Unlikely. More likely is that M1 will get rid of 500Mbps for new users soon. For existing 500Mbps users, either they keep you in the same plan for the same price, or at best they may give free upgrade to 1Gbps at the same price (S$30.45 per month).

For reference, Starhub has got rid of the 500Mbps for new users. But for existing users like I, they keep the same S$30.45 per month pricing for the legacy 500Mbps plan. Back in 2018 or 2019, they gave free upgrade to some 500Mbps users (out of contract) to 1Gbps (but keep the same S$29.90 per month pricing --> with GST increase, it becomes S$30.45 now).

Now Starhub has got rid of the 1Gbps plan as well (except Homehub+ 1Gbps plan), same for Singtel. But now Starhub offers 2Gbps plan at S$39, same for M1 2Gbps plan. Singtel offers 2Gbps plan at either S$39.90/S$39.95 per month or S$42.90 per month, basically the same as the existing 1Gbps plan.

As there is a base charge from NLT at S$13.80 per month (regardless of the plan), it is hard for ISPs to offer S$20 per month plans. WC 2.5Gbps plan at S$21.80 will be lowest cost plan in the forseable future, now that SIMBA has raised the 2.5Gbps plan to be the same as 10Gbps plan at S$29.99 per month (but waived NLT and ONT charges, unlike previous S$21.80 per month 2.5Gbps plan where they charge for ONT and NLT charges).
Same price at 1gbps, I also ok.

But more likely 1gbps will drop price lower than $30 since another 10gbps tier is coming out

I will say unlikely for M1 to offer 1Gbps plan below S$30. They may simply get rid of 1Gbps plan and offer same price to go for 2Gbps. At best they may offer 1Gbps plan at S$30.45 like the current 500Mbps plan.

Even more unlikely for MR.

ST/SH/VQ/WC/SIMBA have no more 1Gbps plan for new users, except SH Homehub+ 1Gbps plan.

Down the road in 2026 or latest 2028, I believe there will no more 1Gbps/2Gbps plans.

My guess in 2028:
Basic 2.5Gbps / 3Gbps/5Gbps plans --> S$30 to S$35 range (WC --> S$21.80 per month, lowest in town, if it survives)
Basic 10Gbps plans --> S$40 to S$45 range (SIMBA --> S$29.99 per month, lowest in town, if it survives)
25Gbps plans for high end users --> S$55 to S$65 per month, high end offering

i think the telecos dont really value customers out of contract. unless they really want to get rid of the 500mbps system all together, maybe theres a law that isp need to provide the user a new network hence the upgrade.

maybe signing for new 24months is different. but now seem like the telecos still not yet feeling the pressure

I believe they going to throw in freebies and routers and jack up prices loh.

10gbps how can just offer the line itself. Sure will put in 10gbps wifi router and make it $40+ or $50+

Their technical support will headache with calls complaining about speed if they dun provide wifi routers

Original NLT pricing is S$15 per month for typical split ratio of 1:24..

New NLT pricing is S$13.80 per month for typical split ratio of 1:24.

Even with S$13.80 per month pricing, I tend to think it is difficult for the local ISPs to offer anything below S$20 per month.
Thanks for updating my info

of course, no choice mah
We paid $112.27 for the ONT charge & NLT setup fees.
12 mths / $31.16 mthly
24 mths / $26.48
36 mths / $24.92

Used to pay $30.18 mthly M1 500mbps
SIMBA 2.5gb range 700mbps - 1Gbps (86U router)

Have to stick to the $21.80mthly fees for at least 36 mths for < avg $25 mthly.

can’t find the original 2.5gbps T&C.
Wonder whether they can raise the price of $21.80 to $29.90 after 1yr.

cos unlike the current t&c of 2.5gbps we paid $112.27 for the ONT & NLT fees.

even if we paid $21.80 if force to upgrade to $29.90.
The earlier adopters or supporters will lose out.
+ setup fees our cost is ard $31.16mthly with gst, compare to current 2.5/10Gbps $29.90 (include gst, no setup fees)

Edit: No reason for early adopter to upgrade to $29.90. You will be paying extra (cos of the original setup/NLT fees) on top of the $29.90.
Think you dig your documents for their CIS or ask them for a copy corresponding to your purchase date. They cannot dun have it

