I am using Samsung Tab S3 with TPG. But every few hours the 4G dies and I get a "No sim card inserted, please insert sim card." error from the tablet. If I restart the tablet, it will work again for a while before hitting the same error.

Anyone having a similar problem with their devices?

I have a TPG SIM card in an old Samsung Galaxy Tab4 7.0.

No disconnection so far. :)

Yes only certain phones can support.

My daughter's Oppo R9 plus is not supported.

Cannot expect much. It is free anyway. =:p

Its free for now, but since the company is preparing for an official launch soon, we can have expectations.

There's so much hurdles in their road to an official launch, one of the biggest being the big ya ya papaya Apple.

".....Mr Tan said while VoLTE has been around for some time and most phones support the technology, it does require adding TPG’s parameters to the device’s firmware settings. This is what device makers like Samsung, Huawei and Oppo have been doing, he pointed out.

Apple, however, has refused to add the telco’s settings to its carrier settings, he revealed.

“We have explained to them that we are a SIM-only operator and are not currently bundling phones with our service trial, and (Apple’s) decision inconveniences customers who may have signed up for a TPG service,” the executive said.

“We have also sought (regulator) IMDA’s help … but Apple has refused to budge from their position.”

This means that for those who are using TPG’s trial service, data and SMS services work but not voice calls. Given that Apple has “something like north of 40 per cent market share in Singapore", many are not able to enjoy its services to the full, he said.

“It is disappointing that Apple is abusing their position to the prejudice of consumers,” Mr Tan said."

So for the limited devices that support TPG is not entirely TPG's issue.

I have been on the TPG trial since Feb. I am able to access the internet and use whatsapp for calls and messaging. However I am unable to make phone calls and send or receive SMS. I am using a samsung note 5. Is there any settings I need to change or set.

And when I send a whatsapp message to another person. The person sees my previous M1 Sim mobile phone number and not my TPG number even though I have replaced the M1 with the TPG sim card.

Appreciate any suggestions. thanks.

Samsung Note 5 do not support TPG's volte network (which TPG uses for voice calls), and unlikely it will ever support. it Since its a very old model, Samsung is unlikely to issue a firmware patch to add TPG's volte profile into note 5. Receiving and sending sms should work though.

Whatsapp account is tied to the number u entered when u register for a whatsapp account. Changing simcards do not automatically update the number.

Follow the steps in the link below to change and note all the preparations required.

And my set is a bonafide singapore retail unit.

That means huawei has added the profile of msia providers but did not add whatever network u are using in Singapore. Being a 'singapore retail unit' does not mean it's made specifically for Singapore and everything should work in Singapore.

If you know how to root and jailbreak the phone, and know how volte profiles are deployed for the model, u can actually see what profiles it has.

Eg. I rooted my korean imported lg v30 and access to its profiles and it contains profiles of many countries, including singapore's SingTel, M1 and Starhub, not just Korea ones.

Do some read up on how volte is deployed helps.

For volte to work:
1. The provider's network must support volte and it's activated for the user.
2. User's phone must has the provider's profile added to that phone model, or, in the case of xiaomi, the phone has the function to accept volte from any providers by disabling volte carrier check.

Addon: Moreover its a mate9, huawei don't even bother. Its released in 2016 and in its active market life of 2 years (2016-2018), TPG singapore had not even exist during its launch or made an impact during the years its active. Huawei won't even bother patching the phone to work with TPG. They will just say, upgrade to a later model.

Aiya, not everyone know how to work arround lah.... also depending on what chipsets lah.... my key question is why not a single Xiaomi phone is listed as officially supported lah....

Not officially supported cos'
1. Need a workaround and like u said, not everyone know how to work around.
2. Better ask Xiaomi. Maybe they are also like Apple, refusing to add the profile to make it work out of the box. (ie, 不把TPG放在眼里)

Eventually TPG, if they want to get out of this situation and reach out to users of unsupported phones, they have to develop their own dialer app. Just like JIO, the pure 4G Indian provider does.
