i bought a Vertex 4 but the current bootup time is 20-24 secs which seem low. I am wondering what did I do wrong. Hope someone can help

Specification

Asus Sabertooth 55I
4 GB RAM
Ocz Vertex 4

I configure ACHI and plug in only the HDD and IDE DVD ROM.
HDD was connect to the SATA 2 Intel port
Install Win7 with the default system partition
Boot up time seem to be 24 secs
Flash BIOS but no improvement.

SSD already flash to latest firmware.

I try to use the JMicron® JMB322 SATA port initally but the benchmark test was quite low

So I change to onboard Intel P55 Express Chipset built-in SATA port and notice a increment in the benchmark test but boot timing still the same.

24 secs start from where? If timed from power on, pretty fast already.

To be consistent, you can download a commonly used app "BootRacer" for comparison the rest of forumers here.

SSD performance will degrade on both Win 7 and Win XP.

Just that it will degrade faster on XP due to the lack of native TRIM support.

However, some SSDs makers like Intel, provide a tool for users to run TRIM manually or on a schedule.

The difficulty in setting AHCI on Win XP also hurts performance (very) slightly.

Thanks alot :s13:

i am quite out of touch with Xp since i tossed it out of the Window once 7 came out.

lack of Native TRIM support will hurt both Sandforce & Marvell SSDs?

but it takes a full minute for Desktop to load. :s22:

i think too much rubbish starting up together

With or without TRIM, performance of any SSD will degrade except that it will be faster without TRIM.

In a TRIM-less enviroment, it will depend on which SSD controller's built in algorithms can better slow down the performance degradation.

24sec time start from Windows Loading excluding bios startup time.

Close enough...you may have some applications set to startup automatically when Windows boots.

IIRC, mine is approx 15~20 secs from Windows logo till network busy disappear.

Saw your rig specs. You using M4 128gb?

I'm using 256gb so not an apples to apples comparison.

Generally similar models with higher capacity tend to have slightly higher speed/iops too.
