That one is the old school news where 3 telcos try to play punk. Now every telco give you 50gb for $20. Later will be blood bath. If they don’t offer competitive price, then I stay 4g and don’t move to 5g. Lol! I don’t do augmented/ virtual reality/ metaverse. You need so fast?
The word you are looking for is oligopoly.

Where every player in the industry artificially controls conditions by some form of informal control, such that all their offerings are generally similar. Can understand why IMDA 1) allowed TPG to come in despite their protests, and 2) opened up to MVNOs to manipulate and allow market forces to drive prices downwards.
That said, the 3 main telcos are not naive to conditions. They realise they have a competitive advantage in 5G SA, which they do not have to give to MVNO partners if they choose not to. It's another round of negotiations across the board for now. It's important to note that capex (ie,
capital
expenditure, or the upfront cost for equipment and other related installations) must be recouped as soon as possible before they can talk about lowering prices. At its core, they are businesses for-profit, not subsidised service providers. It doesn't help that they have stakeholders and shareholders to account themselves to.
Deloitte summarises it quite nicely when it observes “telco companies have finally lost the end-user control points they cherished for so long. To remain relevant, telcos have gone back to taking over full control over the network technology where they still have their core competencies." The old monetisation models are no longer relevant - long profit contracts are not sustainable where alternatives allow for network churn at low cost; we consumers also know the costing of a plan, and with the proliferation of cheap phones from China, it makes signing long contracts not financially viable. Where the telcos control the situation is in their infrastructure, and this is where they can monetize while MVNOs and other B2B partners must negotiate contracts anew.
