Totally unable to sleep
You meant FFI? If you are referring to this disease, it’s extremely rare, and there is no proof stating prolong insomnia will eventually lead to this. Most people with insomnia are because of psychological related issue, this kind of post will make them feel even worst …

It’s better to go sleep clinic for checkup by specialist. To rule out any underlying issues. I suffer from chronic insomnia due to back pain and lung breathing issues. Have to take Valium for sleep. Only specialists will be able to diagnose the cause, might not be psychological in nature

The reason I quote you is because you state something which is totally untrue. But I am happy that you have find what is causing your problem, I went thru a period of insomniac episodes so I can relate.
Usually for pain related they will usually prescribe gabapentin, cause it “safer” I am surprised they gave you benzo

They give me gabapentin before for trial but my pain is not nerve related so doesn’t work. In the end only specialists have the ability to proper prescribed and diagnose

Mine was not pain related but was given neurotin, because their side effect will promote sleep, drowsiness and study support it promote deep stage sleep etc… a lot of drug are prescribed off label for insomnia, I was so desperate before and I had tried anti psychotics drug for my insomnia period but at low dose la
But a lot of doc will avoid benzo ..

As you get older, things that will help you to sleep also stop working.

Exercise
Piak piak
Massage

Trying out magnesium supplement, end up getting morning wood instead!

As you aged, I find it difficult to sleep through till daylight and not wake up middle of the night.

I have like to segregate it into two parts. Wake up 4:30am once, then go back and sleep a while more till 7am.

Think read something like sleep halfway wake up in the middle then go back sleep again isn't uncommon. Last time when people sleep early once its dark, its the norm. Now with many have poor sleep habit it becomes a problem of sort.

Think waking up around 4 is the norm for many. Just go back sleep more if don't feel like waking. Think some people the sleep cycle very short only. So, will wake up in between and then continue 2nd half of the sleep. Especially when sleep early.

Nowadays I feel sleepy when it's just 8 plus 9pm. Don't know if it's coz older now. Last time can sleep for 8 hours or more. Now if I go to bed earlier, I wake up after a few hours then cannot sleep. If I went gym or v tired from work, can sleep for only an hour or two hours more.

I try taking melatonin but don't really work after a while. Anyone like that also? Any suggestion?
Me too.
Sleep about 2 hours. Wake up. Sometimes can fall asleep again after a few hours . For about another 2 hours.
Mostly light sleep. Deep sleep usually about half hour or less

Sounds like a aimless rich man problem. Not tired enough from everyday work. No stress from work. No need to take care of aged parents. No need to take care of kids....

Get a girlfriend and you should get tired much more and fall asleep easily. Girlfriend became wife, more busy with buying properties, buying cars, then have few babies, have to wake up 3 times every night to feed babies...all your insomnia problem resolved.

Thank me later.

Same — as I get older, it’s really hard to get proper sleep.

Also, what I eat affects it a lot. I’ve noticed that if I have a high-sodium diet that day, I wake up feeling very tired and thirsty the next morning.

I just ordered some magnesium; hopefully it’ll help improve my sleep.
