Shortcomings of the eb810v

1) No VLAN (LAN side) support
2) No WireGuard support for VPN
3) The 10G SFP+ WAN (Combo) port cannot be used. Only can use the 10GE WAN(Combo)/LAN ports
4) Does not come with built-in speedtest
5) EHT (upload speed) not realized for 5/6GHz if devices have no 240/320MHz support
6) Cannot configure the WAN port into LAN port

On the consumer router side, Asus probably has the best features. On the other hand, Asus router will usually be more expensive.

For example, top of the line Asus ROG GT-BE98 WiFi 7 router will have the following.
1) VLAN and Guest Networking Pro
2) Wireguard VPN Server/Client
3) No SFP+ port. Only 10G WAN/LAN + 10G LAN.
4) It has built-in OOkla SpeedTest but the CPU is too weak to handle 10Gbps (or 8.2Gbps)
5) Need to wait for testing reports and may need future FW update to support MLO and AFC
6) 10G WAN/LAN + 10G LAN. The 10G WAN/LAN port can be configured as either WAN port or LAN port. But for 10Gbps plan, it will be used as a WAN port.

Previously, all the while, I was using ASUS routers. I just don't like those huge antennas sticking out.

I switched to ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 WiFi 6E mesh routers lately before upgrading to 10G and using TP LINK eb810v router

Does it really fit into the DB box? Do you have shelves there? As the circuit breaker box could be in the way from the shelf level that I have since I have to place it right at the top, the next level below shelf height is a little small to fit in.

Just added EB810V as router in my network. Previously was using Asus AC86U as router (for the 8-ports) and Huawei AX3 Pro.

A little disappointed with the range for EB810V. The AX3 Pro can reach the furthest end of the house (HDB 4-room) easily, the EB810V connection can drop off or very poor speeds (2-3 bar on my phone).

To top it off, some of my Yeelight smart lights can't seem to connect on the 2.4GHz. Haven't really investigated, think could be WPA3 vs WPA2 on the lights?

Also, no VPN built in. Now I can't VPN in to my home network.

Question on SSID, how come can set so many? Understand it's triband, so (1)2.4GHz, (2)2.4Ghz/5Ghz, (3-MLO)2.4GHz/5Ghz/6Ghz. I thought each SSID is for each band? Then in Settings, there is another page to add more SSIDs?? Anybody can give me pointers how I should set this up?

SSIDs for the main have 4

1) for 2.4GHz
2) for 5GHz
3) for 6GHz
4) for MLO

If your phone supports 6Ghz connect to it otherwise use 5GHz. 5GHz connection is worse than 6GHz. Don't use MLO (only for WiFi 7 devices)

If I'm not wrong the VPN you set in the router using Openconfig file is to connect out say to the net. Unless the router/hardware firewall has the VPN for incoming otherwise not possible.

For those IoT lights are they in line-of-sight of the router? If yes, connect using 5GHz (if they support dual band) otherwise use the 2.4GHz band. Try 20MHz channel or 40MHz (with EHT) channel

My Yeelights works fine with the router.

I noticed there are instances where my phone seems to stay connected but have no connection, typically when moving between mesh nodes. Will have to monitor again.

I thought there's a VPN server functionality under Advanced

Any guru here knows whether wifi range/quality will be affected if I position this router on the side? I'm asking this as the shelf that I used to put my existing router does not have the sufficient height clearance to position this router upright.

I tried to google but cannot find any information. As the antenna is built in, I'm also not sure if the signal is directional e.g. must be upright so it broadcasts signal horizontally?

Why don't you try and see the result?

My starhub appointment is not due. I signed up before they offered this current bundle and was thinking whether I should request to change to the $110.97 one after reading the stories shared here with the Nokia ONR.

It seems to me the router is designed to be upright. So yes I tend to believe WiFi signal will be reduced if you put it side-ways.

Can you put the router on top of the shelf? It is better to be put the routering in a higher position without obstuction. Puting the router inside a cabinet will reduces the WiFi signal, how bad will depend on the material and construction of the cabinet.

Yes, it is better to do that if you are worreid about the ONR and if you are willing to pay $110.97 to change grom Nokia ONR to ONT + TP-Link EB810v.

The shelf is a small floating wall mounted one that was added during a renovation many years ago, in an attempt to put router in a more centralised location in the house. I also shifted the fibre point there. The "topside" of the shelf is the ceiling hahaha... the clearance is 240mm whereas this TP-link router is 262.5mm tall :(

The eb810v comes with a ONT not ONR
I recontracted during the $88.77 bundle which only comes with ONR. I am exploring the alternative (potential) option of changing to the ONT + TP-link router.

I see. In this case, just go ahead and see how it goes, at least it is on a high and central position.

Not allow by Starhub. I already requested. Maybe Starhub sign contract with nokia to provided troubleshooting by ONR remote setting by back end for 2 years on your contract. So cannot change to ONT which different brand of ONT.

Guys bought 2 of these router in my dad’s place - it’s been set up by the trooper as easymesh wifi. But it’s v confusing - there are multiple SSIDs.
There’s a main one which follows the main router, followed by 2 others containing the names of both routers with a “MLO” at the end of it.
Do I use the main one or the MLO one?
Hi, can I kndies EB810v comes with Homeshield for network protection?
