Technically it should be possible to progress on led front using more zones with mini leds.
It all depends on how much one is prepared to pay...
The Sony Master series has hundreds of zones already, but they cost significantly more than the basic edge lit panels.
For the casual user, who doesn't care too much about picture quality, the increased cost is too much to swallow.

Yup, that's what Samsung is pursuing with their Neo QLED models.
Which is way too expensive and it’s not even worth paying for it with the picture quality being offered in their 2021 NEO series.

Well, the cost is right down to how Samsung segments their products.
For example, their best picture quality is reserved only for the top tier edition, which packs a whole lot of other frills. Once you move down the line, everything gets noticed down along the way.

This is different from LG's approach, also due in part to how OLED panels are, even their entry-level OLED panel offers great PQ at decent price point. How the top-end OLED and entry-level OLED panels differ is usually down to design choices and some feature frills. So you get to enjoy what matters most without paying too much if PQ is the only deciding factor. The same approach applies to Sony for the same reasons.

So I won't quite say the Neo QLED is not worth it because even the Q950T from last year was a very close call to what an LG/Sony OLED models can deliver -- pretty much in most cases other than black levels. As an overall product and package, Samsung offers other creature comforts, but it really depends if individuals appreciate them (or not).

I've yet to personally review the 2021 QLED Neo models, but if the Q950T was already good, this year's option can only be better.

Having said that, microLED options aren't far away - they are coming in the second half of this year and these could be game-changers.

Managed to hoot one 65X9500H at $2399 with free antenna.
Price is okay to me. 2 weeks old display set with 3 years warranty.

To everyone with 9500H, does it comes bundled with backlit remote?

If that's the top model and can rival the Master Series, it's a good price then.
Let's hope the street prices are less. They know what they are up against.
SG buyers are very price sensitive..

I'm keen to know what the 85" 95J costs and is it truly HDMI 2.1 compatible

That’s the thing. We have not seen the better tech cascading down and becoming mainstream over time, ie there had not been much progress. The latest master series led makes no mention of the backlight master drive. We can’t even tell if it’s better contrast wise when compared with the z9g. So I can’t really tell what upgrade path I should choose. Perhaps oled? but won’t be as bright.

That's why I'm happily using my Z9D...
The Master Drive was very costly to make and I think they don't want to go the way of Pioneer - best panels, but not enough buyers..

Yeah, bought and using that since 2018, and now I wonder what’s next. Microled is not going to be accessible any time soon. Oleds are okay but don’t think they are going to get much brighter for HDR. I was hoping dual cells would go mainstream but looks like that’s not happening. Z9d and z9g could be the pinnacles of lcd tv tech. And it’s downhill from there. Regression.

When I bought my 65X9500H from BD, the salesman told me that the X95J will only be available in 75” and bigger. There won’t be 55 and 65” for X95J.

Let’s see if it’s true.

Currently using 75" 80H series, don't think will upgrade for a couple of years.. Will probably wait for OLED prices to come down in future..

You can only compare A80J to A80H.
I supposed you meant A8H, which unfortunately do not come in 77” size.

The price of LG 77CX is very attractive now but Sony‘s seems to win in areas of shadow details and color (LG’s has that bluish tint to my eyes), and arguably motion.

Yes A8H. A80J is the upgrade to A8H. A90J is the upgrade from A9G. Which also explains why the A80J is priced lower.

Sony has the best picture and motion processing in the TV industry so yes, Sony OLED TV is still the best though not the cheapest.
