Kept saying, ageism is a real issue. With technology, the corporate shelf-life is getting shorter.
It’s not competition with foreigners, the cheaper and younger local workers can take our jobs too, esp those in their prime 30s.
No doubt income level is increasing. But it’s to compensate for a shorter corporate lifespan. Must save up for the days when the axe comes.
Walk around CBD during lunch, seldom see older workers. Mostly 20s - late 40s.
got a few white elephant in the room but no one want to actually go deeper.![]()
video did happen to go into ad break when karen was talking about her position replaced by jhk but no continuing discussion there.
is it really Foreign Talent or people with dubious qualification coming in to take jobs at a lower salary?
there will be a talking point when sg can get a union to protect people from retrenchment instead of running a supermarket
at least provide suggestions and ideas to resolve the problem. but they seem to tell us everything is good now, nothing to improvecan’t expect much from msm. It’s expected they close the show with gov stance. You expect them to end with simmering anger among viewers? lol

Foreigner keeps boss important cos need boss to solve. My personal experience: -
Foreigner colleague salary $3k, don't solve problems, throw all problems even the smallest ones to boss to resolve.
Sinkie salary $6k, solves all problems, didn't even need boss to solve anything.
Boss say the foreigner at $3k still the best!
Or when they fire FTs.Wake me up when these companies hire sinkies in the first place
Yet some companies still hire FTs for the highly paid leadership roles.Sinkies jobs lost to MYS / foreigners. With RTS coming, prepare for more job losses. Anyone can lose his job no matter how good one is.
Need to reduce quotas and increase higher levies. Foreigners are becoming more expensive to hire than sinkies.
Migrate...sigh.. what to do?

I can only dream of a union in Singapore that protects locals instead of being a government lapdog.got a few white elephant in the room but no one want to actually go deeper.

Good luck to the PAP when they need true blue Sinkies to serve NS and work in the government.I guess in the future, coys will only maintain a presence in SG only merely for international tax planning purpose, though not sure if that will change after BEPS 2.0
I suppose Singaporeans are truly doomed then. Companies leaving, job opportunities dwindling, foreigners still keep swarming into SG taking and fighting for whatever jobs remaining.
Meanwhile our world class mgmt everyday scream and shout "reskill retrain upskill upgrade e2i wsg skillsfuture"...
Quite hard to migrate with children though. Probably need to start a thread on this.

Yeah, that is a huge risk.Migrate. The foreign country may reject them.
So you are saying you would willing to waste your 3 years of life for exchange of money.Even that is not a problem as I have not done much work for almost 3 years.. If I walk out empty handed, paychecks collected for the last 3 years more or less cover any severance package. If I get layoff with a package, it will just be icing on the cake.
I still want it to be an option for me to consider though, even if it is just a temporary relocation.
i think the 2 months notice is to let them still get paid while looking for job elsewhere. the company portray it as a benefit. lolGrace... Wtf... Notice period is not a retrenchment benefit
So not only do we encourage them to ignore our people for jobs, we reward them with tax breaksbecause of the tax issue, those company set up in Singapore because of lowest tax in the world.
