Got back from Vietnam few days back. 1st trip there, went to Tay Ninh (100km & 2.5hr drive from Ho Chi Minh).

Some tips to share:
(1) Better to get SIM card @ the airport. Hotel's wifi is not stable

(2) Transport (taxi & airport limo) is not cheap as thought. 1.2-1.5 mil Dong from HCM to Tay Ninh

(3) Book a taxi for 1mil dong (half day+) with a local chinese guide (nego) to bring us around is a better option to tour around

I would use this the next time.

Is there typo???

From HCMC to Tay Ninh, 100km, you expect to pay only 130-150K VND?

Also, book a taxi for more than half a day only 100K VND?? With a local Chinese guide some more??

LOL .... thought which planet you went to...so good. :s13::s13::s13:

Missing Vietnam, planning to book the next trip and venture out to other area.

My experience with Ho Chi Minh for 2 days was pleasant despite being chopped by the locals.

Tried 137 foot massage - solid!
Used ubermoto to travel around for food, buying nuts and dried jackfruit @ Binh Tay mkt.

I changed at arcade, Raffles place, many money changers there - 1st and 2nd floor.

Heard that it is cheaper to change at vietnam airport. But I didn't trust them thus I changed in Arcade.

Hanoi in early dec

Hi everyone, me and my friends (5 guys) are going to Hanoi in early December for 6D5N.

Air tickets and hotel rooms have been booked. Still deciding which tour agency to book my 3D2N Halong Bay cruise.
Any suggestion/recommendation from those who have been there?

For Old Quarters or other parts of Hanoi, did y'all go with street tours or jalan jalan by yourself? Food wise, I have researched those we wanna try, but not sure where are the ideal places to have them.

Some questions i have:

  1. changing sgd to dong in Hanoi, airport or hotel or shops at Hang Bac
  2. do i buy the mobifone sim card at airport or at old quarters?
  3. what's their night market like? our pasar malam?
  4. what or where to buy back stuff/souvenir? coffee?
  5. any must go/do/eat that you recommend?

thanks in advance =)

Why dont trust them, have changed before, no issue. Change a bit (suggest at least 250K) for cab then the rest change at Ben Thanh. Simple.

HCM more to war and history.

Hanoi more to sccenery.
HCM is a very young city. Pretty much like Singapore. Nothing much about history. People are forward-looking and noone talks about history here.

Hanoi is a city of more than 1000 years. It has been the capital city in most of Vietnam's history. It is rich in culture and history. People come to Hanoi to talk about the past and to be reminiscent of history.

ALL the money exchange counters at the airport are operated by BANKS, so they are very trustable.

The ones in Arcade are, unfortunately, NOT operated by banks. So you go to them at your own risk.

[*]changing sgd to dong in Hanoi, airport or hotel or shops at Hang Bac
In Hanoi, you can change at Ha Trung street near the old quarters. It's a street with many goldsmith shops, similar to Ben Thanh in HCMC. You can go and ask to compare the rates.
Have never heard of Hang Bac.

[*]do i buy the mobifone sim card at airport or at old quarters?
You can buy at its flagship shop near Hanoi central post office: 75 Dinh Tien Hoang (opposite Hoan Kiem Lake)

Your app will still be in english whichever country you go to. The Uber car options will change accordingly to the country you're in. You can just open up your Uber app now and key your location (or scroll) to Vietnam and you'll see the Uber car options change before your eyes. It's a unified solution, 1 app to rule them all (like lord of the rings).
