That is the only way... AND assuming your phone supports 5G SA.
Stupid qns again because so far I was on 3G and now 4G only. If I request for new 5G simcard but then realise the 5G coverage is bad, how do I change back to 4G network? The 5G simcard is smart enough to auto detect best network available? Or I need to request downgrade back to 4G simcard???

So must purchase that 5G sim then can get 5G network?
Some mention existing 4G sim also can get 5g network also.

Existing giga 4G sim can only access 5G NSA (non standalone network) which is 5G tapping on existing 4G infrastructure.

Must change to new 5G sim card can access "true 5G" aka 5G SA network.

With the new 5G sim card, if 5G network coverage is not good, by right should it be smart enough to auto detect 4G??

For samsung, can go to mobile network settings to disable 5G. Then your phone will only connect to 4G and below.

Should have similar settings on other brands.

Hmm, just curious.

Registered for GIGA on 21st when i saw the annoucement for 5G and eSIM
I ported over to GIGA on Wednesday 22nd May from VIVIFI.
Till now, even going to town or starhub HQ at UBI also cant see 5G or detected 5G using app (opensignal).

Should i contact GIGA support and request to check if 5G was provisioned for my number or should i just wait?

Plan - 300GB 5G (18.33 SGD)
Phone - Oppo Find X5 Pro
There's a 5G wording on the SIM card and my phone is on their supported list

First time trying out 5G, so not sure if this is normal
