I got that picture from the internet because I was lazy, but it looks the same. The full model is Huawei OptiXstar HN8010Ts-20.

This is a picture of the ONT I took just now:

Bonus unboxing image of the SPF+ module that somebody requested:

Is this given if not using their Huawei OptiXstar S800E XGS-PON SFP+? Or if buy Huawei OptiXstar S800E XGS-PON SFP+ they won't be give this ?

As far as I understand you will always get the ONT, even if you order the SFP+ module. I signed up for the no router package and bought the SFP module seperately in their e-store.

If you want to switch between ONT and SFP ONU module but have to inform them, and they can do it for you, otherwise the ONT would likely be act as a cold spare.

VQ had an urgent maintenance this afternoon. After the network was down for a few hours, the GE ports on the ONR couldn't connect anywhere, although the 10Gbps port worked. The 10Gbps subnet seemed to change from 192.168.1 to 192.168.4, while the GE ports remained at 192.168.1. Now my NAS and ATV (connected via GE ports) don't have internet access, and I can't reach the NAS from my laptop or phones using eero's 10Gbps connection... Restarting both ONR and eero didn't help.

Any ideas?

You may have to contact VQ for help to push the right ONR profile to your ONR in router mode.

I tend to think this is the price to pay since you specificly requested VQ to configure the ONR in router mode. When they upgrade the ONR they may mess the router mode. But I could be wrong. Just my guess.

The default supported mode of the FibreHome ONR is to be configured in bridged ONR mode (basically same as an ONT). And the new smaller Huawei ONT for VQ has only has one 10G LAN port (no 1G ports at all).

Last time Singtel also sometimes messed up the non-default bridged Singtel ONR sometimes (the default is router mode but Singtel allowed user to configure it in bridged mode for 1Gbps users, until March 2022).

They mentioned a network upgrade, not an ONR upgrade. I don't know why the ONR had configure changed... The worst part is they can't provide support now and have escalated it to L2 support, promising to call me back in 24 hours.

Again, just my guess, the network upgrade may include OLT upgrade and ONR upgrade.

But anyway, hopefully they can fix your issue soon.

It's just been fixed. The configuration was reset to bridge mode, but he didn't explain why VQ needed to reset my modem.

That is exactly what I was guessing then, same as last time Singtel messed up the bridged ONR.

They just followed their SOP and thought everyone was using the bridged mode (aka ONT mode) and not router mode. It is actually common for ISPs to push FW updates to the ONR and then need to reset the ONR.

As I mentioned, this is the price to pay now that you are different from others. This thing may well happen again in the future...

Old history.

Nothing wrong with your choice as it is more suitable for your use case. It is just that you may face occassional issue like this (VQ changes your ONR profile accidentally).

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...adband-official-thread-part-6.6473287/page-77
I called support twice. The woman didn't understand my issue, and the man said that in Router Mode, only 4 GE ports are usable, the 10Gbps port won't work. To achieve 3/5/10 Gbps speeds, it must be in Bridge Mode.

Can someone confirm this? I doubt his answer too...

Basically VQ does not support the router configuration based on what you say.

I tend to think you are on your own as most of the VQ 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps users are power users and power users usually do not like ONR...

I finally received the email response, and it differs from what I was told over the phone. My suspicion was right.

Q: If I request the ONT to be set up as an ONR, can I still achieve maximum speeds of 3/5/10 Gbps by connecting the Eero Max 7 (as an AP) to the 10Gbps port, while other devices like NAS or ATV gets a maximum of 1Gbps by connecting to the other 4 GE ports?

A: We understand that you would like to check if you set the ONT as a ONR are you able to still get the maximum wifi speed of 3/5/10.
To address your question, if you set up the ONT as an ONR, you can still achieve the maximum speeds of 3/5/10 Gbps that you've subscribed to. The Eero Max 7 router, when connected to the 10Gbps port, will be able to provide these speeds. However, please note that the total bandwidth will be shared among all connected devices.

Devices connected to the other 4 GE ports will be limited to a maximum of 1 Gbps due to the port limitations, but they will still be able to utilize the available bandwidth from the total subscribed speed.

Need advise on what's next.
Signed VQ's 10Gbps no router plan since my M1 expired. Technician came to do something today though they said 15 Oct. Son later said the technician did something and say his job is done just wait for router delivery.
So what's this "router delivery" since I opted for no router plan? I supposed it's the fiber box like ONT or ONR?

If what they deliver is the ONT or bridge ONR then I should be able to plug'n'play and not pray?
TIA

Your first setup is likely NLT ensuring the fibre is light (especially if it's the first time the port is connected up) and has decent SNR. The delivery by VQ would be for your ONT.

Is it better to recontract with VQ's wifi 6/6e/7 routers, or just renew the base plan and buy the router myself?

I was trying to read through the benefits of 6/6e/7 (currently using 5) but I am still not sure if they will really benefit me.

Interesting thing is how VQ is providing OneVoice with the new Huawei OptiXstar HN8010Ts-20 since it does not have POTS ports, unlike the FibreHome HG5852SA.
https://viewqwest.com/sg/residential/onevoice/

Maybe those who want OneVoice will have to get the FibreHome HG5852SA.

That being said, the feedbacks for OneVoice seems to be bad based on previous reports.

yes you are right. I upg to 10 GBPS and VQ engineer just came and deliver new HG5852SA and default set to Bridge mode.

1) If your WiFi 5 routers are still supported (eg: still have security updates) and you are fine with the wireless coverage and performance.

Take note many of the consumer WiFi 5 routers have been EOLed. For example, Asus has basically EOLed all the WiFi 5 consumer routers, inlcuding the famous RT-AC86U.

2) If budget allows, it is usually better to get your own wireless router/mesh solution. But for 10G capable wireless router, they are pretty expensive so the cheapest way is probably to get eero Max 7 from VQ.

On the other hand, if budget allows, then you may still want to go with more expensive but better wireless router or mesh solution.

3) That being said, power users may go with 10G capable wired router plus 2.5G capable only AP, for example, Ubiquiti UDM SE and U7 Pro AP.

4) And some users will just use the 10Gbps plan as 2.5Gbps plan since they have good 2.5Gbps capable router (eg: Asus ROG GT-AX6000) and then they will upgrade later.

5) So no one answer will fit all situations. It all depends on your use cases, expectations and budget.

..Or if you are cheap like me, built your own pfsense router with a dual 10g port network card. and with pre loved enterprise level access points (eg Ruckus) and have yourself a stable wired and wireless network.

Check out carousell for these ready made for 10G pfsense routers

I’ve just subscribed to static IP..

Do I need to make any router setting changes on my Asus XT8?

if I want to add static Ip address

they require

1) subnet mask
2) default gateway

DNS1
DNS2

what to key in for these ?
