Each telco has a preference of telco in every country.
For e.g. malaysia
Singtel - Maxis
Starhub/M1 - CelcomDigi
Simba - Umobile
Only when you have zero signal for their preferred telco, then you can lock on to other telcos.

In both Android and iOS you can manually select your preferred roaming partner network if there's more than one available in your location with your plan's roaming arrangements. The manual network selection option is in your phone's settings. Your manual network selection may or may not be better than automatic network selection, but you can choose. For example, some roaming partner networks may support VoLTE for voice and SMS service, and some may not.

What problem r u facing?

Roaming in Malaysia on my samsung phone, after changing to the new 5g Sim card I think it always auto stick to Yes.. Which is very very very slow, even slower than simba in SG.

Jb KL all same.. It doesn't stick to celcom digi or umobile which like it does previously.

I have to manual fix to celcom digi. Then when switch back to auto, awhile later it will jump back to Yes. Whether I'm in jb or KL or on the highways all same, phone prefer Yes.

All these while even before changing to the new Sim, it always celcom or umobile which is fast speeds.

I have another simba prepaid Sim, which is very old sim card, in current phone, which auto sticks to umobile or celcom automatically no issues. Only my main line with the new Sim problem.

I didn't want to manual it because sometimes in lift or sudden underground, the network goes off and then my phone will ring say no network..

If set to auto, it will just auto latch onto any available ones..

Just that I hate it that it defaults prefers Yes instead of celcomdigi, which in my opinion has very good coverage. Better than umobile.

Has Simba's coverage at underground MRT lines improved?

The NSEW (old) lines really CMI in between the station when in underground

Not that I can feel... coverage/bandwidth underground is still poor.

So this is weird. I was not always checking which telcos it is using, but for the whole trip signal is no problem for me. Haha.

Just terminate the simba the $10 oversea usage after trying for my recent oversea trips.
The underground coverage totally cannot make it

telco can do steering, if i don't want you to roam on certain network i can do so.

as a telco i also can set e.g. 80% to maxis, 10% to celcomdigi, 10% to umobile

if 10% to celcomdigi is reached, even if you manual select to celcomdigi, you are not latching to the network

Login while in SG & leave it running in the background after QR generated...or take a pic of QR with another phone but still leave app running in the background.

I'm guessing your phone auto network provider selected to Yes as roaming provider like me.

Including simba? Maybe that's why I always get steered to Yes in Malaysia instead of the faster and stable celcomdigi or umobile.

yes... every single telco has a wholesale deal with each other operator in another country. e.g. SGD 0.50/GB for data. so they will have preference to steer to the operator they have the cheapest deal with.

if they do not have any deal with the operator, they will have to block the network.

just FYI, the default cost for data if there is no wholesale deal - can range from $1,000/GB to $10,000/GB depending on the country. e.g. singtel has some roaming partners/destinations that simba doesnt have, means simba doesn't have a deal with them and they have to block it.

I just realised something.

My friend who just signed up for simba senior, has 5G SA at my area, in the north east region.

But my normal $10 plan, doesn't have 5g SA. We are sitting side by side. I thought is my phone issue.

So I took his Sim card, put into my phone, and my phone shows VO5G and status is 5G SA. when switch to my own line on my phone, shows Volte and no 5G SA. Only NSA.

My Sim card has been exchanged to the new Sim... Not sure what's going on...

I've emailed simba, to ask why same phone with dual Sim on same phone, new sign up can have 5g SA with VO5G while existing line with newly exchanged 5g Sim card, only 5g nsa. They can't give my an answer. Only lousy replies like ask me screenshot my apn settings. Then tell me change my apn name to internet, and apn set as internet. Lol... The name of the apn doesn't matter only the apn itself..

thats because simba only has 10 mhz of band 1 for 5g sa while other telcos have 100 mhz of band 78 which is 10x bandwidth of simba thats why its slow
so change your phone settings to 4g only instead of 5g

Actually most of the time I have speedtest when connected Simba 4G+ or 5G . There seems little difference in download speed

Change setting 4G to or from 5G may not benefit much in Singapore
