Thank you all for the advice.... I guess I'm headed for a Z5, just hope that the snapdragon 810 overheating issues are resolved.

don't get M4 Aqua. it's 2016 and that phone only has 8GB of internal storage.

M5 has decent specs but the shutdown problem is a shame.

for M4A, even if you're a super super light user who only Facebook, WhatsApp and surf net, you will definitely have no space for any games and any other bigger apps like Dropbox, Evernote, etc.

so yeah. if you have the money maybe you spend a bit more for a Z5? if die die is budget I'd rather you get a 2nd hand/brand new Z3.

or you can always get another brand... market is flooded with mid-range phones these days that are much, much better than M4A/M5
I have the M4 Aqua and agree 8GB internal storage is not enough. But it's much cheaper to just buy a 32GB microSD card than to buy an expensive Z5 for few hundreds more.

There are many features on Z5 that no one needs, and a new model will come out in 6 months time to obsolete it. Whereas the 32GB microSD card you can re-use on your next phone.

I encountered same issue with the M5 Dual and had tried many recommendations from the websites.

So far the only successful solution is to set the phone to GSM only (instead of LTE) and this prevent he phone from auto shutdown. However, I am not happy with this as I hv paid for a phone capable of LTE.
I just tried setting to GSM only and no shutdown so far. Just got upgraded to Android 5.1 today.

But after upgrading, the camera app stopped working. Error: The camera may be in use by another application. Please close the other application and try again.

Anyone encountered the same?

I just sent my M5 Dual to be admitted.

The staff was shocked to see it is Dual. And said is export set. No warranty. But she said the staff at service centre will go and verify. How sia? The staff photocopied my receipt.

They will go and check. If got problem with warranty, I will go CASE and file complain.

Not sure if this is helpful but apparently, and i quote from gsmarena

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_m5-reviews-7464.php

"So, I was having the same turn off problem. It suddenly turned off and had to connect to turn back on. I went into developer options under settings and took away every system screen transitioning effect. Now it runs faster, overheats less and never turns off. Apparently the cpu can't handle all the transitioning effects of the xperia lollipop interface."

Go to Settings>About Phone. Click a few times on the Build Number. That will brought out the Developer Options menu. Use with caution.

Hi all,

I'm facing phone shutdown issue with my M5, even on safe mode. :(
Anyone tried to do a software repair using PC companion or send in the phone for repair? Is the issue resolved?

I bought mine as export set too. I think all M5 Dual are export set and no local warranty.

I called the service centre and they have no stock for M5 Dual battery. I wanted to change the battery to fix the sudden death problem.

I'm still having the sudden death, even after upgrading to Android 5.1. Many people said the problem is due to bad battery design, but I called the Sony Service Centre and they don't keep stock of M5 Dual battery, because it's export model and no local warranty. So I can't replace the battery.

Now I'm getting camera not working.

Issue not resolved. Phone still dead when LTE signal lost. Gnn

Sent from my under armour de underwear using GAGT
Set to GSM only. Mine didn't shut down for weeks already. But can always replicate the problem when switched to LTE.

According to this site, the sudden death problem is due to sets manufactured before November 2015 - there was a problem with battery grounding, so the phone shuts down to avoid overheating. It can't be fixed. You have to replace the battery to v4, provided Sony Service Centre has stock for export set M5 Dual.

My field report for M5 Dual.

I waited for 9 days including weekends for my phone. They changed my battery for me.

Now ok liao. No sudden black out. My SD card can read too. If you scroll up, I mentioned the lady was shocked to learn is M2 dual Sim. Yes, it is covered under one year warranty. Good service from Sony. Thumbs up.

Yours no warranty? Confirm? Can't register in Singapore? Got IDA logo or not?

If change battery, how much they charge?
