Coca-Cola to Cut 2,200 Jobs
Dec. 17, 2020

The Atlanta company, which had about 86,000 employees at the start of the year, has been trimming expenses and products amid the closures of restaurants, bars, movie theaters and sports stadiums that sell its drinks around the world.

The reductions amount to roughly 12% of the company’s U.S. workforce. Coke will make the job cuts through a combination of buyouts and layoffs, a spokesman said. In August, it offered voluntary-separation packages to about 4,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada. The company didn’t say how many people participated.

Covid vaccinations for the general public ‘won’t be chaos,’ assures Walgreens executive
DEC 18 2020

Rick Gates, senior vice president of pharmacy and healthcare at Walgreens, told CNBC that getting vaccines to the general public “won’t be chaos” as the FDA authorized Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use and set plans in motion to get states nearly 6 million doses by early next week.

“What you’re going to see, is we’re going to be very thoughtful on how we’re going to schedule appointments, how we’re going to work with the communities that we’re in, the states that we’re in, on priority populations, to make sure there’s not long lines out pharmacy’s doors and make sure people have safe, convenient, and efficient ways to get vaccines,” Gates said.

2021 Could Be Challenging for Tech Stocks. Here’s Why.
Dec. 18, 2020

The view from my corner of Silicon Valley is that the tech landscape is about to get trickier. Paul Wick, long-time tech fund manager at Columbia Seligman, notes that interest rates have begun creeping higher—and growth stocks historically underperform when rates rise. He thinks the Covid-19 vaccines, in addition to reopening the economy, should drive demand for commodities and add fuel to rising rates. Wick’s mutual fund has returned about 45%, on average, over the past two years, but he warns that returns on growth stocks could moderate or reverse in 2021.

Bigger is better—and now riskier. Early in the pandemic, I advised buying all five tech megacaps— Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon.com (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Facebook (FB). I still think you could do worse than a basket of those stocks, but the risks have grown. Apple—its shares are just 4% below an all-time high—has to deliver on the promise of 5G iPhones. Facebook and Google face growing regulatory scrutiny, though fines and new rules seem more likely than divestitures. Among big tech, Microsoft and Amazon might just be the safest bets.

Boris Johnson backtracks on relaxing Christmas rules after scientists warn new Covid-19 variant is spreading faster
December 21, 2020

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a series of stricter coronavirus restrictions, tightening rules around household mixing that were due to be relaxed over Christmas in England, while leaders in Scotland and Wales also introduced more stringent measures. The UK has among the highest Covid death rates in Europe, with more than 67,000 fatalities, and over 2 million cases.
The PM broke the news that London, and large parts of southern and eastern England, where cases are surging, will enter Tier 4 restrictions, similar to a lockdown, on Sunday.
"The spread is being driven by the new variant of the virus," Johnson said in a hastily called press conference. "It appears to spread more easily and may be up to 70% more transmissable than the earlier strain."

US sues Walmart for alleged role in opioid crisis
4 hours ago

Walmart, the world's largest retailer, operates more than 5,000 pharmacies at its stores across the US and for years has also acted as a drug distributor.

According to the lawsuit filed on Tuesday, the company pressured staff to fill prescriptions as fast as possible and withheld information from pharmacists, collected by its compliance unit, which indicated such orders did not have valid medical purposes.

In response, Walmart said it had sent the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) tens of thousands of investigative leads, and blocked thousands of questionable doctors from having their opioid prescriptions filled at its pharmacies.

Trump criticizes COVID-19 relief bill, suggests he may not sign
Dec 22, 2020

The bill provides for a $600 payment to most Americans, but Trump said he is asking Congress to amend the bill and “increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000, or $4,000 for a couple. I am also asking Congress to get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation and to send me a suitable bill.”

sort of agree. $600 is derisory. rich will not care, poor is not enuff.

Airlines welcome back thousands of furloughed workers after Congress passes stimulus bill
December 22, 2020

The new law includes an extension of the airline industry's Payroll Support Program, which sets aside $15 billion in assistance to bring back more than 32,000 United and American Airlines employees who were furloughed in September. The companies say the additional funds are enough to pay those workers through March 31.

In a Tuesday morning letter, United CEO Scott Kirby and President Brett Hart said their company plans to restore "temporary employment" to thousands of their out-of-work employees.

"This is certainly good news for our economy, our industry, and our airline -- but it's especially good news for those who have been without a paycheck, and we can't wait to welcome them back," Kirby and Hart wrote.

not say amdk satki, but see how they take care of workers, must respect them.
but over here take care of big bosses first.
