actually use Starhub 5Gbps plan as a true 2.5Gbps plan.

Depends on your needs and config. I am on m1 1+1 recently only. 2 separate routers, 1 to serve living room and 1 for bed rooms. My phones auto switch between both routers to give me the best connection and speed. Quite happy with the results.

trying the figuring out how this starhub 5gbps works, is it true 5gbps or 2.5+2.5?

For those who plan to subscribe to Simba Broadband, you may want to take this NDP coupon. But must go to SIMBA Service Center.

Contract with M1 over since Feb 2024 and wanted to sign up with the SIMBA BB, but sadly still not available at my place of residence and no new location added for many months...

I think it's a good thing they let you know they are not ready to take on a large user base at the moment. Better than after you signed up and realised the service is not up to scratch.

i feel they should at least show a roadmap of the estates to be covered and est by when, such that it is easier for consumers to plan their bb decisions
