My experience so far, visa got dcc and worst exchange rate.
Master got no dcc and better exchange rate. I am referring to posb mastercard.

thanks.

I was actually thinking of paying by USD since if i pay by VND. Provided there's no DCC fees

if use VND, Mastercard will convert VND->USD->SGD

From what I gather from here and friends, blue diamond or Lavender are recommended, priced at average 30-40 per night on average, if booked ahead.

My last trip last year, I checked in a random hotel at district 1 nearby ben thanh, it was decent as well.

My coming trip next week, I am trying out backpacker hostel.

Any experts, is taking train or bus better for travelling to mui ne (to and fro)?

There is a type of bus where you can lay down, to mui ne. My friend didn't book early so we left to take taxi.

Its called Sleeper Bus. Buy tickets from De Tham street. (near backpackers area) The most famous bus service is orange in color. Called Phuong Trang or sth...

Take bus better, its only 5 hours or so. Trains are not so safe.

Buses are not so safe. Google: nightmare bus in Vietnam

Trains are quite safe.
However it does not go directly to Mui Ne, you will have to take a taxi from the Binh Thuan station near Phan Thiet (downtown) to Mui Ne, quite far actually, about another 1 hour from the railway station.

No way to check live rates. They don't do live rates anyway. Look at your cc bill.

they do publish their official daily rates though.

you don't have to worry if mastercard converts to usd or not, but mastercard actually publishes the final effective rates from vnd to sgd at their websites, so you should use that rate as your basis of comparison.
