the reflash of the ROM software is free, as long as its local set. I did my there too upgrade to MIUI 6.. now back to MIUI 5.

Thanks for the info. just did a reflash back to miui5 for my out-of-warranty redmi at the service centre.

The speaker is still not working. Checked with the CSO onsite on cost to repair speakers if it's found out that the speakers are indeed faulty. Was quoted SGD$45.50 which is IMHO simply not worth it cos the phone was bought at SGD$179.... =(

Just got to live with it.... Lucky it's spare phone.... =)

Only when I plugged in earphones, then I able to hear sounds...

Tried factory reset quite a few times.. still same issue..

Those of you who has a Redmi 1, and thinking to update firmware OTA to miui6. I suggest you to hold on!

Under Storage settings, can choose where data is stored.

done that. but you can't perform any file manipulation.
External SD card turns into a read only drive!!

Try using a 3rd party File Manager (I am using ES File Explorer) and
1. create a FOLDER
2. Rename it [doesn't works]
3. Delete this FOLDER [doesn't works too]

Xiaomi ah Xiaomi ah ... WTF are you doing ...
OS isn't updated to 5.0 too. It is still 4.x!!!

IIRC, I don't face this problem when I was using this ROM version, maybe becoz I use TWRP to install. Can confirm there is no such issue with Miui v7 (Developer ROM 5.9.10).

Use SP Flash Tool to restore or "convert" to whatever ROM version you want.

Sounds like the easiest way out to restore from Miui 6 to ver 5.
Is it easy to use and safe? If the restoration fail will it brick the phone or will it just remain as previous version?

thanks

TWRP is Team Win Recovery Project, it's an alternative recovery tool for Android device.

As for changing sdcard permission, I'm not sure how it's possible given that root privilege is require.

I don't think this method is easier than doing via the normal recovery, be it stock or TWRP. I even have trouble getting the USB driver to install, have to use another clean installed laptop for this purpose.

Well, if the firmware update process failed, your phone will definitely be bricked. Remember this method totally overwrite all the partition on the device. But as long as the phone is still detectable then simply re-run SP Flash tool should suffice.

Also, the whole process took quite a bit of time to complete so made sure you have reliable power source and USB cable. Best to do it on a PC with no other stuff running in the background.

Good luck.

As stated earlier in this thread, I'm still facing this problem... SD card become read only..

IIRC only system apps are able to write direct to SD

anyway the built in rom is simply too small to hold much data...

That sounds frightening. I better not try it.

Anyone here had successfully revert to version 5 using any method without going to service centre? if so hope you can share with us.
Thanks

Only work to go back to miui 5 is service centre. I updated and regret. Can not down grade. So service centre is the only solution.
