Hoya has much better scratch resistant and longer lasting coating. None of my hoya lenses past and present has a single naked eye scratch. Not even hairline. U need to go under microscope to see the finer scratches if any. Not even those spots and dots so prevalent on other lens brands. Hoya lenses only grow yellowish with age but rarely scratched. I hope they will be in business for a long time and don't drop in quality.

Nope I'm not their fan. Too flimsy and too thin to hold the thickness of my hi index lens. I need strong bulky frames but hard to find. You have any suggestions pls let me know.

Thanks, Seannie! Interesting to hear - completely different from what I've been advised, though personally I find my current pair, which are hoya's to have acceptable resistance to scratching given the time (~5 years) I've used them.

re the yellow tinge, I am given to understand that this is a normal result of the blue filter, though reading the earlier posts someone mentioned that it's quite pointless.

Curious to see the opinions of others too!

Personally, I am using a Zeiss Photofusion. I wanted initially a Zeiss with Duravision Platinum + Blue Protect. Optician suggested the Photofusion as all the blue protections are really very minimal or even relevant . Yes maybe to certain minimal extent. Thus I went ahead to get the Photofusion since it double up as a sunglass which is really useful when in outdoors.

Frames: which model / brand you looking at ? Italy or Japan made? Burberry or Ic! Berlin?

Its interesting to hear that Hoya is by rights the most expensive. I am in fact being quoted the opposite, that is, a higher price for Zeiss' blue protect.

Transition come in Gray, Brown & Green. As for Photofusion is Gray with a blue tint.

Ah maybe that's why. Mines 1.60. So that's it? - hoya more expensive only at the higher indexes?

But it also depend on the shop you visit, some will have better pricing as they have work with the lap in a quantity order so there will be better price on the particular brand.

For Zeiss & Crizal is easy as there will be embose on the lens itself in addition there will be a card of authenticity.

Only higher end Hoya lens come with authenticity card, but you can alway request for authenticity from the shop you purchase from.

Very true, regardless of Transition, Photofusion, Sensity, Sun-lens, etc. They all darken upon exposure of UV, it's all about how they improve the clarity and molecular which help to change faster. And brand it by their trademark*

The competing products are Zeiss photofusion, Hoya sensity, and essilor transitions

The main factors to look at are the depth of tint when activated by light, colours that are available such as brown, gray or grey-green, rate at which the tint darkens outdoors, and fades indoors, which is different. Traditionally, photochromic lens do not tint in the car, or under bright fluorescent lights, but some manufacturers have come out with certain photochromic lens that may tint a little under these conditions. These still won't tint under led lights.

Photochromic lens from the same brand have different versions (generation) and types. Something bought ten years ago is different from one bought today.

Must the old specs be traded in at the shop that I first bought at?

How much money will one receive when one trades in a typical specs.

I guess swissflex has a higher quality than a typical specs that I am talking about.

Swissflex , silhouette - very flimsy frame ! Plus the temple is very flexible . Those who likes it will appreciate it. But majority don't .

Ic! Berlin , tom ford , Oakley and Oliver people are some which you can consider.

I am a teenager wanna follow trend HAHAHA, I guess I will go for ray-ban round specs
