IMHO.
I think no one will put base station side by side. Base station can be put further a part e.g. half connect to one and the other half connect to another. Your wifi router example is not really valid.

IIRC, my previous testing when things first began, download was limited to 30. Sharing 30 vs 100, there is a lot of difference.

I am trying to highlight that 4G and 5G data operate under a similar concept as WIFI. The limit is 1Gbps or 10Gbps and that speed has to be shared with a lot more people. The base station has a capacity of 1Gbps or 10Gbps and will have to cover a larger area compared to a WIFI router, so if more people start using 4G and 5G networks as personal WIFI, the speed will be affected.

https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-fast-is-5g/

There is always a limitation on how close the base stations can be positioned. If the radius coverage already has a good signal, there is no point adding another set because the same bandwidth will be used and it is the airwaves causing the limitation which means high-density residential areas like having 5 to 10 blocks of 40 to 50-storey flats, there is only that much one could do. And since Simba got awarded only a small n1 5G band, they probably cannot even hit 10Gbps with any equipment, one article says that even combining n1 with NSA, their limit is only 250Mbps and must be shared among users within the equipment coverage.

APGT sucks even by local Taiwanese standards

I would only use it as backup. The big 3 telcos have stores in Taoyuan Airport anyway and the plans are not very expensive.
My friend is currently in Taiwan. And I just finish video call with him for almost an hour. Meeting.

Applied a new number from overseas, downloaded eSIM, and installed, all ok, but I couldn't see my phone number under General Settings -> Phone. It's blank, and doesn't allow me to even enter anything (grayed off). I am using iPhone 15. Anyone has similiar issue? Thanks
My iPhone also had same issue as what your are facing. However, the phone number showed up 2 days after eSIM activation and the iMessage also working thereafter. All took place just last week. Hope yours will be the same.

You can say they operate on the same concept. The situation is whether the backbone is limited.

E.g I have 5Ghz Wifi connected to a 1Gbe. I can only be as fast as my backbone connection i.e. if I have 200 Mbps broadband, that is as far as I go.

So the question is, do u know if TPG is giving users which limit ?

Of course u cannot place the base station too close. But base station can be directional.

For tall buildings, it is not so much as jow much one can do... it is the cost.

So far in my area, it is always lower 2 digits, never see 2xx.

From the base station onwards, it gets connected to the optic fibre network similar to how ISP leased the capacity from Netlink, so there won't be a problem with the backbone, at least not in Singapore. After that, once the traffic gets out of SG, it depends on each ISP's access to the interconnector cables below the oceans.

I don't think anyone in residential areas ever gets 2xx speed. Those high speeds are usually only possible when you are close to those cone-shaped repeaters dangling from the ceiling or in areas where there are very few users. My side is the same, high-density residential area with full signal 4G+, max speed is around 25Mbps, then when I moved to a low-density estate, those 10 to 12 floors flats, the speed gets up to 40 to 50Mbps. So they probably capped the speed depending on how many users are within a base station coverage range.

5G for Simba is nothing more than a bonus. In the first place, they aren't supposed to have 5G, thus the 5G they have now is a 5G without the top-end 5G speed, it just shows you the 5G logo and perhaps improves latency. Back in 2019, the IMDA auction was to build two nationwide 5G networks which is why M1 and Starhub need to form a JV or either one of them will be without a 5G network. All the big 3 Telco priced the 5G n78 spectrum on the basis that there will only be two such high-speed networks. The bid terms should have some sort of agreement on how long they have a monopoly on the high-speed 5G network and until that time comes, there will not be a similar high bandwidth spectrum to be put on auction that could create another new nationwide high speed 5G network to compete with the first two. For IMDA, they have enough spare spectrum at the n78 band to double the capacity, because almost half is not allocated. The n1 spectrum they throw out can never compete with n78, so the old Telco won't complain while the new one can show its customers that the 5G logo is on the phone.

Noted that the speed is 1/10 or 1/5 of your so call possible max speed of 250.
If what you say is true, they cap based on users in the location. 🤣

FAQ said need to go down to their office physically to get a new QR code for $5 when you change phone. I am ready to pay $5, but I am overseas and won't come back that often, anyone tried to email them and get a QR code instead? Otherwise, I probably have to port out to somewhere and then port back in, very troublesome.

BTW, I use SIMBA because it allows free incoming calls from Singapore, it's very useful when staying overseas. Furthermore, it has 1GB free roaming, also useful when I travel.

Simba after 5G upgrade is now so fast at my own house.

Simba 120Mbps
StarHub 100Mbps
M1 30Mbps
SingTel 5Mbps

Simba also fastest at my workplace (the rest all 3G/no signal). Huat ah

You probably would need to define what is your "fast speed".
Slow can be fast to some and vice versa.

ah yes, these box one look like wifi, and are usually faster than the cones one.

These are the other ones. The glossy round one spotted alone.
simba-round.png

And this one, somehow need one more non-glossy round one right next to a box one, looks like the antenna is extended out from the box one. Not sure why.
simba-extend.png

China's design doesn't bother much about aesthetics, so the antenna points all protrude out and the unit itself might have another set of built-in antennas, nowadays all these are MIMO, so they can have many sets of antennas. Anyway, this is a Huawei product which I think Starhub also using for many years. In total, got 6 external antenna points, the same as the picture in the below article.

Me just back from china, so far network v good and fast enough for me for whatsapp, youtube, telegram etc..., 4G full bars throughout (I dont have 5G handset). Didnt do anything, just off airplane mode and on data roaming setting, APN set to TPG already
Note: Not using the superroam plan, just the normal plan with free 1GB

No need any VPN if you are data roaming, just use as per what you are doing in Singapore. Only need to use VPN if you use their local wifi or sim card. I never bother to use their wifi, just data roam throughout
