Usb3 is not enough. Make sure both the enclosure and the host supports UASP.

The immediate benefits is saturating random access speed, that is what SSD is really superior in. Sequential access is better but hardly utilized most of the time

Ah... Thanks for sharing, that's something new to me.

Is it normal for my 7 months old intel 530 to have 2 re-allocated sector count and 1 program fail count?

First time using ssd. Do re-allocated sector count and program fail count need to RMA?

As far as I can remember, for Crucial, I was asked to monitor the count if it increases in a week or so (I can't find the mail From their CS anymore). When it did, I was asked to RMA it.

You may need to contact the manufacturer about that.

Probably just put it in a USB 3.0 external casing since that interface offers the highest transfer speeds. Besides, most SSDs still have not reached the theoretical limit of the USB 3.0 interface yet.

So can I say I should be looking for an external USB 3.0 to SATA III (6Gbps) enclosure with UASP support? Any reliable brand available here to recommend and place to buy?

I'm thinking of getting it for the SAMSUNG 850 PRO 1TB SSD

Few hours back heard clicks coming from my ultrabook.

2 years old and dropped a couple of times after falling asleep from bed. Suspected it was coming from hdd, did a test and showed warning. Thinking of switching to SSD.

Can I buy any SSD from amazon? Since it is ultrabook, I am not sure if any SSD can fit it as compared to a laptop's. Not looking for high storage SSD since I have external HDDs that I always back up to.

Need to get it fast before kaput...

Hey. I'm not a pro in this notebook area
But just wanna remind you if it's an ultra book, is it possible to upgrade the storage ? Aren't ultra books got everything sealed in ? Like a MacBook Pro retina or sth?

No such thing as completely sealed, it can be disassembled. For notebooks/ultrabook, common household screwdrivers can be used.

Smartphones a little bit harder due to unique tools required.

Acer Aspire 5755G-9471
Processor: Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2ghz
Graphics Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M with 1gb dedicated vram
Display: 15.6 inch, 16:9, 1366x768 pixels

Is this worth a SSD upgrade?

Going from a normal hard disk to SSD will bring improvements even to older laptops - I say go for it if you keen to keep the current laptop and extend it's useful life

I am not sure if its the fact that its been a long time since i switched on my lappy or it is getting old. Now the startup time is cui and it is rather lag despite defrag. Wondering if ssd will solve the problem. Hm. Thanks for ur input!

I'm pretty sure an SSD will solve your problem. Do a clean install on your new SSD and you're good to go. An SSD also hardly requires any maintenance at all. I used to have to run defrag on my HDD, do a clean installation regularly, etc, just to make it run more quickly. But those don't help very much and a clean installation also is rather time consuming.

Indeed, I've encouraged everyone around me to switch to an SSD as it offers a very significant performance boost. Once I switched to SSD, I never looked back. I even swapped out the HDD on my work laptop for an SSD at my own cost. Improves my productivity as well.
