Just ported over to Giga last week, on 5G plan but so far only see 4G. Initially thought was my Iphone issue, change to Zym mobile or Singtel SIM card did not have any issue detecting 5G on the same phone. Contacted Giga CS & was advised it’s Iphone issue . Still waiting for their reply after tried to reboot, airplane mode, remove & re-insert SIM card but to no avail.
Giga 5G not supported on iPhone for the time being. U can see from their list of supported device on their website

iOS devices are currently not supported on giga's 5G today. We are working closely with our mobile device partner to enable your iOS device to be compatible with giga's 5G network. We will also be progressively updating with other compatible devices, so keep a look out on this space!

I can skip Giga liao. :s13:

Been on SH 5G for almost 2 yrs with iphone 14pm and now the iphone 15pm, nope, it does not drain battery juice switching between 4G and 5G.

yes. Now it's 2024. They have implemented more seamless transition between 5G and 4G. It's always a myth that 5G uses more power, yes but no sometimes. If the network is strong, you use lesser power to hook onto the network. If reception is weak (which 4G is), your phone will use more power to grip onto the network, constant buffering and loading webpages.

i just saw that they updated the app and i was 'upgraded' to the roaming plan. on the $18 plan. then they did not include 5g, saying not supported, and i need esim. like wtf, i need risk myself to apply for esim, then u dont support iphones for 5g lmao. what a clown teleco, might just jump to simba or wait for eight if they are so shet at it.

giga 5G is not available because iPhones use different carrier bundle for each carrier.
For Singapore, MyRepublic uses StarHub carrier bundle, thus share same features as StarHub (5G standalone).
For some reason, giga uses a separate carrier bundle called "StarHub_giga_sg". This bundle does not have 5G standalone enabled.
Thus, giga iPhone users must wait till giga submits a new bundle to Apple, and wait for Apple approval, and wait for Apple release a new iOS version, and update to that iOS version, then can use 5G. Just like SIMBA, waited for sometime till iOS 16.4 was out, then can use 5G

This is true. And 5G uses more power on the basis that both 4G and 5G radios are active at the same time, no matter which is connected. Compared to 3G and 4G, where only 1 of the radio is active when it is connected to network.

We all have to face the fact that on 31 July 2024, our 3G network will shut down. No more fallback to 3G. So we are left with only 4G. So that's why we need 5G. Those with handsets that are capable should get 5G plans.

More of this mvno's are slowly releasing 5G plans like giga, myrepublic.
