its crap. as usual, just a tactic they use.

yes, please update before heading down for servicing. this is to make things more convenient for yourself. some of the counter staffs know very little about handphones. they can even tell you things like your phone/battery spoil cus you never update firmware. so they'll insist on updating for you then you bring back the phone. if problem persist, then come back. ;)

May want to add in the 1st post FAQ

Q: Can I request for Singtel to keep the iphone sealed after I purchase it?
A: NO, it is company policy to break the seal of the iphone in front of you :s8::s8::s8:

Went to recontract just now @ Singtel comcentre, counter dude insisted that no matter what, even despite my offer of taking full responsibility of any missing/faulty contents, due to company policy, he had to break the seal :s8:

Also recontracted at Starhub today - world of difference - counter person thanked me for saving his time, no need to check thru the contents of box with me :s13:

seal broken, $10 loss

maybe to ensure u do not have a china iphone inside the box

$15 loss per broken seal when i did it last week ($935/920). Recontracted 2 lines from SingTel, so lost $30.

"Shhhiak! Shhhiak!" ... $30 gone immediately in the flash of an eye. Stupid Singtel staff!!! Even more heart pain than the "Teet!" - $1.50 gone from ERP. :s13:

I trust our telcos get their iphone stock directly from apple and not those 3rd party exporters, so shouldn't have risk of getting china phone sold as an iphone.

But then again ah, due to the recent spate of events - maybe now when you resell your sealed iphones the dealer will still unseal it anyway to check :s13:

hey guys, heard that now local telcos can check if u have jailbroken your iphone b4 cos' jailbreaking changes some dunno wad number of your iphone.
anyone heard any news like that b4? i'm thinking of doing a 1-for-1 exchange with singtel because of the insensitive home button.

Hi u went to change already? Mine also home button insensitive , jus curious if tell them home button insensitive , will they accept tis reason to exchange.
Mine is lk sometime double click , but it become single click.

found out its a common problem

@all

Currently signed up with M1 Value plan for iphone 4 but the thing is until now i don't have any signal at all. They said 3-5 working days to have fully activated. They give temporary micro sim can call and send sms but no data at all. It takes couple of day to have fully activated the sim itself.

I even called up the corporate plan to ask for this question, They said 5-7 working days to have fully activated the plan not included the weekends. Anyone also experience this currently sign for corporate plan.? Again, according to them it takes days to become fully activated for it. Right now, my micro sim already 4 days old i'll just wait couple of days to have signal for it. If not, I'm going to call them up. Thanks!

as long as your set is under warranty, any hardware/software fault that can't be solved with a software reset should warrant you a refurbished set.. you have to go to the CommCentre at near Somerset for the exchange..

things might be different if your LSI(liquid submersion indicator) turns up red, meaning it might have been subjected to water damage. or if you have done other mod to the hardware. they have the right not to honor your warranty in those cases..

there are many threads around already, just look/search around and you should be able to find your answer..

If your parts fall off like my 3GS volume button, you can ask for a replacement. However, do note that you won't get a brand new phone when the CSO give it to you. My "new phone" comes from a brown carton box, not from a brand new retail packaging.

I suspect Singtel gave me a refurbished set. How I know? There are dents around the plastic area at the bottom side, near the dock connector...if new phone, how come got dents right?

got dent? then you probably got cheated. Refurbished phone has to be completely new casing. Only the workable internal parts is replaced. Even the top glass shall be new.

When they pass to you, they will ask you to check if you're happy with it. If not they can change for you another one.

Quoted for awareness...all reburbished iPhone should look 'as-good-as-new'.

Meaning although you know it in your heart it's 2nd hand...it should not have any comestic defects like stratches/dents etc. Those internal parts they change are those faulty parts (e.g. previous owner speaker spoil so changed)...not exactly sure bout the glass though.
