Then I tell u I dump Giga to TPG and I don’t have to use their app for calling leh. And by the way, do you use more than 10 outgoing sms per month.

I am not saying Tpg is better but Giga may not necessarily serve everyone’s need. I have a friend who stays at Watercove (near Sembawang) and his starhub/Giga is unable to connect most of the time and once he changes to M1, he can receive and make calls with no issue, despite there are so many complaints on M1.

it is all dependent on areas and many variables like what other forumers have mentioned.

I m a bit confuse when checking the FAQ. Just want to confirm, the billing of TPG SIM-only plan is postpaid or prepaid? i.e. payment need to be paid before or after the next subscription period starts?

For example, if subscription period from 25-Jan-2022 to 24-Feb-2022, what is the due date for payment? Before 25-Jan or after?

(The FAQ seem to indicate it is pre-paid, i.e. pay first before use)

Thanks

IMHO.
Just take it as prepaid.
The online system like have limitations e.g. I cannot combine 2 number into one account.
So I think unlikely they will deviate from their original payment method i.e. prepaid.

In the FAQ, they have this statement - Plan renewal will be billed on Day 26 (4 days before the end of the cycle)

Just to update everyone in the TPG thread, I have recently switched to Giga.

The Giga data speed is much higher. Giga 4G is actually faster than TPG 4G+.

The following are the speed test results conducted at the same location:

Giga 4G
Download: 136 Mbps
Upload: 35.1 Mbps

TPG 4G+
Download: 74.3 Mbps
Upload: 2.97 Mbps
IMHO.
That's very good speed for TPG.
TPG speed at my location is not fantastic

Singtel 4G+
Down 121 Mbps
Up 39.6 Mbps

TPG 4G
Down 2.49 Mbps
Up 1.23 Mbps

The Giga phone call uses VoLTE. In other words, it's directly from the phone, and it's VoLTE quality.

Unlike TPG, which have to use the TPG voice app, and the calls are made using data.

Data call versus VoLTE call. Obviously the VoLTE call is clearer and more reliable.

The SMS, Giga give 500, TPG only give 30.

I switched over to Giga when Giga was promoting their "50GB for $18 forever" pop-up plan. For only $8 more, can get a much better phone service, really worth it.

To be honest, $18 still okay, cuz last time I was with Singtel, and I was paying $25, although I forgot how much data allowance already. Probably 50 or 60GB.

I mean, Singaporeans are too particular about the price already, until so particular about a few dollars difference.

Do consider Giga if they have their "50GB for $18 forever" pop-up plan again.

Past a certain point, the only relevance of speed test results is epeen flexing.

Even at 74.3 Mbps, that's more than enough bandwidth to stream 2 concurrent UHD movies on Netflix. Maybe your use case is a little different to mine but I've never found a need to do that on my phone. So even if Starhub/Giga is theoretically faster, it's irrelevant because there is nothing I (or most people) do on mobile devices that require that much bandwidth or speed.

More SMS? Even the 30 TPG gives is probably 25 more than I have ever needed in a month...

So if you're happy to pay $8 more per month for speed you will never use, & SMS you will never use, great for you!

The $10 SIM-only plan is available either as a pre-paid or post-paid option. No real difference between the two as far as I can tell. If new line, I'll just pick post-paid. If porting over, then depends on whether you porting a pre-paid or post-paid number.

Mobile internet is shared.
Content consumption aside, the upload speed is important when the number of users increases.

Just hope TPG actually deploy Machine Learning techniques to dynamically reallocate TDD-LTE downlink-uplink timings to suit demand. That's for Band 40.

FDD-LTE is fixed (because it's two diff frequencies), so the solution is more deployment. That's for Band 8.

My experience seems to indicate their bandwidth allocation favors areas with high footfall e.g. malls and not areas with low footfall despite many users - hdb blocks

"The following are the speed test results conducted at the same location"
--- not a good way to compare. Do you know where is the base station? if you happened to test it near TGP base station, then TPG is better, if you happened to test it near Giga base station, then Giga is better. The better way to test without knowledge of base station location is to run tests at hundreds of random locations.

"The Giga phone call uses VoLTE. In other words, it's directly from the phone, and it's VoLTE quality."
-- TPG also use VoLTE if your phone can support it.

Data call versus VoLTE call. Obviously the VoLTE call is clearer and more reliable.
-- not necessarily true. calls using data could be better the volte.

By the way, the post you made sounded like from salesman with bad technical knowledge.

If port in as pre-paid, will that affect eligibility to port out to other mvno in the future as not all mvno allows prepaid to be port over?

Anyone uses those top up services on shopee to top up the credit wallet? Is yours a prepaid or postpaid for that to work? Somewhat confused about the process.

The only mvno that supports prepaid is TPG. There's no other prepaid mvno you can port to.

Thanks, that makes it easier to decide. Anyone knows is it possible to sign up new line and then submit port in request after 1-2 weeks using the app or contacting customer service? Instead of port in within 24-48hrs.

Tbc, you can generally only port pre-paid to pre-paid, post-paid to post-paid. So if your current number is a post-paid number, you can only port to the $10 post-paid plan. Similarly, if it is a pre-paid number, you can only port to the $10 pre-paid plan.

Those top-up on shopee are only for pre-paid plans. Post-paid plan requires a credit card that they can charge to each month.

Porting is only available at sign-up.

Those top-up on shopee are only for pre-paid plans.

AFAIK, this is wrong info.

Those TPG top up on Shopee -- CAN BE used to top up your TPG post paid plan's account balance.

All TPG post paid plans have a wallet which TPG calls "account balance". See TPG's FAQ page.

You can top up to this TPG account balance -- which can then be used (to pay) for post paid plan renewal or IDD calls or excess usage charges etc.

TPG post paid plan renewal (every 30days) -- will deduct from this TPG account balance FIRST (if got sufficient money there).

If not enough money in your TPG account balance, then TPG post paid plan renewal will proceed to deduct from your credit card / debit card.

I've been using 3rd party providers like those on Shopee -- to top up my TPG post paid account balance (from which TPG later deduct for renewal of my TPG post paid plan every 30days). :)

Tbc, you can generally only port pre-paid to pre-paid, post-paid to post-paid.

Currently, in Singapore:

(1) Port telco A prepaid to telco A post paid -- CAN
(2) Port telco A post paid to telco B post paid -- CAN
(3) Port telco A prepaid to telco B prepaid -- CAN
(4) Port telco A post paid to telco A prepaid -- CANNOT

If you want to port prepaid to post paid -- i.e. port from Big 3 telco's prepaid to any MVNO or TPG's $18 post paid or TPG $5 senior plan-- of course can, just do step (1) then later step (2).

If want to port prepaid (from the Big 3 telcos) to TPG $10 post paid, TPG can help you combine steps & do a cross port from your current prepaid to TPG $10 post paid -- visit TPG service centre at Kaki Bukit or Orchard Central.

(For more info on port-in to TPG, see TPG FAQ page, section D. Port-In)

Also, see posts #2119 and post #2125 in this thread.

Hope the above helps.

From my personal experience just recently.

Port from M telco prepaid to M telco postpaid - can, pay $30 admin fees
Port from M telco prepaid to T telco postpaid - can, 1day, $0 fees.
