I have compared them, and decided to go with the Huawei Honor 3C. I just ordered mine online a few days ago.

Pros of 3C over Redmi
1. 3C has 2GB of RAM vs 1GB. This is imho the biggest advantage. More ram allows you to run more apps smoothly. With only 1 GB, the phone is constantly closing apps and trying to free up memory, causing it to stutter when launching apps. Most high end phones launched within the last 1.5 years are 2GB or more. For example, the Galaxy Note 2 also has 2GB of RAM.
2. 8GB of flash vs 4GB. This is significant, although can be mitigated by adding a sdcard. Both phones support microsd up to 32GB.


Pros of Redmi over 3C
1. Slightly faster CPU. Redmi has a 1.5GHz Mediatek CPU compared to 3C's 1.3GHz. Both are pretty fast phones for the price, with a slight edge to the Redmi. But if you run apps that require alot of memory(eg, some games), the 3C can load up faster. In day to day use, the small diff in CPU speed is not significant.
2. Mini SIM card supported. This gives you the widest range of prepaid SIM cards anywhere in the world. 3C supports dual micro SIM cards.
3. Price. Redmi is only S$169. 3C is only available online for about US$210 for the 2GB version.

There are other minor differences like the camera, but these aren't important to me.

Most definitely. The specs are nothing much to scream about. It is the work they put into MIUI which makes the difference. I'm surprised that they offer their ROM for free for some of their competitors models. This might work against their favor since you can get another support phone and put MIUI on it. I supposed that might be why they had to sell their phone cheap.

It's possible. They have the MiDrive cloud storage for all customers, it is possible they might expand that to a paid service, perhaps free for the first 10gb and fees based for the rest. I read somewhere they bought Kingsoft games and that might be another revenue source.

If you have been following Lei Jun's presentations, he has emphasize a few times that they aren't making money from selling phones actually. It is the apparels, software that comes in later. Wise man with long term future for the company.

Some sellers also offer a choice of the stock Huawei ROM or a custom MIUI rom, so that might be the best of both worlds. You can always swap ROMs, but you cannot add more RAM.

The diff between 2GB and 1GB is huge for people who run lots of apps or switch between several apps. On 1GB phones, the free mem is constantly hovering around 100-250MB. That means the phone is constantly cleaning up memory to maintain that level. When it drops to below 100MB, the phone slows to a crawl and is annoyingly unresponsive for several seconds until more mem is available.

On 2GB phones, the free mem is easily 1GB+ much of the time. Apps remain in the background instead of getting closed. when you switch back to prev apps, they retain their latest state and you can pick up from where you left off, instead of launching it all over again. Overall usage is smoother and the phone seldom stutters.

Most of the specs DO NOT matter, as you rightly pointed out, but 2GB is the one that really matters. If there were a 2GB version of Redmi, I would have bought it on the spot instead of waiting several weeks for my 3C to arrive.

Really wonder why they didn't use both sims as wcdma, it shld b backward compatible, kinda waste I can only use HSPA on 1 sim

My guess is that it's for cost reasons. These are, afterall budget phones. Some phones, like Zoppo P980, supports 3G on both SIMs, but these are higher spec'ed phones and cost significantly more (300+ USD) for the 2GB version.

AliExpress. Be very careful - there are 2 versions of Huawei Honor 3C (TD-SCDMA and WCDMA). Make sure you buy the WCDMA version that is already rooted with Google Play installed.

Current versions are all white (black face, white back). Full black ones are hard to find. But thats not really a problem since the back is swappable if you want a black one later.

Where you order your Honor 3C? Looking to get 2 units for overseas use. 2G ram is the pro over 1G Redmi. Those phones still have 1G ram won't handle too many apps.

yes 2gb ram huawei is better. i have nexus 4, i know the power of 2gb. most pple don't flash or even root their phone. most Phone users don't even know whats a ram is for...as long as the phone don't crash or lag big time they won't complaint.

the complaint now is i can't get 1 lol...

Guess it depends on what u use it for. The Huawei was out earlier but there's way less buzz compared to redmi, so why the difference? Don't say about the stocks shortage, even now when people can get both, I think more people will go with the Redmi.

Maybe a lot of people using this as a spare phone or use it as a phone for travelling.. for that purpose, the lesser RAM is not as impt, but the better cam will be useful for travel shots plus the dual sim card is also good for getting a local data sim.

And as 1 guy pointed out, flashing rom is possible, but u can never add more ram, which is true.. but how many people know to root, much less flash a different rom? To them the phone will forever remain on the same rom that it came with initially.

And lastly is the price diff and warranty support, Honor costs $100 more than Redmi wor.... it's a lot of money for another 1gb of ram, plus no local warranty for the Honor right?

Hi guys

Can somebody teach me an idiot proof method to root my Redmi so that I can install App2SD and move my apps to the SD card?

That's all I want to do.. Just to be able to move my apps to the SD card - is there any other way of doing this ?
