As mentioned, only M1 and MR have 1Gbps plan to new users now. So let's wait and see if they will still provide 1Gbps plan in 2026 (no need to wait for 2028).
It will still be there.

Minimum 1gbps plan for low income families.

I was talking about no frills plan (no router or basic1Gbps router at best as of now). ISPs will always offer better wireless routers at higher monthly cost.

In 2025/2026, WiFi 7 routers price will drop significantly.

Just an example from VQ: they offer different router for their 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plans.

If you notice those 10gbps routers only got 1 or 2 ports.

The world is not ready for 10gbps yet.

We all know that. As mentioned, even the minister does not know the use cases now, just prepare for the future.

Many users may have zero or at most one 10Gbps device ( just for SpeedTest to feel happy only), initially...

But in the future, WiFi 7 capable devices will get more popular and they can go above 3Gbps on the 6GHz band, then 5Gbps/10Gbps internet link become necessary, if only for wireless SpeedTest, initially...

As what the expert says in the following article.
https://www.straitstimes.com/tech/s...-upgrade-national-broadband-network-to-10gbps

Mr Sam Fenwick, who is the principal analyst for connectivity analytics company Opensignal, said that it could be some time before technology that can fully utilise speeds of 10Gbps becomes mainstream.

Most users today are unlikely to require massive speeds unless they deal with high-definition video or large graphical assets, or download lots of heavy files, said Mr Fenwick.

He said: “Developers typically work to produce applications that require technical parameters that are fairly easy to achieve with technology that’s currently in widespread use.

“This means that Singaporeans may have to wait for much of the rest of the world to catch up before new applications that require 10Gbps connections come along.”

Bro, 10GbE the ports generate alot heat wan, at 2.5GbE already warm warm liao ok... That itself is something to think about using AOC liao apart from what i imagine being similar to enterprise if really want to use the 10GbE till smoke come out?

I'm not ready for >$5 economy rice also, but it's happening.
Low income families will appreciate <$3 economy rice more. But the price won't go down I guess?
My sentiment exactly. Watching the bottom line only, not really interested in having higher fixed cost

1. There is a base cost from NLT, so S$18.90 per month for 500Mbps plan is not possible.
As for 1Gbps at S$26.90, WC 2.5Gbps plan is already at S$21.80 per month.

2. Down the road (say 2025/2026), I see price will be similar to now but with faster speed.
About S$30, now for 500Mbps (M1) no frills plan, future you will get 2.5Gbps or 3Gbps.
About S$40, now for 1Gbps, future you will get 5Gbps no frills plan
About S$50, now for 5Gbps plan, future you will get 10Gbps no frills plan.
Then WC (S$21.80 for 2.5Gbps) and SIMBA (S$29.9 for 10Gbps) will have lower cost.

3. A bit further down the road, say in 2027/2028, 10Gbps no frill plans may be at around S$40.
I tiagong 1x 1:24 residential connection from NLT lease $12 or $13 $15 a month only to the ISP.
Or isit i go find the ICO pdf in imda site...

1gbps already can fry my wifi router.

Lucky I using 500mbps never put much stress on my wifi router 🤣

Hello, i understand business will benefit, but i am asking how families will benefit?
I already written in the post, things like medical and VR are some examples that families will benefit. Imagine if you are wheelchair bound and able to tour the world without leaving your home. Ability to work from home for some role.

I asked exactly these questions a few months ago.

Now I understand the point, to realize 10Gbps is meaningless, you need to understand a bit of networking. But many people doesn't know enough to realize that, so it's 99% marketing and 1% truth.
It's a lunch that nobody understands what they are eating. So they can only market it as buffet and super buffet lo.

Which is why Simba was promoting 2.5G plan when 2G plans are marketed as 2x better than 1G but actually not. So now Simba has to quickly shift to 10G plans, as 2.5G is only 1/4 as flashy as 10G plans.
So it's never about use case. It's only about competition and money.

This is the explanation of the stage we are in now, 10Gbps is not for everyone, it is for the innovators aka people with money to burn to do stuff they have interest in, think all those horrible AI physical devices like rabbit. The government stepping in to push down the price is just accelerating it to the early adoptors. So beside bragging right what else you get? You get to try all the cutting edge application that will get developed in the coming years.
It is like driving a supercar to a toyota in a jam packed road, it is pointless until the highway is built but even if it is built it might not go to places you want to go. People still drive them right? Everyone have their own pareto efficiency, for me 1Gbps I will pay max 45, 2Gbps maybe 55, 10 Gbps, maximum 65. On the other hand I rather have 1Gbps from 1 provider and 1 Gbps from another provider and probably pay up to 65 for that configuration despite lower speed because I favour better routing and reliability. Obviously everyone value view point is different so upgrade when you find value. Those early adoptor is the reason why you get lower price later.

The marketing and price anchoring got you already.
If 10gbps=super car, why Simba super car cheaper than other brands normal car? Does it still qualify for a super car?

If you see the ISP comparison thread, the lower latency MR business line looks more like a super car to me. Then the 10gbps plan to me seems more like a truck, it only costs more but not faster. Maybe it'll come in handy if you move house everyday.

The price won't drop because of early adopters, it'll drop when Simba gets enough market share.

Reliability is indeed the most important thing. That is why I do not recommend SIMBA (unless used as a secondary ISP) as of now due to unproven stability.

Routing is also very important. But it depends on the use case. Singtel is perfectly fine to me (no gaming, China contents are important, etc) but may be very bad for people like @Mach3.2. And you can not expect all the best routing from consumer ISP plans.

Achievable speed is actually not that important once above 1Gbps, at least for most of the people.

But just to be able to carry out OOkla Speedtest at higher than 1Gbps (LOL that is the only use case I need > 1Gbps), I just subscribed to Singtel 5Gbps plan at S$49.90 per month (installation date is on 28 August 2024 as Singtel seems to be busy). I am anyway buying stuff to prepare for 5Gbps plan recently. So this is a natural step for me. I usually use this kind of upgrade to force me to learn new things. Learn becomes the main motivation and use case in the end.

I need to take some risks here to bet that I can bridge the ZTE F8648P ONR by following the below guide.

Do you all know your wifi routers will run very hot with higher bandwidth plugged in even when it is not in use ?

It is very inefficient ..

500mbps is better.

Actually the pricing is lower now as pointed by @Mach3.2 recently.

But still it is tough for the ISPs to come with any plans below S$20. WC 2.5Gbps plan at S#21.8 (including 9% GST) will likely be the lowest plan in the forseable future.
From a unit cost perspective i cannot disagree that price to consumer has reduced drastically,
$19 (?) for 300M then to today's $30 for 10GbE @Mach3.2

After all i guess I'm just not willing to spend more than i can consume since there isn't any real improvement since then, apart from the sticker speed and per unit cost as mentioned that's supposed to reduce dissonance...
As residential internet services become more of an utility rather than a luxury there's gotta be a floor somewhere soon
