the talk show quite meaningless. like own ppl kaki kong kaki song. not trying to solve anything ... just parroting the same message from MIW :o

can’t expect much from msm. It’s expected they close the show with gov stance. You expect them to end with simmering anger among viewers? lol

That's why it's important to make pap lose votes. Under them, the govt and whatever govt related orgs will always side with employers. The west is over protective of their workers with unions, benefits etc but in Singapore, we have gone to the other extreme where employees are increasingly not protected at all.

The whole system needs to re-haul all over again and white suckers have to get rid totally.
Or else no changes at all.

They can carry on talk and talk for many yrs, still same old shia again and again.

we need to provide some value that investors willing to invest with high cost and good employees benefits and rights

just like bangladesh, a major manufacturing place for banded apparels. people willing to invest because of cheap labour, and bangladesh govt cannot set minimum wage as they have nothing significant to offer

Everyone in the world knows that if worked in a company for many many years and a termination for poor performance is equal to a straight lie out of the box.
Nowadays companies are smarter. They will term it restructuring so they don’t get sued. Then they will create new roles with new titles but somewhat similar job profile and hire cheaper resources. What I can’t fathom is how govt assumes Singaporeans can work till 65 or 70, when MNCs are cost rationalising so much.

Not just costs. Looser environmental policies and enforcement also means companies can get away with many things that are not environmental friendly.

Kept saying, ageism is a real issue. With technology, the corporate shelf-life is getting shorter.

It’s not competition with foreigners, the cheaper and younger local workers can take our jobs too, esp those in their prime 30s.

No doubt income level is increasing. But it’s to compensate for a shorter corporate lifespan. Must save up for the days when the axe comes.

Walk around CBD during lunch, seldom see older workers. Mostly 20s - late 40s.

And after late 40s, for senior positions, MNC leaders tend to hire their own people. E.g., Japanese MNCs hire Japanese senior leaders, Indian CEO hire Indian senior executives, Aussie boss hires Aussie group etc.

Japanese mnc very standard.
my sup (prev job) is an old phd seasoned engineer, he is the general manager.
on top of him is alway a japanese director. that is the structure of most jap engineering departments.

then there are always a lot of transient engineers from japan hq come and go. they are more like immersion stint. a few like it in sg, they talked to hq to get approval and then whole family flew over and settled here. sons and daughters enrol jap or international sch.

That’s why I see govt shout about SF, is really laughable. It’s not a skill gap issue, it’s an age and cost issue for PMETs.

Could never understand why a company based in X would want to hire from Y, Z
If it's so cheap in Y and Z, move out and operate from there.
Simple....why be anti-national?
because of the tax issue, those company set up in Singapore because of lowest tax in the world.
