Where to tailor clothes, continued...

Made a shirt at Lai En but realized the sleeves are too long after I tried at home. Anyone knows if they do more complex realterations like shortening the sleeve length? If so, can it be done on the spot or requires leaving it for a few day?

If you go during off-peak should be fine. It's a relatively simple alteration.

Thanks. Do you know if it’s better to specifically request for them to alter from the cuff or shoulder? Or should I just let them know that I want to shorten the sleeves and let them to do their thing?

I don't think it makes much of a difference if you are just slightly shortening it. From the cuff should be easier in which case.

Sleeve length alterations are pretty standard and usually done from the cuff. If you look at the shirt there is normally interlining at the shoulder seams which makes shirt alterations from the shoulder unnecessarily complex with no real benefit.

Altering sleeve length from the shoulder for jackets on the other hand...

Tailored to fit you doesn't mean it has to be super fitting and tight. None of my tailored pants have ripped. If they do, they were either too tight, or else the wearer was likely doing some gymnastics or something. I think you're thinking too much

This thread is on local tailors, should I start on Vietnam tailors? I am refraining so that I do not hurt the local tailoring scene. I got criticized by Darth previously when I mentioned can get high quality low price tailoring in Vietnam ..in fact, I created a dossier of about 16-17 tailors in Vietnam, whether they do CMT and their prices.

Pham tailor is good, but they do not do CMT. They do international orders and I know someone in this forum who has ordered from them a few suits.

I intend to get a made to measure linen suit soon but have some questions:

It'll be for casual use so will go for unstructured, half lined, patch pockets. But what of the jacket length? Should it be the usual of covering the whole butt? I'll hope to be using the jacket as a standalone for other outfits too

What colour should I go for? I was thinking of blue but I've already got a navy blazer in the wardrobe

I read that linen shrinks, does that mean sizing should go up?

Tan IMO for a first/only linen suit.

Otherwise they are just way too freakin tight and you should reconsider having your pants made like that. I assume you are a grown ass man and not some teenager

I can't say this has ever been a consideration of mine when getting pants tailored.

As mentioned tan is a popular colour for linen but if you want grey if you can find it is a conservative colour, whilst cream is the second most popular. I've not heard of linen shrinking before but the creases will affect jacket, sleeve and trouser length as the day goes by.

My personal opinion is if your clothing restricts your daily movements then it is too tight!

Then they're too tight. Find a tailor you can work and communicate with, then let them do their stuff.

Share please. I tried China, Thailand tailors before but I feel SG’s quality and workmanship still much better
