Maybe only Rolex
師兄說的沒錯,也許是勞力士獨有的特性?
我的山度士水鬼戴了二十年,都沒有這種特性的存在。無論機芯是否有上鏈,還是完全停頓,我都能調時。

Hmmmmmm... the logic to shake your automatic/self winding watch a couple of times is actually to see if the internal watch mechanism are still working or not.

Applies to all automatic & self-winding watches, not just Rolex.

I have some friends with brand new rolex watches, whereby the seconds hand doesn't move at all, even after fully winding it 30-40 times. Turn out there's a need to change the lubricant.

This is also a good practice to have for watches after wearing it for a couple of years.... or you tend to let the watch run down completely. And also old automatic/self-winding watches.

That's why automatic watch winders exist...

Newer automatic mechanisms in high end watches, tend to have built in winding limiters to prevent users from over winding, whereby the limiter will automatically "break" away from the Crown once it reaches its limit even if the user continue to turn the crown.

But this limiter may not be found in lower end automatic watches and vintage watches.

I am sure every automatic watch sold comes with a "user guide", detailing the correct way to wind the watch, set time and date and the mfg recommended care and maintenance.

This of course, goes back to after-sales servicing and repairs if the watch is faulty. Iirc watch companies reserves the right to refuse repair if the watch owner spoils the watch mechanism without following the proper procedures or try something funny, even if it's under valid warranty period

Shaking the watch gently (forget to add this word) left right or up down, is to activate the watch's self-winding mechanism. Since the mechanism is suppose to automatically coil up the spring whenever the watch moves.

So, if the self winding isn't working then send in for servicing...

My seiko 5 watch also cannot hand wind must shake shake shake. Shake shake shake.

APCREDIT and EASYCREDIT busy marketing their financial services (and earning ntuc points) lol.

If the user bother to read this thread, he should know most of the users (not including myself) in this thread are high income earners to be able to afford multuple branded watches.

I rem when I went to chuan watch a few months back - the owner son, I think nic... Was also sharing the same thing. He mentioned not to shake the watch when the watch stops cos it will spoil the main spring or something..

it depends how you shake it.

you don't take it up and down (not shaking it like you're shaking a whipped cream canister)
you emulate the way how a watch winder works and you're fine.
turn the watch in a circular motion, left and right.

because that's how the rotor should turn.
