How much "give" does the rubber have? That will determine how difficult it is. Usually, it's easy. The hardest part is probably re-installing the original bracelet.

hardest part is installing and re-installing without scratching your lugs...

dont misunderstand. im just an average kid.

not exactly spare cash to throw into the watch. i'm also working and studying at the same time.

I feel that as now I am still young, there is not much commitment that I have to attend to. I can save the majority of my salary and use it to purchase something that I wish to own instead of just dreaming about it.

compared to majority of the teenagers out there who just party and drink or spend it on unnecessary stuffs, I believe all those money spent add up can too buy a luxury item if it has not been spent on those activities.

hence I am considering a second hand rollie as a gift to myself for getting this far and graduating

No regrets. Both of us travelled and ate and watched movies etc and since both of us are not well to do, the money went to sch fees and books.

So yea is good to save up for something you like etc. And yea you have no commitments like bills to pay etc. But this may suddenly all change when you meet your other half. And don't forget the 11k is very useful for down payment for BTO.

I'm not encouraging you to party drink or what. I'm just saying there will always be an opportunity to buy a Rolex. But the people you meet comes and go. Use this chance you have in uni to socialise a bit make some friends. Who knows you might need a favour from them in future etc.

However if you do end up enough cash for a Rolex, as a first Rolex and to commemorate on your graduation, I would say go for brand new and preferably from an AD. Once you're more experience then go grey and maybe second hand.

In a way we are both the same. Both in uni and saving up for a graduation watch. For you it's a Rolex. For me I'm a simpler man, just an engraved Stowa Type B will do

On the topic of Rolex and first watch, my take on it (and I convinced myself eventually) is that since this is my first luxury watch, there are a few criteria to meet:

1. Must be brand new
2. Must be something that I can pass on to my kids (if I have one, or two, or..)
3. Must be something that looks timeless
4. Most importantly, must fit within my budget of ~10k


1 & 4 weren't hard to meet, but 2 & 3 were the tougher ones. I was smitten with Pam 312 probably a year or two ago. Tried on the watch.. huge on my 6" wrist. Still lusted for it, while I got poisoned by the louder, mainstream watches like AP ROO (which I'll probably get when I'm 30 or older).

Then I started reading the watch thread when it was in part 6 I think, and saw SKX007 being mentioned. Wasn't expensive, so that became my first ever automatic watch in Dec 2014. Then came along the SNZH craze so off I went to get an SNZH53 with FFF mod. I got an SNZH57 FFF dial, but haven't got down to buying the watch yet so that shall wait.

Started falling in love with divers and contemplated on getting a cheaper alternative - Tudor BB Red. However, refer back to point 2. Then, started seeing photos of SubC online, and thought to myself, think no more, get a Rolex and call it a day. Got a very very good deal at THG in KL (7.9k after GST refund) that I couldn't resist and 9 months after my first automatic watch, I'm a proud (albeit probably a little too kiddish looking) owner of my first luxury watch that fulfils all 4 criteria of mine.

Some may not agree with my school of though, but one man's prada is another man's prata

I was on a similar topic with my wife a few months ago, regarding which watches to pass down to our kids...

My 25 hours automatic watch is definite.
Next will be my tudor day date.

High 5^ same here... I came to this thread because of orient star classic. Slowly, it progressed to a rolex submariner 16800 (made in 1985) which I realised is not gonna be possible as I was preparing to propose to my wife...get a house etc...

Hahaha I'm normally very chill, mostly because I'm surrounded by people who often don't chill so it's up to me to chill.

In most situations, I've noticed that there won't be a difference whether I chill or not, so may as well chill right?
