Traders, what has been your experience been last few weeks? Do you find that shorting tends to be more profitable? I have seen few stocks sustaining rallies to the upside while the shorts have been hitting profit objectives much quicker and with higher hit rates. I guess this is kind of showing in the main indices where within the establish trading ranges, sells offs have been more violent while stocks are struggling to rally and often not as fast. Is this a sign of a topping?

The swing is usually violent as everyone start to take cautious. Went in Nasdaq for a stock pick during weeks ago -600pts, currently still gain a quick 5%+ hope it's sustainable, my sgx picked took me a year and more at +15% yield. I do less trade or just a single pick. Personally, feel that markets look limited upside, it's pending a valid reason for a good correction and likewise I am still finding a excuse to 0 out my presence in both markets :)

I trade oil and gold futures on TOS.

Can't for the life of me understand TWS, and TOS charts and executions are way more superior. Plus, TWS lags terribly on my computer.

The problem with TOS is the futures margin required is quite high, one lot of oil is $5475.

Are there better instruments for leveraging futures than CFDs? I mean, yes its a double edged sword, and Im also hesitant of some "scammy" ones. I read some horror stories of them holding up your cash or pretend they cant do anything when your withdrawals go missing 😱😱😱

What’re you trying to trade? I reckon you can do better than CFD brokers.

I traded SG market with a short bias, whole of August. However, closed all shorts last friday. The market has been quite oversold and I expect some consolidation / rebound over the next few days.

I am quite bearish the SG market save for Reits and think this class of shares would be laggards in the move down. However, at some point, the Reits would be sold off as well. Growth has been downgraded to almost zero and SG may face a recession unless the government does some fiscal pump priming. But with the trade war unresolved, the econ numbers would just head south and funds may well avoid pumping in new monies to the SG market.

For US stocks, I have found trading short easier than longs but remain wary as it is very headline driven. The current price action looks similar to last Oct / Nov volatile wide range trading band.
