Understandable for Gomo as it's a sub-brand of Singtel, but was thinking mvno will be using their own carrier name. Circles, MR, Cmlink uses their own carrier name from what I know.

It really depends.

MyRepublic SIM on Poco shows M1, but Circles shows Circles.
But on iPhone, it shows MyRepublic and Circles respectively.

I suppose this is the same situation here, as I vaguely remember seeing VIVIFI as carrier in the iPhone. (P.S. It has been years since I use VIVIFI, so I can't cfm whether things changed.)

You need data access for anything like buying roam package .. Can't decide? My advise to buy first or get the local sim ..

There are wifi everywhere for you to activate. At least at most airports

activate at your hotel using their wifi?

hotspot a friend wifi to access.

nothing else you can do if you have no data roaming. Except to find a wifi network via hotel or hotspot

Get a local prepaid sim if you are unable to find wifi hotspot
