Hi hoping to get some advice as a new spectacles wearer.
Just got a pair done for longsightedness and some astig (+2.00, CYL +1.00, 90deg)

However even in the center of the lens, I find that objects are looking vertically stretched for eg, a circle looks like a tall oval. The distortion gets worse looking through the corners of the lens. Plus there's some chromatic aberration at the corners as well. I read that these distortions around the corners are normal for lenses with higher abbe values? I'm not sure what material mine are made of. Will using CR-39 or Trivex be better options?

Bit disappointed that the optometrist insists that seeing ovals instead of circles is normal and I will get used to it. I admit I'm sensitive about shapes and color accuracy as I work in the graphics industry.

Seeing items vertically stretched is due to the astigmatism @ 90Degrees.
You can easily counter this by making double aspheric + Super thin lenses + find a frame that is near face.

chromatic aberration can be countered using lenses with high light transmissibility. (E.g. Zeiss/Tokai)

Thanks @Optometrist! When you say super thin lens, do you mean an index of 1.6 and above? Will those have higher risk of chromatic aberration cos of the lower abbe values?

Also, may I know a ballpark figure of how much higher grade lens like Zeiss/Tokai will set me back?

hi @Optometrist,

am planning to get the following sunglasses: Oakley HSTN (A) Kylian Mbappe Dark Amber Light Curry w/ Prizm Tungsten

1) I'm planning to swap out the lenses for prescription photochromic lenses. are there any recommendations in terms of type/brand?

2) Can you recommend me what type of lens would be good? Usage is mainly daily computer screen, walking around & sightseeing.

3) Please recommend a good shop to make the prescription lenses. I'm able to claim up to USD 425 for this set.

thank you!

Hi all, are there any good rimless brands (aside from Lindberg) going for less than $500? Also, any good recommendation for shops that stock a variety of rimless brands. Thanks in advance!!

The horn won’t be touching your face..
it’s pretty light honestly.

yes have to wait for approximately 3-4 weeks. As Lindberg are the ones doing the customisation parts.
Hi Gangsterkia! Wow so happy i finally found this thread again and found u! Few years ago i had to go for cataract surgery for both eyes at a relatively young age. So that year i google and read up a lot on progressive glasses and saw this thread and have almost all the postings back then. But ended up i settle for a shop near my home to get my progressive which turns out to be a wrong choice as it doesnt meet my needs at all. It end up still having lots of issues with near distances. But i stick to it for a few years as its not cheap either. The time has come where i REALLY REALLY need to a pair of suitable specs, also coz of my new job that requires more demanding visual needs. I have had enough. Can you advise me which person to look for at which optical shop please? I live in the east but i am thinking of going to Jamco since i heard lots of reviews about it. Is there any particular person to look for please? Or any other recommendations. I really really need help...... can u msg me... as i cant seem to send u any private message... cant find the button for private msg... i havent been using hwz for a while.... tks a million!

Hi Specs Vets here,

Am looking for a pair of specs with progressive lens. Would prefer the lens to be durable and scratch-proof as I have only bought my current specs from a year ago and it has many scratches despite caring it to a certain degree. May look into UV protection coating as well. Looking for a specs that can last preferably 5 years. Do not have a preference for specific brand of lens as long it can last, but prefer a cheaper one, don’t mind spending more for better quality though.
Would prefer buying from capitaland mall as I have some vouchers from there. Living at east side. Thanks da lao for the advices in advance.

I ended up visiting Optometrist's shop since its more convenient for me. He is very experienced and cleared lots of misconceptions i have had about progressive lens and uncovered things that i should know as well. Probably most shops can prescribe progressive glasses but u definately need someone who is skillful enough to get u the right pair else u may end up with lots of issues like what i experienced b4.
