i did a re-contract for the 1Gbps fibre on Monday afternoon, when i went home found my internet down since down.
i am using 3rd party router from netgear.
router shows no internet traffic, icon is red.
called singtel support, they advised me to take the singtel router and try
my ONT is the old black one from ZTE.
using it since 2013 when i was on 500Mbps.
my previous plan was fibre unlimited

Your old plan (1Gbps Fibre Unlimited) does not need Vlan settings. And that is under the other thread.

Are you now changed to the normal 1Gbps plan? In that case you need to configure Vlan if using with ONT. You need to check with the Netgear site to see how to configure Vlan.

Interestingly they did not give you the Huawei ONR.

Did you get the AC1900,AC Elite or AC Plus? Supposedly now they only give AC Plus which is a downgrade from AC1900/AC Elite, AC Plus is only rated at AC1200.

And all of them only provide basic function. If you need more functionality you have to buy a new router with Vlan support to be used with the ONT.

He was not on this normal 1Gpbs plan previously. He got the 1Gbps Unlimited plan, no free router, no Vlan, no throttling, no SingTel TV, etc.

Now he changed to the normal 1Gbps plan with free router (since he did not get any free router previously), with Vlan, with throttling, possibility to add SingTel TV.

For us on the normal 1Gpbs plan you are right you will get free router when recontract only if the previous free router does not support the 1Gbps plan, eg, old 2-wire, Pace and some Aztech router models.

For new sign up of 1Gbps plan, ONR will be given (not free, need to return) and free wireless router (working in AP mode) will be given.

Hi nidoking_sg

Thanks for checking, our fibre team advised that you should use only Cat5e cables.

Let us know if you encounter any issues.

Does anyone know if Singtel fiber optic can only use cat 5 and 6 lan cable only?

One thing I don't like sadly the default Singtel modem , I still using the default 7200 model which given when apply 200 Mbps , and happy Singtel give free upgrade to 500 mbps

but one thing I don't like need to restart the modem , like once per week or worst after few days

than can the network will be ok come viewing stream.

The tech does claim the default modem not good . Best get the 3rd party one expensive one.

to me I " anything " fine with default Singnet given modem . I can confirm my modem is not not faulty use to get a tech come down he check for me , even I do a test on myself

is mORE like Sing net server side , i don't know ..

:)

SingTel network is very good. No problem. There is no 7200 modem. Check your modem model again. Is it Aztech 7002?

Anyway the tech support is correct, those old 2-wire , Pace and Aztech wireless router are rubbish. Better to upgrade if you want to avoid keep rebooting. No need very expensive ones, just one which support VLan function, can buy second hand ones also.

Edit to add: cheapest option is to buy from Carousell SingTel issued AC Plus, AC Elite or AC1900 wireless router, they are not great but at least much better than yours and cost is like S$20-40.

Hi I am having some issues with my Singtel Fibre network as I am preparing to get my Mio TV next week.

My Singtel Fibre setup is this:

ONT --> Asus RT AC87 U --> PC/Devices Etc

My ASUS RT AC87 U is on this ASUSWRT Merlin firmware: 384.7_2

I tried switching my Lan (IPTV) setting to Singtel Mio or Singtel Others, but for some strange reason I am unable to get an IP address from my WAN.

The error message is that the ISP DHCP Server does not function properly. However, when I change the Lan IPTV setting to none, I am able to get an IP address.

What is going on? Really confused right now.

TIA

My Singel 1GBPS Fiber B/B is eligible to recontract now. It is $49.90 for existing customer and $44.90 for new sign up! It is bias!!! Existing customer get nothing for recontract. Use back the aging ONT and router. Consider to switch over to M1 at $39/month.

you switch to m1, you'll need to wait for weeks to months for second port activation.

ONT/router are singtel's equipment. it doesn't make your money more worthwhile because they do not belong to you in the first place. If you have reasons to believe the aged equipments do not deliver the optimum 1gbps, then all the more its your right to get them replaced. But, are they really decrepit as of now?

I just checked, the current price for 1gbps is still 49.90 for new sign up, i wonder where you get the 44.90?

during christmas promo, indeed it was 44.90.

you can put a password to it if you would like to secure your router against any unauthorised access within your house.

for myself i will lock it down just in case people connect to my wifi without my knowledge, and that is when they are too free to hack the wifi passphrase i've set..

I was told by Causeway Point Singtel staff that $44.90 is for new sign up only. I did argue with him,for new sign up Singtel need to send technician to do the setup and provide brand new ONT / ONR and router and yet enjoy cheaper price. That's unfair. BTW, I am now using Linksys EA8100 router bought from carousel. The speed and coverage is better than the default AC1900.

Since you got your own router u can consider whizcomms $26 or M1 $29 plan.

market dynamics is always shaped in a way to entice new sign ups and more effort is put into it. Have you thought of moving to m1 and m1 does the same thing to you after 2 years? so you gonna hop around?

in fact, companies do that same thing including m1. I don't see m1 lowering their 1gbps lower than the $39 and it has been fixed for some times already. My suggestion is for you to reconsider what are your needs and your experience with singtel. if you think you can make do with the wait for the 2nd port activation and put up with the limitless delay, then you may go on and try out m1 for 2 years and then consider again when contract ends.

Since you're happy with EA8100, then you can continue using it, just like myself using velop for wifi coverage and so far, the singtel given router is kept in storeroom for rainy days..

I started off paying $39 for 200 Mbps broadband with a free n56u from m1 eventually they lowered the price to $29 (without a free router upgrade) over the years they gave a free dect phone and increased the speed to 300Mbps and to 500Mbps

$29 is the downgraded 500mbps plan, which i don't think is what been compared here.

OP wanted to pay less then what he/she paying atm which is $49.90 and since op already have his/own router the $29 plan is fine

just like myself using velop for wifi coverage and so far, the singtel given router is kept in storeroom for rainy days..

Does the velop support singtel vlans now?
