BTW, if I am going to build a rig at PCT, how does the procedure go? Pay them full price, then come back in a while to collect?

Will they give you the invoice and boxes for all the components in case there's anything wrong need to RMA, etc?
Yup, you have to choose your parts, pay first, come back in 2 hours and collect. Boxes and everything will be given back to you

So far most talks and discussions about SLS shops are on DIY PC parts.

How about notebook computers? Any reputable shops that are honest and worth patronising? Without those GST tricks, passing off fake/gray/display sets as new, item swapping, or accessory pinching.

Or just buy from major retailers like Courts / Harvey Norman / Gain City / Best Denki?

Anyway, what I notice is that in SLS, shops selling notebooks are small with zero or little customers. Once a customer steps in, the 2 or 3 idling salesmen will stand up, swarm in and surround 1 potential customer, so not much room and time to browse casually and compare prices.

There is 1 thing i REALLY dislike about PCT.. it is their pricelist... it is barely readable both online and in print.. come on.. you got money to expand no money to print a proper pricelist? i'm sure the customers deserve a better pricelist than what you are giving now.. see already also quite turnoff.

I think the prob u highlighted only happens to the uploaded version. If u pick up a copy of their printed pricelist frm their shop, u would notice that the printing is very clear and even more reader-friendly than some other shops like Tradepac and Bizgram. And they dun put 'OFFER' to cover up prices. So u prob have to PM the person who does the pricelist uploads onto HWZ for a better online version.

true, sometimes hard to tell between 5 and 6. prefer to see the pricelist online before heading down to sls.

There always some bad shops in SLS. Even those got reputation, also not that good some time. Whereby small shops, they more customer oriented. Anyway, we dont go there to buy and buy. So, one time bad experience, dont ever go back again. One shop in SLS which I always go, Tec drome! heh heh! (Since 199X)

Techdrome staff are quite friendly.. Price wise will discount a bit if you use cash. They have been there donkey years btw and I bought quite a few things from them over the years.

I will recommend PcThemes too. Bought a gpu from them today. Don't know who's the yilong you guys keep mentioning, with that he's the only Chinese guy there. But I see a few Chinese guys there. Yilong should be the fat one with the squinty eyes. A very friendly & sincere chap.

Feel very confident dealing with the staff there, unlike other shops where you feel they are just superficial giving sales talk. Strongly recommended shop unless you really know your computer staff & want to take risks for slightly cheaper items. Actually they 2nd cheapest already, only that ah neh one can beat them but be prepared for crap with them.

Hi guys, just went to tradepac to build my first rig. Never diy a desktop before. Dont know how to assemble also. Just ask for a rig advise here and went down. Saw quite alot of ppls at tradepac building their rig too. Their service isnt that bad. They really does cut the price for you to match with other shops's offer.

For their sales tactics, they do tell me the psu I want is oos. however, I choose another brand. They say no stock too. I act reluctant to buy from them. Then, they say if I really want, they could find it. Tats all.

Other than that their price is really compeitive in SLS. They assemble the whole thing for me and return me the box and spare accessories. (I stated that I wan the box and spare accessroies cos I heard from other forumer that their spare parts was koped).

Very good services and reasonable price in my opinion.

Yeah. Is best value computers or something de. It doesn't matter in fact. If any hardware spoil, go to the respective distros, the receipt is still valid. i buy alot of my computer parts from TP very often..

Problem is even when they not oos, they will tell you it's oos to try to make you buy another item

Sometimes when they say OOS is to reco you something else for higher price when their store actually not OOS. Sometimes say OOS cause lazy take from upstair/downstair store. Somtimes if you firm, they will go their store/other shops take for you.

TP all sort of tactic, if don't want headache from these tactics, just go straight to PCT. Once the TP staff recognise your face & firm attitude, future purchases usually go smoothly with the typical sales tactics becoming less frequent or none at all. Source: my experience in dealing with them

If i just want to build a rig for just solely business. Dont need any good thing but just Point Of Sales transaction. A budget rig but durable, can i still go tradepac?

Cos i rmb i bought a rig 2 years ago from PCT.. but this time building a rig costing around $500 plus only. Dont know they will entertain me or not. :s13:

Moreover i don't wan to wait too long like 4~5hours for the pc to be fix.

Which shop would be better for me? How about Bell System?

Is it okay if i just tell them the budget to build the simple rig? Usually how long it will takes maximum?