2. SIMBA website -- not yet updated.
https://support.simba.sg/hc/en-us/articles/26549153153049-How-to-sign-up-to-SIMBA-Broadband

1) SIMBA 2.5Gbps Broadband is available to selected residential addresses in:
Central: Bishan, Beach Road, Holland Village, Novena, Tiong Bahru and Toa Payoh
East: Changi, Loyang, Pasir Ris, Simei and Tampines
North East: Serangoon
West: Beauty World, Boon Lay, Clementi, Jurong and Tengah
2) SIMBA 10Gbps Broadband is available to selected residential addresses in:
East: Bedok, Eastwood, Eunos, Geylang, Macpherson, Joo Chiat, Katong, Kew Drive, and Upper East Coast

However, it is advisable to enter your postal code to check the availability of service addresses.
When does the promo end? For free activation and ONT.

I only care abt the pricing. I don't host and download files often. As long as Simba able to provide decent service w/o outage I will join them once my contract with m1 end. Will be using 1gbps router for now so speed doesn't matter. I will wait for more affordable 10gbps router as the current offering is just too expensive with little use case.

1. No idea about the end date for free NLT and ONT charges, you can check with SIMBA.

2. I tend to believe the ONT will be free from now on, just like other ISPs. As the waived NLT Service Activation fee worth $61.04, I believe that is a temporary promotion item, same for other ISPs.

3. There is no much confirmation of SIMBA stability of the 2.5Gbps plan, let alone the 10Gbps plan. So proceed at your own risk and YMMV since you can not say that SIMBA will for sure be able to "provide decent service w/o outrage".

You may want to consider WC 2.5Gbps plan as it is stable. The S$21.80 per month pricing is likely the lowest in the next few years unless it raises the price later.

That being said, this is just my personal opinion. It is your money and you should decide.

4. Previous post mentions about the higher average price of the old 2.5Gbps plan.

Paid $112.27 for the ONT charge & NLT setup fees.
12 mths / $31.16 mthly
24 mths / $26.48
36 mths / $24.92

But if we did not count the temporary NLT change waiver promotion (future 2.5G/10G plan users may not get the waiver either), the calculation will be a bit different.

12 mths / $31.16 mthly --> S$26.07 monthly
24 mths / $26.48 --> S$23.94 monthly --> still no confirmation this will be honored as the contract is 12 months
36 mths / $24.92 --> S$23.22 monthly --> still no confirmation this will be honored as the contract is 12 months

2 x 10gbps ports
4 x 1gbps ports

Most routers now are 10gbps in and out .. total 2 ports.
The rest are 1gbps unless buy 10gbps switch to further the connections but will be very expensive.

World is not ready for 10gbps yet.

1 point of anecdata: my simba has been stable since activation in march. West coast. 2.5g. Not particularly heavy user or gaming.

Realised something. I'm currently using Whizcomms.
When I tried to click Simba broadband signup, the page won't load. Both Chrome and Firefox same.

Tried connecting via VPN it works, can go to sign up page. But will have issue using Singpass verification.

Tried mobile hotspot (Simba mobile) it works as well, can go to signup and proceed.

ISP purposely blocking competition website?

Maybe. You using default isp dns maybe they block loh.
That is why I don't like to use default isp dns.
Default isp dns is so lag when browsing overseas websites and they may use your browsing habits as marketing incentives.

Try and use google or cloud dns and see if you can still view ..
If you using wireless router, the dns can be configured there with 1.1.1.1

This is how I configure in my Asus router

Can you change the ISP DNS if you're using ONR?

The change will have to be done on every individual device right?

Change it in your wireless router. It will be default for all your devices.

You cannot change anything in your ONR.

It won't work if you change on every individual devices because DNS server is controlled in your wireless router

Being expensive is not a product's problem, it's your problem.

Anyway even enterprise routers are configured in such way. Two 10Gbps ports and a bunch of 1 or 2.5Gbps ports.

It's hard to cool the router when you equip too many 10Gbps ports on it, plus they can also sell a separate 10Gbps switch which means profit for them.

Also nobody is stopping you from connecting a 1Gbps router to a 10Gbps ONT. Simba is still cheaper than what many are paying for 1Gbps now.

It is like in the past routers dun have full 1gbps ports and mainly 100mbps ports.

The world is not ready and devices are made expensive because of this.

See how quickly these devices will become cheap when 10gbps is ready and data prices will drop further.
